When we open a new window, no matter whether game or internet, it is very small and even after we maximize it the text is very narrow in the middle. When we open a game the window stays very small and won't allow us to open it larger. Please tell me how to extend windows. The computer is a HP laptop with XP.

I want to know if there is possible to put a specific text over the desktop and when the user change the wallpaper the text continues appearing at the same position (basically I want to do it on Windows XP).People says that an image worth more than thousands of words... I have been having a problem with my windows being cut off and when i try maximizing them it just stays like that. I'll show a few pictures to show what i mean. Look at the attachments. View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason when I click on My Computer, Control Panel, Task Manager for example, they don't open but go straight to my Taskbar. From there I can't maximise/restore these icons from my taskbar. I have searched your site, but can't find an answer that will help me.I am running Windows XP Home Edition with service pack 3 downloaded.As this computer was given to me by a friend I am am not sure if this has been an issue previously. If I click on the flashing My Computer Icon on my taskbar it doesn't open. If I right click and press Restore it still doesn't appear. I have the feeling it is "open" as if I right click again I have the option to minimise or maximise, I just can't see the open window. The only way to open My Computer, for example, is to go to Windows Explorer and access through there. This doesn't appear to be happening with all icons. I can open folders from the taskbar.
Is there a way to change when you double click the title bar of a window to minimize as opposed to the window maximizing?

View 4 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows XP Professional.Windows that used to open to full screen (for example,links to websites,or windows opened by running programs) now are minimized and I have to hit the maximize button every time to re size them a real pain.Ran virus programs,adaware, etc. and can't find anything.Didn't used to be a problem. I read in some thread somewhere that this may have to do with pop up screens resetting something or other but I can't locate that thread. Any clues out there on how to fix this?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI followed the standard procedure to put an active web page on my desktop. i.e Display properties Desktop Customize Desktop Web Browse select web page Open OK Ok Apply Ok. This results in the web page being displayed but of fixed size (about 5cm by 5cm ) . The usual window buttons maximize ,minimize and exit are missing. Thus I am stuck with a small rather inadequate web page. I have run Microsoft anti spyware ,avg antivirus ,cw shredder etc but to no avail.
the computer wasn't working for some reason, so I checked it out, and everything was gone from the screen besides the background. Files and icons and what-have-you, were all gone, with the exception of a small dialogue box in the middle of the screen. All it says is "ok" and there is an "ok" button at the bottom, and the red "x" at the top. I've clicked both buttons several times, but nothing has happened. I'm scared to unplug the computer, or restart it or anything, because I don't know what it will do.

The first issue is that my cursor is stuck in the middle of the screen upon startup. It will not move and I have to shut down, check connections, (keyboard and mouse are wireless, batteries are new) and as it restarts I click the mouse and it moves after I do this several times. I have to put the computer on standby every night or I have to go through the whole thing again. Moreover, windows startup has become horribly slow�and I have �hi-speed� roadrunner I use firefox for my internet connection. I have run defraq, disk cleanup, AVG, maleware, spybot, hijackthis,and Ad-aware. No change....
Thank you for any help. The following is my system info�let me now what other info you may need. BTW V2Premier batch loaded XP on the cpu so I do not have a disk. They are out of business and have sent me in circles trying to get one.

It tells me "Please select the operating system to start. So I choose XP Professional, then instead of coming up in the normal windows screen I have this little start up screen in the middle of the monitor. The color is all jacked up and so is the images.

I thought it was my wireless optical mouse, but after switching back to a regular (cabled) mouse, it did it again. I just unplugged, and replugged the mouse and it began working normally. I cleaned my system previously with Spybot, Adaware, Regscrub XP, and have AVG, Zonealarm and MS Spyware updated. I ran AVG and Stinger and found nothing.

And now my laptop is a paper weight. ymtoms are Comp will boot , show the debug status bar, then flash to the windows xp status bar, a few sec. will pass then it reboots back to SONY, and the cycle goes on and on and on. The CD drive is on the docking station , and it wont work untill windows starts. so now I will have to figure out how to use the Network Boot option.

I followed the Windows instructions "How to recover from a corrupted registry.."
Started the Recovery Console, created a tmp folder, backed up registry files to a new location, deleted exising registry files location, copy the registry files from the repair folder to System32config folder.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy XP desktop locks up/freezes randomly. Everything is still on the screen. Looks normal, fans run in the PC, but is it frozen. I have to shut it off and restart. Then it works fine until it randomly locks up. It sometimes gives the blue screen if im in middle of using it but most times it will just lock up. Other times it will reboot itself. Started happening a few weeks back but seems to have gotten progressively worse. I used to last for a few hours but now it can happen seconds after I log in ...other times it will let me use for 15-20 mins.
