I am trying to map a drive to Sage on my SBS Server 2003, I can find the file location and once mapped I run netsetup.exe, everything seems to work until I try to open Sage from the XP machine, it says that there are about 4 or 5 path errors. Basically I am trying to swap an olp XP Pro machine with a new one but need to copy everything over to the shiny new one.
View 7 RepliesI have hit another wall. Using W2K-Pro I installed VirtualPC 2004-SP1. I then installed DOS 6.22.I began the win3.1 install and at the end of the second disk when it launches win3.1-Setup and asks for a Name and Company the Virtual Machine hangs. No mouse, no blinking cursor.I can right-Alt to shut down the VM. OK, so I though it might be the USB mouse and keyboard so I shut it all down and plugged in a M$oft PS/2 mouse and keyboard. Same problem with the win3.1 install. Not to be beaten, I went to another PC also running W2K-Pro. Exact same issue with win3.1. Not be be beaten again, again I installed VPC-2004 on an XP-Pro, damn me, same again at the end of the win3.1 second diskette. I have tried installing DOS and win3.1 onto a 486 machine and it installs fine so I doubt it is a faulty diskette.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to designate which drive letters a USB storage device will take?I have a WinXP Pro, SP2, workstation attached to a domain and I have several mapped drives that are assigned to me. Additionally, I have one floppy, two hard drives and two CD drives. These take up A, C, D, E, and F. The mappings use G, I, N and Z. The probelm occurs when I plug in any type of USB storage device (my thumb drive or cammera). It automatically gets assigned G drive. I can access the USB device but when I go to properties, I get the mapped drives info.

I ahve created the appropriate shares and have created a "My Network Place" to be able to view the files in that location. Howver, I am also trying to connect my bookkeeping software (QuickBooks) to the data store that resides in that folder. When I connect locally through the network at work, it seems to work fine.

I am on a laptop and whenever I disconnect from my dock (wired connection)it automatically closes any open folders connected to a network drive.My wireless kicks in a few seconds later, and I have to go through the trouble reopening them all!Is there a registry setting I can set to prevent this?If I turn the PC on outside of work, it doesn't connect these drives, and thus will prevent them from showing even when I go in and connect to the network. I have to connect them MANUALLY every time.

The CD-ROM (XP OS nstallation) does not allow my to INSTALL XP (cannot select the on) maybe because downgrades are not allowed. I also tried to reformat my hard-disk and install XP from scratch. I can not find much on TechNet either. I see that this is a problem for others in other forums, but I could not find a resolution on any site. Anyone have a cause and resolution? I have a server running Windows 2003. Installing the new service pack crashed the c: drive!! I did a repair install, reinstalled missing programs, and all seemed fine. Now I can't remote in to the server, have no remote tab to enable, and get a missing .dll error attempting to check properties through My Computer. Looking at the event viewer, I have a bunch of stuff related to missing/corrupt .dll files. I know there's a quick fix in XP by installing from the INF folder.

When I try to reinstall I get the message "The System Adminsitrator has set polcies to prevent this installation" I am running XP Professional and am the only user on this home computer. It is not on a network. I know this is an old problem, as I looked it up on Google. I did try to fix it by going to the local security policy and changing settings. This did not work. I am not familiar with "registries" and am hesitant to try anything in that area.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had this server installed by a technician as a file server. I tried to upgrade it a few times but the settings were so tight it wouldnt even allow automatic updates. There is no antivirus program on the server but all the worstations do. My problem now is that I can't log on to the server. It accepts my user and pass, prepares network connections, then I see the desktop for a second or two and then loops back to the logon screen (ctrl+alt+del). Many other owners have this same problem but I havent found anyone with a fix. I am able to access the server thru a workstation and found the server to have a virus (win32 Parite) which apparently does not damage the files. I have scanned it many times with AVG and at the end of the scan it says must reboot to heal, but since I am using a workstation to scan, it is the workstation that reboots and the virus is not healed. I have rebooted the server also by killing the battery but no luck.

I have a file server that is not set to active directory, so I am trying to simplify the sharing of drive space. I am testing that I can or cannot get into certain groups. When I access from another Windows client and I get into my own file and then go out to try and get into another persons folder, I am auto directed to mine. I have to logg off each time to check each persons user folders and log in as them.
What i mean is can I just start my computer from the XP install CD w/o having formatted my harddrive which currently contains server 2003 and expect XP to install over server 2003? Or can I format my harddrive if i only have one?

I don't want it anymore. PC's 200 gigs, now it's divided into D:5.32 fat32 c:181.07 ntfs g: 7.00 fat, and also an unallocated 159.97 gigs All these fall under Disk 0: Basic 346.28GB online doesn't make any sense.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEarlier this evening I had a problem that ended up requiring me to do a fresh install of Windows XP Pro with service pack 2 onto my computer. I did not format, rather I installed over the current and problematic install. I've done this a number of times in the past with very few problems. Tonight was not one of these times however.For some reason (and this has not happened in the past) when I went to open up Outlook I could not find the program at all. I cannot in fact find any Office programs when I had the full suite installed.When doing this in the past, all my desktop icons remained in tact as did my startup menu. Now, this time, the only thing missing is Office.
