I went in to gpedit.msc and lock the control panel and it turns out that I've had my own administrator account lock as well. So want can I do to prevent User access the control panel and still let the administrator access it.
I just built a new computer system w/ an AMD Athlon 64 CPU (My First Build) and was wondering if you guys could help me decide what operating system to use. Here's a list of the ones I'm considering so far...
Windows XP 32-Bit or 64-Bit Windows Vista 32 Bit or 64-Bit Windows Server 2003 32 Bit or 64-Bit
A friend of mine did who knows what to his computer using some data cleaning software, called secure clean. He set it to run and automatically shut down the PC when finished. Upon reboot, his taskbar was a different color, he was shown a message requesting that he log in with a user that has administrative privileges, his internet connection was gone (ipconfig showed 0.0.0.0 on everything, and ipconfig /renew said "RPC server unavailable"....even though the Administrative Tools>Services applet shows it to be "started").System Restore is not an option, as it was disabled a month ago in hopes of solving another unrelated problem.
Recently, my XP Pro SP3 Control panel started opening upon Windows startup. I've found no one on the Net who has this problem, and have no idea how to stop this behavior.
When I attempt to make any selection in my Control Panel such as Add/Remove programs etc, a DOS screen pops up along with a dialogue box that reads like this: 16 Bit MS-DOS Subsystem C:WindowsSystem32 undll32.exe The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. CS: 0000 IP: 0077 OP:fo 37 05 0c 02 Choose 'close' to terminate the application Trying to reinstall WindowsXP from the original CD fails and just gives me an error message telling me it can't install because I have a newer version of Windows. Can someone help me with the best course of action to take? I need my computer for a job search and it is getting more unstable all the time. Also, I get two of these same DOS screens with the same error message at startup. I would really appreciate some help. Now, here is what someone at another forum told me to do that didn't work, unfortunately:
This is my first post in the forum.I am facing a biz prblm.Whenever i try to open the control Panel user accounts window. The window is automatically closing after 5-6 seconds. i dnt knw y Even the same when i open the help and support page its closing automatically.

When I open Control panel and then printers, the properties window will not open fully. Part of the info is cut off. There is no maximize button and I can not drag any corners. Reloaded print driver, no help.
In the thread, Saafe Mode, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP, wrote this answer, "The normal Windows, yes (like IE and OE), but not the ones for the control panel applets." to this question, "Are you saying that the active window size is not adjustable? In my XP Home, I can resize these control panel applets. Add or Remove Programs, Administrative Tools, Fonts, Network Connections,Portable Media Devices, Printers and Faxes, Scanners and Cameras, Scheduled Tasks, Security Center, and User Accounts are acting like normal windows. These windows all have Minimize, Maximize, and Close in the upper left corner.Tile vertically and horizontally work on all of these control panel applets.
I install Server 2003 Standard SP1 downloaded and installed on a PII 400, 256Mb RAM with IIS, ASP.Net 2.0, SQL server 2000 SP4, Mysql 5, and PHP5, and all without a single hitch...too good to be true. I went ahead and tried on what will be my server PIII600, 512 MB RAM, First try, Server 2003 couldn't find a file when installing, retried and it worked. Downloaded SP1 and when I was extracting it said "file is corrupt", downloaded 4 more times with same result. reformatted and reinstalled 5 more times and cannot get past "file is corrupt" on SP1 and sometimes extracting the .Net 2.0 installer got the same error. I swap all hardware with PC from first try (except RAM, Mobo, CPU, CDROM) with no change. Win98 and XP installed fine on the second PC just can't get server 2003
I have Windows Server 2003 on my laptop and would like to 'downgrade' it with Windows XP Professional. The CD-ROM (XP OS nstallation) does not allow my to INSTALL XP (cannot select the on) maybe because downgrades are not allowed. I also tried to reformat my hard-disk and install XP from scratch. My laptop have just one drive (C: drive). When I force to boot from my CD-ROM (BIOS settings), nothing happens Boot error
I have a server running Windows 2003. Installing the new service pack crashed the c: drive!! I did a repair install, reinstalled missing programs, and all seemed fine. Now I can't remote in to the server, have no remote tab to enable, and get a missing .dll error attempting to check properties through My Computer. Looking at the event viewer, I have a bunch of stuff related to missing/corrupt .dll files. I know there's a quick fix in XP by installing from the INF folder.
