Blue Screen - Unstable And IE6 Shut Down Frequently
May 27, 2006
Frequently am working and then get the "blue screen" filled with "if this is the first time you've gotten this screen. maybe virus, I don't think I have virus issues since I just repartitioned my whole HD and just loaded up a new copy of Windows XPSP2. Still I get this screen frequently. I also get iE6 wanting to shut down periodically (it says it's sorry........) and that is real frustrating.......plus it struggles with add-ons....maybe I should reinstall IE6.All this coupled with my inability to take up my NAV2004 program makes for a fun day. Compag not that old and as I say new XP.

An error that has been on common on my computer for some time now. i have had it a lot more frequently. I have yet to complete a full panda virus scan on my computer except on safe mode. I found a virus and it disinfected it,my computer still crashes quite a lot. I used to have norton installed, but i couldn't finish a scan with that either so i tried to remove as much of it as i could and installed panda.

About 3 days ago, I was on my computer and then it just automatically shut off, then went to a blue screen. I don't quite remember what the blue screen said, but it mention something about disabling BIOS and disableing/removing any new software I had downloaded. I didn't download ANY new software, and I dont really know much about computers, therefore don't know what to do about the BIOs. It also did mention something about disabling caching as well. I thought this was a one time thing, so I booted up my computer again, and it happened at 14 minutes later, and then again and again. I tried doing a last known good configuration while booting up the computer, but than a bigger problem started. My mouse stopped working. It's a wireless Microsoft mouse, and I used the other one that I had, and that didn't work either. It seemed that the adapter didn't want to connect with the mouse, therefore just sat there with the light blinking.

My laptop gets the blue screen of death about five times a day. It comes up and shuts down my computer to fast for me to read what it says so I haven't a clue what the error message is, the only word I have been able to catch before it disapears is 'dumping' Is there a log somewhere on my computer system that I can pull up the error message or does someone here know what I'm referring to by that one word?

I was recently trying to install Medieval Total War II onto my computer. I've had it installed before in the past, and it worked fine on my computer. I wanted to play it again, so when I went to install it it gave me the blue screen. It said:Quote: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREAIt then said something about disabling BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing, etc. Then it had what I'm guessing is the error code:***STOP: 0x00000050 (0x46263D6, 0x00000000, 0x804ED967, 0x00000001)

My computer is not booting up. A while back while using my computer a blue screen popped up saying that windows encountered an error and that it would shut down to prevent damage. When that happened I simply restarted my computer and everything was fine. This happened one or two times later and everything was fine. Today it happened again and when I went to restart it it the blue screen popped up immediately after that. On the third time I went to restart it the computer just said boot failure and did nothing. Every time I try to restart it does the same thing. It will let me press f2 for the start up settings but when I press f8 for safe mode it does nothing.

My Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop on boot-up consistently gives a blue screen with ERROR (0X000000ED (0X81ACA988, 0XC0000006,0X00000000,0X00000000). I have read most of your fixes BUT in my case no matter what I do it ALWAYS boots to this screen. Trying to boot to Safe Mode results in a list of drivers prefixed by ?multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)c:windowsdriver.sys etc The machine will not boot from Floppy or CD and I?ve tried every combination of boot sequence under the F12 menu. In the BIOS it will not allow me to change any relevant settings, only the ?system date?, ?system time? and ?quiet boot?.and I cannot select the dropdown menu items either. Booting under Normal Startup, I see the Windows Logo and all that, but then the blue screen appears. I?ve tried removing the hard disk to get it to boot to floppy, removing the battery (which is totally dead), memory module, etc. Only thing left I think is to sling it in the Caribbean Ocean and go drink a bottle of rum.

I am running XP Pro with IE8, there is a problem when I attempt to copy and paste, I can put the pointer on where I want to start highlighting and it will not follow the movement of the mouse when attempting to highlight. You can put the pointer on a sentence and hold the mouse while sliding and it will not highlight, or it may start highlighting somewhere in the middle or maybe not at all. I have tried from bottom up and top down, it makes no difference, this is driving me crazy because I use the copy and paste feature quite often. I've never had this happen before, something appears to be conflicting; but I've been running the same programs for a long period of time and never seen this before.

