i have noticed when you Ctrl-Alt-Del my cpu usage goes from 10% to 90% every 30 secs or so and will not stop a steady line up and down no matter what i am doing i could even be setting idle and still persist
FIRST OF ALL "I AM THE ONLY USER OF THIS COMPUTER" DON'T NEED PASSWORDS ETC. Before I had this computer cleaned out - I was able to boot on and be directly on my desktop Now I GET WINDOWS WELCOME SCREEN ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN AND MY USER NAME "OWNER" ON THE RIGHT SIDE - I THEN HAVE TO CLICK ON THE "OWNER" AND WAIT UNTIL THE SYSTEM LOADS "MY PERSONAL SETTINGS:
We have a 2 computers home network connected to the internet thru a rooter. Both have Windows XP. The problem is that after booting we can see the desktop, but the explorer is stuck (waiting icon). The only remedy was to End Explorer from Task Schedule and start it again thru Run.
Other issue is that DirectX based programs/audio effects/plugins give the standard windows error, uploaded here (jpg screen+microsoft error raport) in pdf http://www.sendspace.com/file/eihkt
i was wondering if anyone can give me a hand with what i think is a virus.everytime i go to open a folder (my computer, my documents, c drive etc.) my curser goes to the waiting stage for about a second, then nothing comes up. i push trl+alt+delete, to bring up task manager, and when i try to open the folders, it tells me, in processes, that a program called "drwtsn32.exe" is running, and i think that is what is not letting me open my folders. could anyone tell me how to get rid of it, so i can get rid of ANOTHER virus.
the laptop jioned company Domain. recently if the comptuer connected with non-company network environment e.g publick internet connection (both cable or wireless) after input the domain user name and password i will get a blank screen.but if i un-plug network cable or disable the wirless card i can see the desktop icons immediately. i suspect my pc is waiting DC's responding
I have a recent problem where my computer will spend anywhere from 5-10 seconds switching to a different window. It doesn't matter whether it is loaded or not. For instance, I'll have 2 MSN conversations open where I can see both at the same time, and no matter what I'm doing, it will take the same amount of time just to switch over to say "lol".
This is very annoying, because if an error comes up (in any program) that requires opening a new window, it will take 10 seconds to load, and then 10 seconds to respond to me clicking "ok". I am wasting so much time waiting, and it is becoming one of the most aggravating issues I've ever had.
This also applies to clicking on anything on the start bar at any time, minimizing, maximizing, or changing size to any window ever. It doesn't effect anything that happens within any programs itself that aren't window related.
I'm using XP and have 2 gb of RAM.

I am running XP Pro with IE8, there is a problem when I attempt to copy and paste, I can put the pointer on where I want to start highlighting and it will not follow the movement of the mouse when attempting to highlight. You can put the pointer on a sentence and hold the mouse while sliding and it will not highlight, or it may start highlighting somewhere in the middle or maybe not at all. I have tried from bottom up and top down, it makes no difference, this is driving me crazy because I use the copy and paste feature quite often. I've never had this happen before, something appears to be conflicting; but I've been running the same programs for a long period of time and never seen this before.
I am getting random crashes, lock-ups, reboots, you name it. I have had to type this message on wordpad rather than in IE because it will freeze up within seconds. (This site is worse than others for some reason). I recently done a fresh install on my machine so there is very little on it. I have a 160gb sata drive and on 100gb of it I have windows xp sp2 installed and the remaining I have xp sp1 installed so I can switch between the two.
i've recently connected to the internet via broadband, so purchased Norton Internet Security 2008. When trying to install that I was informed I needed to update Windows to XP Service pack 2. (the pc is at least 5 years old, purchased by my wife before we married). I tried this, but eventually a message came up - "Did not install - system unstable". So I did what it said and Uninstalled. But now I'd be very grateful for any advice, ie what does this mean, how can I get the system to be "stable" and thefore install SP2 and therefore Norton Security. In the meantime I'm worried about going on line ( I am sending this from a library) due to being exposed to viruses, spyware etc. A message has already come up about having spyware (but I think this was removed after downloading anti-spyware from yahoo).
Recently my OS XP Pro has been acting a little strange, when I start it up a installer has been popping up trying to install a fax, which I do cancel before it can install. Also I tried using System Restore and the restore process starts and gets about 1/3 of the way on the progress bar and restarts my PC and says “your system can not be restored”. I have went to Microsoft knowledge base of known problems w/SR and have tried all the different scenarios and get the same result each time. I have a feeling that I have been hijacked. I am including scans from MalewareBytes and Hijack This.
(1) my desktop configuration is ASUS motherboard P5KPL AM/PS, with pentium (R) dual core CPU 2.7 GHz, 320 GB hard disk, 1 GB DDR2 RAM and NVIDIA getForce 8400 GS. My question is when i tried putting a single 2 GB RAM, it was showing error and the system became unstable. What could be the reason?
