Installing Acting Weird - Installing Windows Server 2003
Dec 20, 2006
I install Server 2003 Standard SP1 downloaded and installed on a PII 400, 256Mb RAM with IIS, ASP.Net 2.0, SQL server 2000 SP4, Mysql 5, and PHP5, and all without a single hitch...too good to be true. I went ahead and tried on what will be my server PIII600, 512 MB RAM, First try, Server 2003 couldn't find a file when installing, retried and it worked. Downloaded SP1 and when I was extracting it said "file is corrupt", downloaded 4 more times with same result. reformatted and reinstalled 5 more times and cannot get past "file is corrupt" on SP1 and sometimes extracting the .Net 2.0 installer got the same error. I swap all hardware with PC from first try (except RAM, Mobo, CPU, CDROM) with no change. Win98 and XP installed fine on the second PC just can't get server 2003
I have a Windows XP and Comcast is my provider. Lately (started 2 weeks ago), while in the midst of doing a search or while viewing an internet news video, a BOX POPS UP and asks me if I want to WORK OFFLINE and I get automatically booted to WORKING OFFLINE. I know this is someone told me to CLICK ON "FILE" and there it is, a checkmark in front of WORK OFFLINE.
I just built a new computer system w/ an AMD Athlon 64 CPU (My First Build) and was wondering if you guys could help me decide what operating system to use. Here's a list of the ones I'm considering so far...
Windows XP 32-Bit or 64-Bit Windows Vista 32 Bit or 64-Bit Windows Server 2003 32 Bit or 64-Bit
I went in to gpedit.msc and lock the control panel and it turns out that I've had my own administrator account lock as well. So want can I do to prevent User access the control panel and still let the administrator access it.
I have a amd64 200 with 1GB RAM and 80 GB HD running xp home edition sp2. around may, sp3 tried to install a number of times but failed. After reading the info about how to install sp3, I did so and it completed!
The system worked for about 2 hours and then a 'MACHINE_EXCEPTION' error. I uninstalled sp3 and no more machine_exception errors! now, the anti-virus software started finding infections in windows,windowssystem32, even 'System Volume Information'
I'm trying to setup a batch file that executes the Office 2003 Standard installation when a user logs in for the first time. how I can automate the insertion of the product key without any user interaction?
I'm in the middle of a basic networking lab and one of my VM's crashed. As our host, we use Windows XP. For virtualization we use VMware Workstation. I had a problem installing the Internet Printing Client for my lab. I got an error saying that there wasn't enough hard drive space. I then shut down my VM and added another hard drive. Upon startup I was greeted with: STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} i did this:Removing the virtual HDD I added before the problems started. Restarting the VM. Restarting the host machine. Trying the VM on another machine. Booting to .iso and using the repair console with the command chkdsk C: /r.
When I try to open Microsoft Office Word 2003 a window pops up that says window installer then it says installing microsoft office word feature. It stops half way and another window pops up that says Installation error file not found. A required installation file SKU112.CAB could not be found. Original installation source required. If you installed Microsoft Office Standard edition 2003 from cd please insert your cd.
If you installed Microsoft office standard edition 2003 over your computer network please browse to the installation source on your computer. Also a window popped up that says Microsoft word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install application. I don't have the cd its lost. This just started doing this about a month ago. I can't open any files through microsoft office word or power point.
I have a machine with win xp pro spk 2 and IE 7.0, i always leaves this computer on(24x7)cause i run some backups and script files, i came back from vacation and my default webpage www.yahoo.com does not shows the images, when i click on yahoo email the emails are shown complete different that the text are readable but they are not as they use to be, some websites does not show as they suppose to be,if there are some dll files corrupted, something else i noticed is that under internet options advance there is not an option for Java, and i had that installed, i found some unwanted program like ASKTOOLBAR.DLL, THAT I REMOVED using Mcfee, I also ran spywares too, any ideas why Jave does not shows in the advance option, why the images does not show in yahoo website
My screensaver will not turn on after a period of inactivity like it is supposed to. If I go into properties>Screensaver and set the "Wait" time to 5 and press "OK", in 5 five minutes the screensaver will come on. However, if I move the mouse and wait another five minutes the screensaver does not activate. It will only activate once per time you set its properties.
