I have a shared folder which contains many folders for many users on my network and to make users folders recognisable we chose to fix a folder picture of every folder with the picture of the folder owner. The problem is that those folders never have a constant folder picture on all of my network computers as the picture always changes for some reason, I've tried to set permissions on thumb.db file

However, those computers cannot access shared folders on this computer (the XP SP2 machine).The shared folders are visible from the other computers, but when they attempt to access them, they get a dialog box to log in with userid and password. I have tried various combinations of userid and password, including "thiscomputernameprimaryaccountname" with the associated password. Authentication fails.I am using simple file sharing.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI made the change below however, if I click on a folder in the left hand "Folders" pane, it works as before and opens the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.
However, if I click on any folders in the right hand (files pane) a new windows explorer window opens a displays the "my documents".
The same thing happens if you click on a shortcut to a folder. Instead of the folder opening, it opens a new window and displays "my documents".
This problems started when I added a new function to the folder file folder file type properties to print out the contents of a folder by calling a batch file that piped the content to a file.
In the file association for file folders in the advanced section I now have three functions
- the afore mentioned 'create file list'
- explore (the default), and
- find
For the folder file type I just have:
- explore and
- open
Any suggestions on how to put things back to the way Windows Explorer always worked before make clicking folders in the right hand pane open them up properly in the same window as per clicking them on the left hand pane?
I'm using Windows XP and I've been having problems with some MP3 files in regards to album artwork and tagging. I've discovered that it's my album folders that have been tagged (most likely by me) to have a custom Folder Picture.I want to remove all the Folder Pictures from my music album folders. I fear I will have to do one by one (which is a LOT!) unless I can find a reverse procedure in the program I suspect caused this to happen. That program is Tag&Rename, and I suspect I accidentally added custom pictures to these folders when I was adding album art to the individual music files

Why can't I get XP to open every folder using the "Details" option? I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. View 2 Replies View RelatedWe lost electricity for about 2/10ths of a second. My son was on the computer when it happened. The computer shut off and came back on. When it resumed, we were unable to connect to the internet. The first thing I did was check the Network Connections folder. To my dismay.This happened several months ago, and I was not able to fix anything and ended up using my 9 HP recovery disks. All I could find on the net seemed to involve fixing connections that you could see in the folder. I did a restore to the day before. Nothing. I did a system restore which put all the crap back on my computer that I don't need but still did not get me anything in my connections folder. I used the network connection wizard which says my broadband is working fine but won't connect. I checked my network adapters which were all working fine (although always hidden, is that normal?) When I did the system restore, it removed several network adapters, but since I don't have anything in the connections folder to connect, it doesn't really matter at this point.

In an effort to save my old files I reinstalled windows XP on my secondary hard drive, hoping to access my original hard drive's files through the reinstalled version of windows. Everything went according to plan except when trying to access the old My Documents folder, and the computer says Access denied, probably because that folder was declared private on my old network and because the user account was password protected.

All was fine until yesterday when she asked "what all all these files here in My Documents" I recognized them as files/folder from MY PC. I ahve created the appropriate shares and have created a "My Network Place" to be able to view the files in that location. Howver, I am also trying to connect my bookkeeping software (QuickBooks) to the data store that resides in that folder. When I connect locally through the network at work, it seems to work fine.

examples:
1) From windows explorer when I go to My Documents click on My pictures and select thumbnail view and explorer crashes
2) if a picture is embedded in an email and I right click and select save "save picture as" the "my picture" folder pops up in thumbnail view and I get the error "ms outlook has encountered a problem...." if I report or don't report the error outlook crashes.
3) If I try to insert a a picture into excel...inset>picture>from file. The application opens the "my picture" folder in thumbnail view and then excel promptly crashes.
4) If I try to change the wallpaper on my computer and go to browse which opens "my picture" folder in thumbnail view and guess what...the application crashes. Here is get the error

I am using windows XP pro and MS office business edition 2003. I have a dell latitude d820 and I have recently have had the hard drive cleaned and everything reinstalled up to service pack 2 (service pack 3 eliminated that fax console which I use so I am NOT using SP3)
have a new installation of WinXP SP1. When i try to browse any folder, the explorer either hangs for a long time or crashes occasionally. This happens when my machine is connected to network. If my machine is off the network, it shows the folder contents immediately. I removed all the network shares connected to my machine and still the problem persists.