Hello there after lots of previous problem with my pc. I have formated my PC and though running ok whenever i access Security Centre or the Control Panel neither will respond. Please help. H Here is the Hijack this log file....

My friend, who has given a Dell Optiplex GX240 running Win2K Pro. 512MB RAM To help her out, I got rid of porn, viruses, and spyware using: Ad-Aware, AVG spyware and AV free versions, Trend Micro House Call, Spybot I checked the task manager, and has constant 100% CPU usage, avg memory usage The system runs, but apps open slow, so I tried some freeware reg cleaners: CCleaner, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, Wise Registry cleaner.
I recently installed a winTV card in my computer, ever since that I have noticed that when I press ctrl, alt and delete, the cpu usage appears to be 100% full whenever I try to open an mpeg file I have recorded from the TV card. it is a pentium 4 2.8 ghz processor.
Frequently am working and then get the "blue screen" filled with "if this is the first time you've gotten this screen. maybe virus, I don't think I have virus issues since I just repartitioned my whole HD and just loaded up a new copy of Windows XPSP2. Still I get this screen frequently. I also get iE6 wanting to shut down periodically (it says it's sorry........) and that is real frustrating.......plus it struggles with add-ons....maybe I should reinstall IE6.All this coupled with my inability to take up my NAV2004 program makes for a fun day. Compag not that old and as I say new XP.
I have received this message from PC-Cillin "detected unstable behavior in the network, hardware, operating system, or another app. and automatically reverted to it's last know configuration ". I have also received a low memory message. This is a brand new system I built with a good MSI board , i gig of Kingston mem. After the PC-Cillin message and reboot It is running stable. When it wasn't you could not do any thing especially online with numerous pages open up. Very strange behavior. I am running Sunbelts Counterspy which is a very good anti spyware program and running the XP Firewall. This seems to be a program draining the PC and not spyware because very little surfing was done. I will uninstall Counterspy to see if there is a memory leak.
I've had this ax8 board for some time. Previously, I'd been using an av8. Here's a run down of what I've experienced. With all the default devices enabled in bios, random irq/driver irq not less than or equal BSOD's. Disabled on board FDC, still bsods. Disabled onboard LAN, still bsods. Disabled IDE controllers, still BSOD's. I've tried a pcie and pci card, still bsods. Tried SATA 3&4, still BSODs. I replaced my USB keyboard/mouse with an old ps/2 keyboard and mouse, unplugged my usb headset, and it hasn't crashed since.
os keeps getting error messages such as system is unstable and it is crashing on a regular basis when he goes on the internet. he doesnt update his windows on a regular basis and he does not have very good antivirus protection, so i have unplugged his modem for the time being to stop him getting into more trouble. he has reformatted his drive twice in the last 2 weeks so i want to install avg antivirus, spywareblaster, spybot, and the latest version of ad-aware(as he only has an older version) before he plugs his modem back in, then update every thing, and run scans using the programs listed above. am i doing the right thing? and how do i go about wiping his hard drive so i can re-install his windows.
I'm running XP pro SP2. I have a gig of ram and my mother board is an Intel D101GGC. My CPU is Intel Pentium D 920.
If I use Windows Explorer to go deeper than the first level of any tree, CPU usage goes to 100% and stays there. I've disabled System Restore because it wouldn't let me go back in time anyway and this program is a known resource gobbler. Didn't help. I've attached a hijackthis logfile to see if anyone recognizes a Trojan, etc. I would appreciate any help at all.
Am having a problem with Display Properties in WinXP-2. During the first 5 minutes after boot-up, screen resolution on my desk top is unstable with icon and window sizes changing from large to small and vice-versa. Resetting the Display Properties during this time has no effect. When the system warms up the problem is gone. Can the Monitor itself be the problem, or is it most likely the Video Card? I don't have another monitor to use as a test unit.
My CPU Usage always shows 100% and my system is getting very slow although I have not installed any big software and have strong antivirus (symantec) whose definition files are updated .So , why is it happening?
I was checking my daughters pc for some usual maintenance. The start programs on list suddenly dont open, computer freezes up, did the error-checking but I cannot seem to get some vital prgrams to open up. I am running a couple of recent worm tools from Symantec and so far, nothing. Could this be a hardware problem or can someone tell me something I am missing?
I just formated my pc and installed windows xp pro and sp2 and the cpu usage was always under 20% now its always over 50%-60% with i installed the programs i needed. before I formated it was the same with high cpu usage but i installed sp2 and the cpu usage went under 10% but few weeks later it went back up, so i formated.
