This is a nuisance which is really bothering me, about half the time i open a normal folder, the comp freezes, and i have to control alt delete and end task a couple times to make it go away. Does anyone have advice?
View 8 RepliesIs there a way in Windows XP to view the contents of two or more folder contents at the same time? Right now when I click on a Folder 1 to view the files in it, then click ob Folder 2, Folder 1 closes. I can't view the contents of more than one folder at a time without opening up another desktop window in My Computer or Desktop Explorer.

View 10 Replies View RelatedMy computer keeps freezing for no reason at all. It starts up normally, and everything loads just fine. I go to open MSN for example, it opens, but I try to do anything inside of that program like open up a new window and it freezes. I press end now and it doesn't close no matter what, even after hours. I minimize it, go to desktop, try to open a folder and explorer freezes. At this point nothing opens up nothing works and I restart.
I have restarted plenty and its the same story every time. I hadn't done anything different than I usually do with my computer. Just one morning I go to my computer and its been doing this non-stop ever since.When I start the computer in safe mode, this problem doesn't occur so its obviously software, but what could be causing this?

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy mouse/pointer is STILL freezing after about 5 minutes of being logged on. I am using the touchpad mouse that is on my laptop. I have ran an updated version of Adaware6, Spybot, CWShredder & AVG Anti-Virus. I also have Spyware Blaster Protection enabled. I don't know what else to do but ask you guys if you see anything funny in my hijack log... Is it normal to have 4 entries stating info about my startup page? View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I click on My Computer it takes several minutes for it to open. I have windows XP home edition and I use a Cable Modem. Any solutions to this? It is by far one of the more annoying things my computer does lately!
One of the other problems I have is my computer takes forever to start up when I turn it on. There doesnt seem to be anything out of the ordinary in the start up under msconfig I even stopped a few things like AOL and Nav from starting on start up.. seems to be taking even longer since doing that.
I've formatted my hdd using hirens boot cd, partition magic. xp install starts, goes through "setup is loading files", gets to "setup is starting windows" and stops, all activity stops (hdd, cd), full silence. if i'm not mistaking, eula comes next and F8 to continue. i left it for 8 hours and waited, no result. same thing happens with vista - goes through loading files, i get a screen with that green line going from left to right and goes on and on and on forever.I've tried with 2 different xp cds, one xp64 cd and vista dvd. nothing.linux ubuntu installs without any problems.i've tried erasing MBR with acronis disk director suite (hirens boot cd) and with DOS line "fdisk.exe /mbr", but every time my installation freezes.

The first two of the 3 check boxes underneath are ticked. I have no idea what the default action was before, but I don't see anything resembling simply open a folder. Can anyone help me reset the default action or create a new one to open the folder?
Why can't I get XP to open every folder using the "Details" option? I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. Seems like a simple thing, but I can't get XP to understand that's what I want.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy mouse keeps hanging up and clock loses time when not running in safe mode. Not just the mouse really, but nothing at all works. When I boot normally (not into safe mode), windows can take forever to load due to this. On last boot my clock lost 10 out of 15 minutes uptime and I had to manually power off even then. I am running Windows XP Service pack 2 on a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ system with 1214 mb mem 150 gig hdd.

The date goes back to Nov. 2003. Once I correct the date, time and year things seem to perform ok.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently, I tried to open a very large file into Photoshop. It froze, and my computer crashed, so I restarted it by turning off and on the power. When it started up, it was normal, but it got to that screen that tells you that it was shut down incorrectly, and asks if you want to go into safe mode, normal mode, last good configuration, etc.When I go into normal mode (or last good configuration), it gets to the Windows Startup screen (flag w/ green bars moving below), but then the computer just restarts itself.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI made the change below however, if I click on a folder in the left hand "Folders" pane, it works as before and opens the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.
However, if I click on any folders in the right hand (files pane) a new windows explorer window opens a displays the "my documents".
The same thing happens if you click on a shortcut to a folder. Instead of the folder opening, it opens a new window and displays "my documents".
This problems started when I added a new function to the folder file folder file type properties to print out the contents of a folder by calling a batch file that piped the content to a file.
In the file association for file folders in the advanced section I now have three functions
- the afore mentioned 'create file list'
- explore (the default), and
- find
For the folder file type I just have:
- explore and
- open
Any suggestions on how to put things back to the way Windows Explorer always worked before make clicking folders in the right hand pane open them up properly in the same window as per clicking them on the left hand pane?

No matter how I close IE (6.0 SP2) when I re-open it comes up in what I assume is the default "small cluttered screen" mode. I know how to get my display into "Full Screen" using the View menu drop down or by clicking on the Full Screen icon and by using the F11 key. What I need to know is how to get it to open as a "Full Screen" every time I open IE? Is there a setting I can change so I do not have to manually change into "Full Screen" each time I use IE?

Sometimes they open fast but most of the times I have this long delay. Also printing files is a another task that takes a long time. It seems that the printer isn't recoginzed for at least 15 seconds. I am running on a local network using a Linksys router and also am sharing the printer through a computer on the network with a computer that is running Windows 98SE.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows XP Professional.Windows that used to open to full screen (for example,links to websites,or windows opened by running programs) now are minimized and I have to hit the maximize button every time to re size them a real pain.Ran virus programs,adaware, etc. and can't find anything.Didn't used to be a problem. I read in some thread somewhere that this may have to do with pop up screens resetting something or other but I can't locate that thread. Any clues out there on how to fix this?
