The CD-ROM (XP OS nstallation) does not allow my to INSTALL XP (cannot select the on) maybe because downgrades are not allowed. I also tried to reformat my hard-disk and install XP from scratch. My laptop have just one drive (C: drive). When I force to boot from my CD-ROM (BIOS settings), nothing happens Boot error
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a server running Windows 2003. Installing the new service pack crashed the c: drive!! I did a repair install, reinstalled missing programs, and all seemed fine. Now I can't remote in to the server, have no remote tab to enable, and get a missing .dll error attempting to check properties through My Computer. Looking at the event viewer, I have a bunch of stuff related to missing/corrupt .dll files. I know there's a quick fix in XP by installing from the INF folder.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a file server that is not set to active directory, so I am trying to simplify the sharing of drive space. I am testing that I can or cannot get into certain groups. When I access from another Windows client and I get into my own file and then go out to try and get into another persons folder, I am auto directed to mine. I have to logg off each time to check each persons user folders and log in as them.
What i mean is can I just start my computer from the XP install CD w/o having formatted my harddrive which currently contains server 2003 and expect XP to install over server 2003? Or can I format my harddrive if i only have one?

Okay I have a IBM e-server running Server 2003 SP2 and I rebooted the system after an AVG Server edition update required a reboot. The system booted up fine, My remote offices can connect through terminal services just fine, I can ping websites, I can Ping my ip, dns, etc. But I cannot access the internet from the server through internet explorer. I rebooted the server again and the same problem still persist. I even disabled the web filters in my Linksys RV082 Router. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Could and AVG update caused this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 3 computers. One running VistaRC1, One running Windows Server 2003 and one running Windows XP Pro.I'm trying to network the 3 of them and just attach a keyboard, mouse and monitor to the Vista machine.My question relates to the fact that Server 2003 machine will not startup completely without a keyboard and mouse attached to it (I'm not sure yet, but I think the same is true of the XP machine.)Is there a way to configure either the operating system or the BIOS to allow the Server 2003 and XP machines to completely startup without having either a keyboard, mouse (and monitor) attached to them?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Power Edge server with a C: drive that is too small. The RAID array is about 40GB but only 9 GB was given for the C: drive and it has run out of space so I cannot install service packs, extra software, etc. The remaining space is an F: drive with the "data" on it. What method should I use to extend the partition, I am thinking of just moving all of the F: drive to an external hard drive and then deleting the F: drive and trying to extend the partition in Windows Disk Manager, but I wonder if that will even work, or if there is a better tool out there to use to manage these partitions. I would like to preserve the Windows installation and everything on the C: drive if at all possible. I dont care if I have an F: drive, if I can just get a big enough C: drive, that will be fine.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install the Print Management Console for Server 2003 R2 So far I have added the role of Print Server to the server. Discovered that the reason Print Management Console wasn't an option in the Admin Tools because you have to install it from Disk 2. Tried to install it and was told that the version of windows I was running wasnt the correct one for this update. Tried updating to R2 (how do you tell if the version your running is R2 or not?) but was told the version of Windows I was running is newer than the one on the disk. All I want is the PMC installed...
1) How do I tell whether I am already running R2 or not?
2) How do I get the PMC on this damn server?
I'm just wondering what the "Enforced" setting under Group Policy Object Management does?

I went ahead and tried on what will be my server PIII600, 512 MB RAM, First try, Server 2003 couldn't find a file when installing, retried and it worked. Downloaded SP1 and when I was extracting it said "file is corrupt", downloaded 4 more times with same result. reformatted and reinstalled 5 more times and cannot get past "file is corrupt" on SP1 and sometimes extracting the .Net 2.0 installer got the same error. I swap all hardware with PC from first try (except RAM, Mobo, CPU, CDROM) with no change. Win98 and XP installed fine on the second PC just can't get server 2003

View 8 Replies View RelatedThe procedure is as follows:
Right-click databases -> Restore Database
I mark 'from device', click the '...' button & select 'File' in the dropdown, then brows to the file itself. Under 'select the backup sets to restore' I check the only checkbox there, then in the 'To Database' I select the name of the database in the file (a new DB name appears there as you select the file).
XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it
