Mapping Network Drive To Remote Folder?

May 12, 2004

I am trying to set up remote access to files located on a webserver in my office. The server is Windows 2000 Small Business Server. I ahve created the appropriate shares and have created a "My Network Place" to be able to view the files in that location. Howver, I am also trying to connect my bookkeeping software (QuickBooks) to the data store that resides in that folder. When I connect locally through the network at work, it seems to work fine.

Wireless Wont Work In Mapping Network Drives ?

Sep 18, 2010

I have several network drives. I am on a laptop and whenever I disconnect from my dock (wired connection)it automatically closes any open folders connected to a network drive. My wireless kicks in a few seconds later, and I have to go through the trouble reopening them all!Is there a registry setting I can set to prevent this?If I turn the PC on outside of work, it doesn't connect these drives, and thus will prevent them from showing even when I go in and connect to the network. I have to connect them MANUALLY every time.

USB Drive Mapping - Attached To A Domain

Jul 11, 2005

Is there anyway to designate which drive letters a USB storage device will take?I have a WinXP Pro, SP2, workstation attached to a domain and I have several mapped drives that are assigned to me. Additionally, I have one floppy, two hard drives and two CD drives. These take up A, C, D, E, and F. The mappings use G, I, N and Z. The probelm occurs when I plug in any type of USB storage device (my thumb drive or cammera). It automatically gets assigned G drive. I can access the USB device but when I go to properties, I get the mapped drives info.

Remote Viewing Over Home Network

Jun 26, 2005

I have three machines with different versions Windows (95, 98SE, and XP HE) all behind a hub, a switch, and a firewall. A few programs on my 98SE won't run on my XP. That means a trip down three floor levels (short levels of 6 -8 steps but I'm gettin' old).I ran across a piece of software that looks like it may be the answer I am concerned about downloading something from the net and later finding that it has tentacles that stretch beyond my little home network and now feed data outside my system.
Q1) Will this particular product allow my XP to use programs on my 98SE as though I were sitting at the 98SE?
Q2) Is there an increased security risk if this software were installed and
used?

New Network Printer On Remote Location Wont Print?

I have installed a printer in a remote location on four machines. They all run Windows XP (SP2 I think). It works perfectly on three of the machines, but will not work on the fourth for some reason. It installs on a TCP/IP port just fine, and we can view properties and everything, but it will not print at all. I have no physical access to these computers, so cannot provide very much more information about them, but I'll try my best.

Network Connection Folder Is Empty

Oct 25, 2008

We lost electricity for about 2/10ths of a second. My son was on the computer when it happened. The computer shut off and came back on. When it resumed, we were unable to connect to the internet. The first thing I did was check the Network Connections folder. To my dismay. This happened several months ago, and I was not able to fix anything and ended up using my 9 HP recovery disks. All I could find on the net seemed to involve fixing connections that you could see in the folder. I did a restore to the day before. Nothing. I did a system restore which put all the crap back on my computer that I don't need but still did not get me anything in my connections folder. I used the network connection wizard which says my broadband is working fine but won't connect. I checked my network adapters which were all working fine (although always hidden, is that normal?) When I did the system restore, it removed several network adapters, but since I don't have anything in the connections folder to connect, it doesn't really matter at this point.

Folder Declared Private On My Old Network

May 21, 2006

I recently upgraded my computer's CPU/Motherboard/RAM etc however, after plugging in my old hard drives, Windows failed to load. In an effort to save my old files I reinstalled windows XP on my secondary hard drive, hoping to access my original hard drive's files through the reinstalled version of windows. Everything went according to plan except when trying to access the old My Documents folder, and the computer says Access denied, probably because that folder was declared private on my old network and because the user account was password protected.

Drive Letter Clash (mapped Network Drives Vs Physical Drive)?

Aug 3, 2005

My office has a number of mapped network drives for each user which, unfortunately, start at drive letter F.Each time a USB device is used on the computer it is also automatically assigned the drive letter F (presuming that C is hard disk and D and E are CD/DVD drives). This has to be manually changed from within Disk Management.Apparently this is as a result of physical drives taking precedent over the mapped network drives. Is there any workaround for this other than moving the mapped drive letters further along in the alphabet? - this is not really a feasible solution at this time.

Shows Up External Hard Drive As A Network Drive?

May 17, 2007

I've connected an external USB drive, but when I go to My Computer it shows it as a network drive. In addition, it gives it the same name as the mapped network drive that already exists there. When I change the name of the external drive there, it then changes the name of the mapped network drive, so again they both have the same name, although the drive letters are different. Any ideas how to make the external drive appear where it belongs in My Computer, under Hard Disk drives?

Remote Drive Access Permissions

Apr 23, 2006

I am trying to remotely access drives from my one computer to my laptop in order to transfer files with more ease than running back and forth, burning, copying, etc. The method I am using is simple enough. The drives are set for administrative share [c$, d$, etc]. And I am accessing through the run command via \REMOTE_IPc$. I am definately pinging the computer correctly because a dialog box opens, however this is where the problem begins. The dialog box does not let me switch to an administrative account. It only shows "Guest" in the login name.

I dont have the guest account even activated on my main Desktop CPU and I wont have much access without administative rights. I was just wondering what could be making it so that I cant login under my main administative name. My desktop is using WinXP pro. Laptop is using XP home. Not sure if this fact matters but the desktop is using internet connection sharing that is feeding a router, which in turn is giving wireless internet to my home network wherein my laptop is connected. Also, I can access remote desktop easily enough but even with disk drives shared they do not show up on the remote computers "My Computer" folder.
