Cannot Open Any Folders - Waiting Curser And Hang Up

Feb 15, 2005

i was wondering if anyone can give me a hand with what i think is a virus.everytime i go to open a folder (my computer, my documents, c drive etc.) my curser goes to the waiting stage for about a second, then nothing comes up. i push trl+alt+delete, to bring up task manager, and when i try to open the folders, it tells me, in processes, that a program called "drwtsn32.exe" is running, and i think that is what is not letting me open my folders. could anyone tell me how to get rid of it, so i can get rid of ANOTHER virus.

Floating Mouse Curser

Jul 28, 2007

For the last week and a half my mouse arrow tends to float all over my screen. ( only on the internet - not in loaded programs )While it floats I can't do anything. Not ALL the time but certainly enough to be very annoying. Then it will stop and all is well. Later it will start to float around again. When it floats I cannot stop it. I must wait for it to stop on it's own. The mouse is a Logitech wireless.I cleaned the mouse and changed the batteries. Then I tried a logitech WIRED mouse. Same problem.I tried the Logitech website without any success.I tried lowreing the Hardware Acceleration.

Dell Laptop Won't Boot - Curser Only

Oct 18, 2009

I'm using a Dell 9300 Inspiron laptop that was working just fine yesterday. I shut it down and now it won't boot into Windows XP Pro SP3, it goes past the Dell screen then goes all black except for a curser on the top left of screen. It will not boot into Safe Mode (F8). I can boot into the BIOS (F2) but see no discrepancies and can change the boot from the HD to the CD drive. What I've done so far:

1. Inserted the Dell Utilities CD and run full diagnostics-no problems found.
2. Inserted the OS disc and ran XP repair, it finished with no problems shown and then reverted to the black screen with the curser.

I have access to a SATA dock and could check it there but there must be something else, especially since I can't even get into Safe Mode.

Always Back To Xp Blinking Curser Top Left No Boot

Feb 11, 2008

I have a Dell laptop Inspiron 8500 that I used extensively for work. 2ghz cpu P4m, 2gig ram, 160gig hitachi HD.A couple of times in the past few months it has occasionally came up with only a flashing cursor in the top left. Now it does it once a week at least( update: even more frequent ). I've cannot boot into safe mode. The bios settings seem ok. I can only boot when it's like this from a bootable ISO CD.( ie Acronis rescue disk or XP setup ). To workaround so far, when this happens: I remove the laptop drive then use another computer to read the drive using a usb to mini IDE adapter to read off my recent work, I then re-insert and run the Hitachi factory tests for this drive via bootable ISO: It always passes fine. The drive reads fine too via the usb or in the laptop using a boot disk. Then I use "Acronis True Image home" to restore the drive back to the last backup( which I do 2 times weekly now because of this ) It takes 3hours to restore the image, and then I copy back my recent work , and all works fine for about a week( or now hours ).

I bought "ASO advanced Sytem Optimizer" and cleaned up the registry, and defragged the drive using "AShampoo Magic Defreg". I was excited because I thought it was a registry problem or fragmentation issue. It worked fine all week and seems faster even. I was happy.Today it did the same no-boot thing when I when to to boot up. Blank screen with flashing cursor in the top left.It really seems like something is killing or malwaring either the registry, mbr, or bootloader on powerdown. ( I have bitdefender 10 running when it's running.)I'm running the Dell diags disk and it all passes. I can boot and restore the partition using Acronis . I'm at a loss... Thanks for any help. I enabled shutdown event logging and no errors show in the system logs, but the applicationo event log shows userinit.exe could not run a script event ID 1000 at the timestamp that I did the shutdown.

We have a 2 computers home network connected to the internet thru a rooter. Both have Windows XP. The problem is that after booting we can see the desktop, but the explorer is stuck (waiting icon). The only remedy was to End Explorer from Task Schedule and start it again thru Run.

Other issue is that DirectX based programs/audio effects/plugins give the standard windows error, uploaded here (jpg screen+microsoft error raport) in pdf

Folders Always Open In New Windows

Dec 10, 2005

I went into Folder Options > File Types > Found the folder one, went on its properties and changed the icon, clicked ok, blah blah. However, now whenever I open a folder, it instead opens the default "Search" thing.

So I went into Folder Options > File Types > Found the folder one, went on its properties and added a new thing called "open", to open with "explorer.exe".

Now the folder opens, however when I double click a folder within that, rather than it opening in the same window, it opens in a new window!!

And no, this is not the setting in Folder Options that selects between the two. It is alerady set to open in same window. I've gone through all the other settings in Folder Options.

Cant Open Folders Or Run Applications - AVG?

Jan 3, 2008

2 days ago, I used add/remove programs then Norton Removal Tool to remove Norton AV, and replaced it with AVG Free. My PC seemed to work fine until yesterday: upon booting, AVG automatically tried to update and ended up reporting "something bad happened..."; Not sure if AVG issue is relevant but now I CANNOT OPEN FOLDERS or APPS!

Now about 9 times out of 10, when I try to open a file or app, the screen icons and background pic disappear momentarily, and nothing opens. If I manage to open a folder, it seems my PC hangs up similarly at the following task (sometimes I get my RCA Lyra icon suddenly showing up in the toolbar). BTW I experienced the exact same problem a couple of times before the AVG install but rebooting would always fix the issue. Not anymore! It took many reboots but I was able to get AdAware to run - found nothing - and Maintenance Mechanic 6 - showed PC Repair is needed but hangs once it gets to reading the disk index. I tried deleting Lyra, but it won't let me (hangs once I manage to open the add/remove program page).

SOMEONE HELP, Waiting For Hours With No Reply. Slow Window Opening.

Feb 17, 2008

I have a recent problem where my computer will spend anywhere from 5-10 seconds switching to a different window. It doesn't matter whether it is loaded or not. For instance, I'll have 2 MSN conversations open where I can see both at the same time, and no matter what I'm doing, it will take the same amount of time just to switch over to say "lol".

This is very annoying, because if an error comes up (in any program) that requires opening a new window, it will take 10 seconds to load, and then 10 seconds to respond to me clicking "ok". I am wasting so much time waiting, and it is becoming one of the most aggravating issues I've ever had.

This also applies to clicking on anything on the start bar at any time, minimizing, maximizing, or changing size to any window ever. It doesn't effect anything that happens within any programs itself that aren't window related.

I'm using XP and have 2 gb of RAM.

Explorer Crashes - Open Up Folders

May 19, 2007

when I would open up folders and Windows Explorer would have an error message and then it would refresh my computer and close all Windows Explorer Window(s). Ive researched quite a bit in my spare time in the past two days and found that it could be related to ntdll.dll. But in my research I haven't really found any solutions, yet it almost seems like a common/uncommon problem.

I have done a few system restores all of which were unable to return to a previous state. I am up to date on the latest virus/spyware/adware definitions and ran scans using: Norton Internet Security 2007, Spy Sweeper, AdAware, Spybot Search & Destroy and Stinger......

Folders Open Command Window Not Apps

I managed to change them to an explorer window instead, but in file type, I can figure out how to get "open" back as the default when I click on these folders. The right click menu either has expand greyed out, or doesn't have it at all. Open is the third item, and find first (now) with command window second. How do I reset these? And, any idea what would have messed them up? I did start sharing with my son's computer and I downloaded firefox 1.0.3.