I have a file server that is not set to active directory, so I am trying to simplify the sharing of drive space. I am testing that I can or cannot get into certain groups. When I access from another Windows client and I get into my own file and then go out to try and get into another persons folder, I am auto directed to mine. I have to logg off each time to check each persons user folders and log in as them.
What i mean is can I just start my computer from the XP install CD w/o having formatted my harddrive which currently contains server 2003 and expect XP to install over server 2003? Or can I format my harddrive if i only have one?
I found a list of services that could potentially be turned off in WinXP which describes each service in detail and if you need it or not.Is there a guide out there for WinServer 2003? I am using it as a web server for my personal website. The server runs PHP, ASP.Net, MS SQL, and MySQL.
I need a low down on how they now license 2003. I am looking to put together a 2003 server with Exchange and terminal services. Do I need a CAL for all 3 now? IE that would require 75 licenses for 25 users. Am I correct?
Okay I have a IBM e-server running Server 2003 SP2 and I rebooted the system after an AVG Server edition update required a reboot. The system booted up fine, My remote offices can connect through terminal services just fine, I can ping websites, I can Ping my ip, dns, etc. But I cannot access the internet from the server through internet explorer. I rebooted the server again and the same problem still persist. I even disabled the web filters in my Linksys RV082 Router. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Could and AVG update caused this?
Running WinXProSP2. When I go to add/remove programs and click on the Windows components button, I get the error message: "Setup library MSDTCSTP.dll could not be loaded, or function 0cEntry could not be found. Contact your system administrator. The specific error code is 0x7e." I've searched a lot and the only references I can find are to Server 2003.
i have recently been working on server 2003 i have created users and groups no problems. i have even created group policies that work and everything i wanted them to do but i have some problems with copies of the profiles that dont work i have checked all the settings i can think of and the working profiles have all the same settings as the none working profiles. the thing is that even the none working profiles do work in part the redirect of folders and mydocuments work. is there anyone out there who can give me some tips as to where i might be going wrong.
I have tried the following boot.ini and I get the choices during startup and when I choose XP Pro, it boots just fine. However when I choose Server 2003, nothing happens. Below is my current boot.ini configuration.
I have got windows server 2003 running on 1 of my pcs and i got other computers networked. and on my computers running windows 2000 i cant do remote desktop connection to those computers. Does anyone know how to do it?
Our main server has a login problem - When we login it goes through all the normal processes then immediately logs off again, this happens on the server itsself and also clients connecting to it thru remote desktop.
I have just installed a server with MS Windows 2003 server sp2, it is running a domain. When I try to log into the domain on the server from a work station, it takes about 30 to 60 seconds before the desktop comes up. Now I have another network with this same setup and logging in takes seconds.
I have 3 computers. One running VistaRC1, One running Windows Server 2003 and one running Windows XP Pro.I'm trying to network the 3 of them and just attach a keyboard, mouse and monitor to the Vista machine. My question relates to the fact that Server 2003 machine will not startup completely without a keyboard and mouse attached to it (I'm not sure yet, but I think the same is true of the XP machine.)Is there a way to configure either the operating system or the BIOS to allow the Server 2003 and XP machines to completely startup without having either a keyboard, mouse (and monitor) attached to them?
how can i enable the registry editor for the Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition, when i type in run command it gives me the message "registry editing is disabled by your administrator".
I have a Dell Power Edge server with a C: drive that is too small. The RAID array is about 40GB but only 9 GB was given for the C: drive and it has run out of space so I cannot install service packs, extra software, etc. The remaining space is an F: drive with the "data" on it. What method should I use to extend the partition, I am thinking of just moving all of the F: drive to an external hard drive and then deleting the F: drive and trying to extend the partition in Windows Disk Manager, but I wonder if that will even work, or if there is a better tool out there to use to manage these partitions. I would like to preserve the Windows installation and everything on the C: drive if at all possible. I dont care if I have an F: drive, if I can just get a big enough C: drive, that will be fine.
I am trying to install the Print Management Console for Server 2003 R2 So far I have added the role of Print Server to the server. Discovered that the reason Print Management Console wasn't an option in the Admin Tools because you have to install it from Disk 2. Tried to install it and was told that the version of windows I was running wasnt the correct one for this update. Tried updating to R2 (how do you tell if the version your running is R2 or not?) but was told the version of Windows I was running is newer than the one on the disk. All I want is the PMC installed...
1) How do I tell whether I am already running R2 or not? 2) How do I get the PMC on this damn server?
