Running Windows XP Professional.Windows that used to open to full screen (for example, links to websites,or windows opened by running programs) now are minimized and I have to hit the maximize button every time to re size them a real pain.Ran virus programs, adaware, etc. and can't find anything.Didn't used to be a problem. I read in some thread somewhere that this may have to do with pop up screens resetting something or other but I can't locate that thread. Any clues out there on how to fix this?
Somehow I've lost the ability to right click on an image file and resize it. I used to be able to right click on a file, go to "send to", "mail recipient" and have a wizard pop up that would allow me to resize images for the email.. but no longer. I don't think I've installed anything lately that would compromise this feature, but who knows
When I click on an icon on the desktop to open a program I am finding that all icons have been selected so I end up getting a message that to open all of the selected programs at once will take a long time & asks if I wish to proceed. If I go to other lists like my documents clicking one selects them all. How do I stop this happening?
I have a Presario C700 model C768TU Notebook PC running Vista Home Premium, with a 1.76GHz CPU and 2 GB RAM. The problem I have is actually driving me nuts.I freshly installed Vista after formatting the drive and when I point to the only desktop icon which is the recycle bin I get this dialog asking if I want to send it to the recycle bin.No matter how many times I click on NO it won't go away and in my frustration I reboot the Laptop. have formatted the laptop several times and installed WIndows 7 and had the same problem. I also formatted and partitioned the drive and still had the same problem.I added a few more icons to the desktop and the same thing would happen if I pointed the mouse at them.
To crete active desktop items that will operate as if they were an IE window, so that when you click a button or link it goes to the page in the desktop item without opening a new window but for the items I create the links always open a new IE window.
When rightclicking any file you´re likely to see an option called "open with", which lists any available program on you computer to open the file with. To simply clear up this list of unwanted items, or to remove useless associations, like opening an mp3 file with a paint program, follow these steps:- Click on the start button, click on Run... and type the word "regedit" (without the quotes) in the box that appears to open the registry editor- Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFileExts"- Find the extention you wish to edit and click on the "+"-sign to locate the key that says "OpenWithList"- In the right pane of the registry editor you´ll see a list with the programs in the list, like "paint.exe" or "notepad.exe"- Simple click on the one you wish to delete and press the delete button on your keyboardDon´t worry if you´ve removed an entry you rather hadn´t removed. When rightclicking a file there will be another option in the "open with" extension where you can choose any program on your computer. Once used, it will reappear in the list of associated programs.
I recently restored my OS (Windows XP, SP2) and now the following happens;I "pin" items to the Start Menu, but when I reboot, they're no longer there (also, those items I removed from the Start Menu reappear) The Start Menu appears "open" everytime I reboot! It's as if I clicked "Start" and the menu gets opened.
I have a Dell PC 8250 and over the past two yrs I have managed somehow to increase my start-up time by inadvertently adding to my start-up file. I understand that there is a way to eliminate items in the start-up file but having been to the site, I cannot determine which items to delete without messing up my system. Please advise, and maybe tell me what the basic start up should look like.
I've recently bought a computer on ebay and the display only covers the center half of the screen. I tried restore back a week and the display is fine but I loose alot of the windows xp programs that were included. how to maximize the display
I have been having a problem for about a year now. I have an nvidea Geforce3 Ti 500(ya not that great). I have been having a problem with my windows being cut off and when i try maximizing them it just stays like that. I'll show a few pictures to show what i mean. Look at the attachments. For some reason when I click on My Computer, Control Panel, Task Manager for example, they don't open but go straight to my Taskbar. From there I can't maximise/restore these icons from my taskbar. I have searched your site, but can't find an answer that will help me.I am running Windows XP Home Edition with service pack 3 downloaded. As this computer was given to me by a friend I am am not sure if this has been an issue previously. If I click on the flashing My Computer Icon on my taskbar it doesn't open. If I right click and press Restore it still doesn't appear. I have the feeling it is "open" as if I right click again I have the option to minimise or maximise, I just can't see the open window. The only way to open My Computer, for example, is to go to Windows Explorer and access through there. This doesn't appear to be happening with all icons. I can open folders from the taskbar.
Is there a way in Windows XP to view the contents of two or more folder contents at the same time? Right now when I click on a Folder 1 to view the files in it, then click ob Folder 2, Folder 1 closes. I can't view the contents of more than one folder at a time without opening up another desktop window in My Computer or Desktop Explorer.
Seems like every time I open some application it puts a link on the start menu, I realize I can delete this by right clicking it and choosing "remove this item from the list". How do I prevent it from being put there in the first place?
One of my computers has an odd problem that developes after a while where Minimizing and Maximizing windows becomes tediously slow, the animation runs realy slow and it flashes in different sizes.
When we open a new window, no matter whether game or internet, it is very small and even after we maximize it the text is very narrow in the middle. When we open a game the window stays very small and won't allow us to open it larger. Please tell me how to extend windows. The computer is a HP laptop with XP.

I want open IE and see the page displayed in the "Full Screen" mode. No matter how I close IE (6.0 SP2) when I re-open it comes up in what I assume is the default "small cluttered screen" mode. I know how to get my display into "Full Screen" using the View menu drop down or by clicking on the Full Screen icon and by using the F11 key. What I need to know is how to get it to open as a "Full Screen" every time I open IE? Is there a setting I can change so I do not have to manually change into "Full Screen" each time I use IE?
I deleted a few items from Start Menu>Programs that I would like to restore. These items are (1) set program access and defaults (2) windows catalog and (3) windows update. I don't know where the .exe files are for me to copy back into the start menu folder or if there is a easier way to restore them.
When I hover over a button on the taskbar the window is supposed to restore. Well it's not happening. Is this a setting I can change or is it messed up somehow Win XP Pro SP2

Sometimes they open fast but most of the times I have this long delay. Also printing files is a another task that takes a long time. It seems that the printer isn't recoginzed for at least 15 seconds. I am running on a local network using a Linksys router and also am sharing the printer through a computer on the network with a computer that is running Windows 98SE.

This is a nuisance which is really bothering me, about half the time i open a normal folder, the comp freezes, and i have to control alt delete and end task a couple times to make it go away. Does anyone have advice?
Does anyone know how to add items to the section of the start menu with all the "MY" folders? I want to add my games and toolbox. I don't want them 'pinned to the start menu' because they will open in a window and I want them in a list, like in the advanced start menu controls. I read somewhere how to do this, but I don't remember where.
