View 5 Replies View RelatedI try to open any folder from the desktop, or explorer(right click start button), or my documents, they don't open, but program shortcuts seem to work. Once inside a program I can navigate to and open folders I couldn't do previousy on desktop. It seems just an error when on the desktop itself.
My wallpaper vanishes and the active desktop recovery screen appears telling me to restore the desktop after somekind of windows error.
When using system restore to back up your data, you might want to make sure that you are not wasting backup space by saving useless folders that may include temp file or other non-necessary files. To exclude folders, follow the directions below.
1) Open Regedit and navigate to HKEY_Local_MachineSystemCurrentControlSetControlBackupRestoreFilesNotTobackup2) Choose Edit, new, multi-string value3) Give a descriptive name4) Double-click the value and input the full folder path you wish to exclude and click OKSystem restore will no longer monitor this folder and backups will not be made of the files contained in it.
I have had this problem for a couple of years now, even in a few different computers. I have a folder with files I am keeping, copying it from computer to computer when I change computers. In this folder I am unable to see folder/file names unless I mark them. This has irritated me to some extent since there are around 12-13000 files in this folder by now. I have asked around at computer-tech stores, and some of my more or less nerdy friends. One of wich is mostly always able to help me but not with this.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm searching for a good solution of archiving scanned documents. The problem: Recently we bought a new copy-machine from toshiba. It includes the feature of scanning a bunch of documents on its own harddisk. To keep up a structure (Law-firm) we give the files structured names: {casenumber}{client}{typeofdoc}{dateofdoc}.pdf
So, by now we created a structured list of files in the scan-folder of the machine. The next step is to move the files into subfolders on a different pc. These subfolders have 6 digits, simply the case numbers. It should be very easy for a program to move these files paying attention to the case number and sorting them into the right case folders..................
I was wondering if you gurus can give me some direction.I run a Specials Menu on a large LCD TV at a restaurant using powerpoint. There are two specials files (lunch.pps and dinner.pps)When this system reboots, i want a batch file to determine which powerpoint file to open based on what time it is.ON BOOTUP: For instance, if it's anywhere between 11am and 3pm, open the lunch file. If its any other time, run the dinner.pps file. Make sense?
Im already running a scheduled tasks application that shuts down one and starts up the other based on what time. This works very well. Problem is, i frequently Remote Desktop into this machine and make changes. Once those changes are made, i have to reboot the system. I then want this batch file to start the appropriate presentation since the scheduled task application only works when it sees 11am or 3pm (as in the example above)I figured since you can determine time and date within a batch file, can't you do an if /then/else type script within a batch? (if its *this time* then load THIS application)
Recently my father downloaded a Windows update thing that included the newest version of Windows Media Player, and since then I have had trouble getting my preferred media player to work with files. I can still open up it up and select a file, but it is impossible to add it to the "Open with" list, which is annoying. No error messages pop up or anything, but when I go to Browse in the "Open with" window and select the program, it just reverts to the (unchanged) "Open with" window.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy company makes products that deploy on XP, like Kiosks. I need to be able to lock down my "application user" rights nice & tight, but leave my admin rights wide open. I find that GPEDIT effects ALL user rights, so when I want to prevent my app user from being able to right-click on the desktop (for example), if I got to GPEDIT > USER CONFIG > ADMIN TEMPLATES , anything I do there dorks up my admin user as well. These machines will not connect to a domain controller so they have to be locally administered.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI seem to get an error message C:Windowsdsr.dll when windows is running and I attempt to change or login with a specific desktop user profile. Does anyone have any thoughts? I also noticed that the virus software, althought up-to-date with subscription and definitions, was disabled. This is an additional backup work station at the office of my employment and is used by many different people. One of those individuals must have disabled Norton about 45 days ago.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI went into Folder Options > File Types > Found the folder one, went on its properties and changed the icon, clicked ok, blah blah. However, now whenever I open a folder, it instead opens the default "Search" thing.
So I went into Folder Options > File Types > Found the folder one, went on its properties and added a new thing called "open", to open with "explorer.exe".
Now the folder opens, however when I double click a folder within that, rather than it opening in the same window, it opens in a new window!!
And no, this is not the setting in Folder Options that selects between the two. It is alerady set to open in same window. I've gone through all the other settings in Folder Options.
2 days ago, I used add/remove programs then Norton Removal Tool to remove Norton AV, and replaced it with AVG Free. My PC seemed to work fine until yesterday: upon booting, AVG automatically tried to update and ended up reporting "something bad happened..."; Not sure if AVG issue is relevant but now I CANNOT OPEN FOLDERS or APPS!
Now about 9 times out of 10, when I try to open a file or app, the screen icons and background pic disappear momentarily, and nothing opens. If I manage to open a folder, it seems my PC hangs up similarly at the following task (sometimes I get my RCA Lyra icon suddenly showing up in the toolbar). BTW I experienced the exact same problem a couple of times before the AVG install but rebooting would always fix the issue. Not anymore! It took many reboots but I was able to get AdAware to run - found nothing - and Maintenance Mechanic 6 - showed PC Repair is needed but hangs once it gets to reading the disk index. I tried deleting Lyra, but it won't let me (hangs once I manage to open the add/remove program page).
i installed a software oc'lock security.i was locking a folder with this software.during the process an error occurred.and then i was unable to open the folder.i uninstalled and reinstalled the software.but still the problem exists.plz some body help me. i had really important documents in it.

I tried deleting those, but then nothing happens if I try to open multiple files or folders. I don't know when this happened, because I rarely open more than one file/folder simultaneosly.
View 8 Replies View Relatedwhen I would open up folders and Windows Explorer would have an error message and then it would refresh my computer and close all Windows Explorer Window(s). Ive researched quite a bit in my spare time in the past two days and found that it could be related to ntdll.dll. But in my research I haven't really found any solutions, yet it almost seems like a common/uncommon problem.
I have done a few system restores all of which were unable to return to a previous state. I am up to date on the latest virus/spyware/adware definitions and ran scans using: Norton Internet Security 2007, Spy Sweeper, AdAware, Spybot Search & Destroy and Stinger......

View 12 Replies View RelatedI tried the tip launch folders as separate process. I uninstall IE7 but the problem's still there. Windows seems to reset, but I can carry on working. The toolbar at the bottom disappears for a few moments and the icons reload, minus any open folders. It may have happened a couple of times without open folders, I'm not sure. Sometimes it hangs completely and I have to reboot.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI love the Windows Explorer Document Tree View and I am so lazy that it bothers me to switch to the view each time I open a new window. Is there a way to set the default view to open folders with the document tree showing?I have tried switching it to the classic view, but that doesn't have the versatility of the full document tree. And, as another article has suggested, I added /e to my My Documents shortcut target, but that didn't help either.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm set up to run folder windows in a separate instance of Explorer for better stability. But When I close all the windows for the second instance of Explorer, the process frequently does not terminate. So then when I try to open another folder window, nothing happens. I have to quit Explorer manually to get it working again. This has happened several times now, and I'm getting tired of it. I'm running XP MCE 2002 Edition, all the latest updates.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi was wondering if anyone can give me a hand with what i think is a virus.everytime i go to open a folder (my computer, my documents, c drive etc.) my curser goes to the waiting stage for about a second, then nothing comes up. i push trl+alt+delete, to bring up task manager, and when i try to open the folders, it tells me, in processes, that a program called "drwtsn32.exe" is running, and i think that is what is not letting me open my folders. could anyone tell me how to get rid of it, so i can get rid of ANOTHER virus.