CPU usage is constantly at 100%. It started acting up a couple of months ago and I uninstalled all the software that I had recently downloaded (games etc) but still have this problem. I think this is also the reason everything just freezes suddenly for a good 2-3 minutes causing me to bang my head against the nearest hard object.Regarding this, in Task Manager --> Processes --> sort by CPU: CMD.exe is constantly using 65-85(keeps on changing) followed by csrss.exe at around 20-30
Out of nowhere a couple days ago my computer began lagging badly. The cpu usage is stuck at 100%, which the system process dominating the usage fluctuating between 70-95%. Now the computer will work decently for about 30 seconds at a time, then it will freeze for 45 seconds to a minute, over and over again, which is highly annoying. I downloaded ad-aware and it showed nothihng, and I am in the midle of a virus scan. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I dont know why this came out of nowhere. ADD ON: When running mcaffee virus scan, it s process jumps to the top fluctuating between 70 and 95. System tops off at like 20, but if I pause the scan it goes back to what it was doing before. WINXP SP2
limit my RAM usage in XP just like in 98/ME have? or any soft I can use to do this tweak My system becomes unstable when using large memory (tested it with memory diagnostic tools and found out that there are random data loss when accessing large part of the memory
xp sp2 I have a 3.2ghz processor 256mb graphics card nvidia 6200 and 1024 ram memeory the problem occured when i tried to open an avi movie file, i was moving the avi film from my downloads to shared folder but when i looked in shared folder it wasn't there so iwent back my downloads folder. when i tried to open or delete it a pop-up appearred saying the file was in use by another program, after a while i was able to delete it by dragging it to recycle bin. but 3 days on when i open a folder or firefox or an application the cpu usage goes from 7% to 100% and pf usage 550mb.
I recently kept getting a blue screen everytime I tried to restart my computer. This happened with my old computer and I ended up having to get a new Hard Drive. Well I was able to fix this problem by booting in safe mode and system restoring to an earlier date. Well now my CPU Usage is always running high, over 30% almost aways, dipping all the way up to 100% sometimes. This is when I have nothing system heavy running, I have Dual 3.2Ghz EE processors and 2GB of Ram.Well I was getting a similar problem last month, it was because of the trojan vundo. I got vundo off a couple weeks ago and no more CPU Usage problems. Well I didn't go THAT far back in system restore. So I did an updated Norton Scan, and updated Adaware scan and an updated spybot scan, still gettin the problem. It's doin enough that I cant watch videos with th epicture being jerky and sometimes it freezes my IE for 15 or so seconds.
I notice sometimes that my computer usage will jump to a very high percent. Most of the time between 60-100%. I get this when Im not doing anything, if theres nothing running (That I know of). Sometimes if I have more then 1 IE or FireFox box open. It will jump to 80%. Can someone help me find out whats going on? Rob
I'm hoping I can resolve an issue here. First let me start out by apologizing for this long post, but i'm trying to get as much info out as I can.Recently i've been having big problems with my computer running VERY slow, my computer takes 5 minutes to boot up when normally it would only take 1, my mouse moves very laggy, and I can't start up any programs without having to wait minutes just for it to start. When I look at the performance monitor, my CPU usage is anywhere from 50%-100%...and i'm not even running anything! First let me get somet things out of the way. First off I have a laptop with AMD Athalog 64 2.5 ghz processor, 1.0gig of ram, and a ATI X600 mobility video card. I've had my computer for a little over a month so it's not outdated or anything, and all of my drivers are up to date.
I did a viruscan on my computer which took very long b/c my CPU usage was very high, and nothing negative came back when I did so. I ran adaware and removed all of the adware I had.still didn't fix the problem. After trying both of those things I decided i'd try to restore my computer to an earlier point. it was successful. That was a couple days ago when I was having this same problem. Well here we are present date, and i'm having the same problem again. I tried restoring my computer to an earlier point again, but this time it resulted with some troublesome problems, apparently an important ATI file was deleted or something (not sure exactly) and I couldn't boot my computer up in normal mode, I had to go back into safe mode and rollback the drivers for my computer to even boot up. That was approximately 30 minutes ago, and here i am now. Obviously restoring didn't help this time because my computer is very slow at the moment.
I don't get it, because both times this has happened, it comes out of no where. My computer will be running just fine, then 'BAM!' out of no where my CPU usage is out of the roof. I'll try restarting, closing everything on my toolbar nothing works. Speaking of toolbars, mine is pretty empty, it's not overloaded with a bunch of crap, mostly just important stuff like firewall and virus scan. I can't imagine that restoring my computer is the only option here. There has to be something that is causing this, that i'm not detecting. Originally I would have guaranteed it was a virus, but McAfee Virusscan isn't picking up anything. And it's obviously some software issue, because when I tried restoring my computer a few days ago when I was having this problem, everything ended up working normally after that. This time when I tried it though, there was no luck.
Ive noticed that for the most minmal ofpc tasks my cpu usage alwasy jumps to 89-100% which in turn slows down my PC? does anyone have any ideas how i can lower that?
