I have a normal windows XP computer, The problem is whenever i try to open the recycle bin, there is an error message saying: Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. It than freezes on that page. I than have to press Alt, Control and Delete to close it and carry on.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI often right click in IE and select Create Shortcut.It puts a shortcut and my desktop to that page. This mysteriously stopped working. The icon appears on my desktop with the page title and all, but when I double click it, it just opens up my browser and loads about:blank.In the shortcut file's properties, and then gives me the file's size, location,etc.but it doesn't list the URL anywhere. It's just getting on my nerves having to copy a page's URL to a text file on my desktop if I want to remind myself of something.

Once I click on the file and hit delete the hard drive starts going and after a while I get a confirmation message "Are you sure you want to send file.ext to the recycle bin?" I click yes and then it's hung up again for a while as I watch pieces of paper float accross the screen from a file folder to a recycle bin, and then it finally deletes. This is a new problem on my old machine.I also can't open the recylcing bin, but I can empty it. When I click on the recycle bin it opens a window and shows the "flashlight" icon, the hard drive goes, and it never finished it's process, never displays the recycling bin contents.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer is working fine other than the browser (IE6). It takes about 2 minutes to open a page. Once opened it works fine. My home page is google, I can see the page right away but it's frozen. It stays that way for about 2 minutes then it works fine. No other problems arise until it tries to open a new page. Then the same thing happens again. I emptied all the offline and temp Internet files. Also emptied cookies and history. Ran spybot and adaware but it had no effect.
View 8 Replies View Relatedlaptop was infected with the Antivirus 2009 after surfing the web and I removed it using malwarebytes program. Then shortly after the laptop would show a blue screen, displaying "KERNEL STACK INPAGE ERROR" and then reboot. After the reboot, my laptop seemed to run fine, I downloaded AVG antivirus software to check if there was a boot sector virus (?) and after running the laptop for about 30 minutes, it showed the blue screen again and reboots. This kept on occuring.
Then I tried to reformat the laptop. The first time I tried to format it as FAT32, it got to about 60% before rebooting. The second time I managed to get past the formatting (FAT32 [quick])and I got onto the part of installing windows. About 20 minutes into the installation. A stop error appeared "STOP C0000218 Unknown Hard Error". Could the hard disk be corrupt
I did a system restore and now I cannot get my home page to open on either the keyboard or from the IE When I open the Home it goes to AOL The home page keeps going to redirect.I have tryied restting every way I know how but still no home page.I am new to all this so any help would be great.

I go to open MSN for example, it opens, but I try to do anything inside of that program like open up a new window and it freezes. When it started up, it was normal, but it got to that screen that tells you that it was shut down incorrectly, and asks if you want to go into safe mode, normal mode, last good configuration, etc.When I go into normal mode (or last good configuration), it gets to the Windows Startup screen (flag w/ green bars moving below), but then the computer just restarts itself.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy system is set up with three harddrives and multiple partitions on each drive.I know that if I just delete a file, it's stored in the Recycle Bin and not actually deleted, even if I empty the bin.However, since the Recycle Bin is on the C: drive, if I delete a file from another drive's partition, and then I use Eraser on the Recycle Bin to overwrite the files inside, are the files still on the partition and the empty space on it now has to also be Erased?