I am getting random crashes, lock-ups, reboots, you name it. I have had to type this message on wordpad rather than in IE because it will freeze up within seconds. (This site is worse than others for some reason). I recently done a fresh install on my machine so there is very little on it. I have a 160gb sata drive and on 100gb of it I have windows xp sp2 installed and the remaining I have xp sp1 installed so I can switch between the two.

i've recently connected to the internet via broadband, so purchased Norton Internet Security 2008. When trying to install that I was informed I needed to update Windows to XP Service pack 2. (the pc is at least 5 years old, purchased by my wife before we married). I tried this, but eventually a message came up - "Did not install - system unstable". So I did what it said and Uninstalled. But now I'd be very grateful for any advice, ie what does this mean, how can I get the system to be "stable" and thefore install SP2 and therefore Norton Security. In the meantime I'm worried about going on line ( I am sending this from a library) due to being exposed to viruses, spyware etc. A message has already come up about having spyware (but I think this was removed after downloading anti-spyware from yahoo).

so every time i boot the computer i get that good ol' blue screen of death right where windows should open to my desktop.. instead it says "welcome" with the light blue background.. the screen goes black and then comes back with the blue screen.. the message on the screen says:

beginning dump of physical memory dumping physical memory to disk: and counts up to 100 then the computer restarts. i was able to get into safe mode to try a system restore but when the computer restarted it never finished the install (it actually gave me the confirmation that the restore was successful while i was doing a repair install later on) i have tried going through the windows install disc repair utility and doing a chkdsk /p and a chkdsk /r upon doing /r it froze at 53 percent and did not move (i left it for a good 4 hours the first time before restarting it.. and then over night the second time.. and both times it never passed 53 percent............

Recently my OS XP Pro has been acting a little strange, when I start it up a installer has been popping up trying to install a fax, which I do cancel before it can install. Also I tried using System Restore and the restore process starts and gets about 1/3 of the way on the progress bar and restarts my PC and says “your system can not be restored”. I have went to Microsoft knowledge base of known problems w/SR and have tried all the different scenarios and get the same result each time. I have a feeling that I have been hijacked. I am including scans from MalewareBytes and Hijack This.

Not sure if this is really an OS issue or my video card or what. In the middle of playing WOW a few days ago, my husband's monitor went haywire with odd shapes and then displayed a message about nv4_disp caused an error and then it shut down. We then tried rebooting and it only got to the welcome blue screen and froze there with the username and password box distorted. It also displays all of the boot-up screen text in purple which is weird - normally white.

I have received this message from PC-Cillin "detected unstable behavior in the network, hardware, operating system, or another app. and automatically reverted to it's last know configuration ". I have also received a low memory message. This is a brand new system I built with a good MSI board , i gig of Kingston mem. After the PC-Cillin message and reboot It is running stable. When it wasn't you could not do any thing especially online with numerous pages open up. Very strange behavior. I am running Sunbelts Counterspy which is a very good anti spyware program and running the XP Firewall. This seems to be a program draining the PC and not spyware because very little surfing was done. I will uninstall Counterspy to see if there is a memory leak.

With all the default devices enabled in bios, random irq/driver irq not less than or equal BSOD's. Disabled on board FDC, still bsods. Disabled onboard LAN, still bsods. Disabled IDE controllers, still BSOD's. I've tried a pcie and pci card, still bsods. Tried SATA 3&4, still BSODs. I replaced my USB keyboard/mouse with an old ps/2 keyboard and mouse, unplugged my usb headset, and it hasn't crashed since.

About a week ago I reformatted my computer. Everything worked wonderfully and my computer ran great. Then 3 days ago at the end of the night I went to shut it down and it said "install updates and shut down." So, I told it to install and shut down. The next day when I went to turn it on, for the first time since that shutdown, it froze on the XP loading screen. I manually turned it off, then tried again and selected to start windows normally. It came up fine, and ran just great since then, with a couple of different shutdown and restarts in between. Last night, it again said "install updates and shut down." I clicked for it to install and shut down. Now this morning I can't get past the XP loading screen. I have tried 4 different times. I don't know what to try. I also, don't know if the "install and shut down" is part of the problem or just a coincidence.