I noticed today that my computer has been acting kind of strange. It moves a lot slower and locks up a lot. its the hijackthis log file i think see if something isn't right
I am getting hanging at any time, where the harddrive light is on continuously, but the monitor is on standby. I sometimes get the blue screen, and other times it just won't boot to the Windows start-up screen In all cases though, when I do have a problem, a simple pressing of the reset button does not do anything, as the monitor never does come back on, therefore no reboot. Only after powering off and on a few times, does it finally kick in. I am on the same computer right now...which leaves me to believe it isn't a software or Windows problem, but perhaps hardware, either memory or video card, I have not installed any new hardware though
After doing multiple virus scans and HiJack this checkups, I do not know what is wrong as you can. Here is my problem. I was checking out some web links when all of a sudden my internet firefox crashed and could not reopen Firefox. After I clicked ctrl+alt+delete I found a process running called msiexec.exe. or something like that. I of course terminated the process and firefox booted up just fine.I found out just right now actually that I believe it is a process for installing things on the operating system made by microsoft
Newly installed copy of Windows XP SP2. Have installed most of my apps and games etc. Now noticing that my " key is not working very well. If i press it once - nothing. Press it again i get two " characters. Also works if i press it once and any other key. Its like the character is queing somewhere in the buffer. Now i thought it was the keyboard at first. So i swapped it out. Same problem. Weird. Thought it might be some strange interaction with loaded software but it happens on bootup at the login prompt when none of my apps are loading
it isn't acting right, but I have been trying to install norton antivirus. She bought the package and has a 2 year subscription, and afterwards we ran live update. It then asks for an activation key, which we have from the email sent to her. When we click OK to tell it that we want to put it in, it does nothing. No matter how long you wait or how many times you click OK, the box just sits there. For this reason, we cant update her virus definitions or get norton to protect her computer. norton is not the only button that will not respond. Somehow the viewpoint toolbar was installed on her computer. When we try to uninstall the viewpoint toolbar or if I go to add/remove programs and try to uninstall it from there, it brings up a box that asks are you sure you want to uninstall viewpoint It does the same as the norton box; it will not respond, even if I click yes and wait
I opened windows explorer and I think it was taking up so much memory that it froze-I had to wait a while for it to work properly, and then it was really slow(even for my slow pc,I had windows live messenger and itunes' windows open and they just disappeared from the taskbar, and I had to right click on their icons in the right corner(is that the notification area-I forgot),and when they reappeared on the taskbar I had to right click on them, and they would only open when I clicked maximize. It took me a while to open some things in windows explorer too
I was reinstalling a fresh copy of Windows XP, but I used a disc from a different manufacturer [a Dell]. My computer is an eMachines T3516 Desktop PC, Now my computer is acting all funny. I can't install anything, my sound doesn't work Windows reports that the sound driver is OK, and my PC makes funny noises it never made before. I already tried updating my system (through the link above) but it gave me an error and just closed the installation
computer have been in some other font other then one that is actually readable (seems somewhat simialar to the wingdings font, all characters are squares and triangle and stuff like that) Anyways I got most of it back by going through the desktop properties--> and into the advanced appearence, but some of them are still in that weird font even after changing all the availible ones to the default. Things like the xp logon screen, the part of google where you enter the text and the task bar. I searched google in most of the threads I've read claim that this shouldn't even exist because they say that when you change the active window font, it also changes the start menu font, but I've fixed the start menu font but the taskbar font is still all weird
So I tried to installed Windows SP3 as well as a bunch of other things and my computer kept crashing and acting weird. I couldn't pin point it so I had to re-format my computer and lost lots of stuff. I also had to re-format about 4 times for some reason. Each time Windows wasn't installing correctly.
So after a brand new fresh install of Windows XP I updated my computer and installed SP3. As soon as I did that my computer wouldn't log into windows anymore and once again I lost a few things. Now I know that SP3 is a bunch of crap.
I recently installed xp for the first time after replacing motherboard and CPU.I skipped setup because I didn't know what I was doing. Now I can't boot up (cold or warm) without using the original disk. Can I just go into setup and change boot settings without re-installing.Is there anything else I should know before I attempt to fix this problem? I am tired of using the disk every time I update something or install new program.
For the last 2 weeks my computer started making me log in. It says that i need to enter a password but I actually don't have to, and instead of having my user side and one for my editing where you have a picture up and you can switch between the two it will only let me go to the side that i use for internet and such. If I ask it to switch to other user it takes me to the login and back to the main users side. what is causing this and how do I correct it. I tried doing a restore and it says I can't restore back to that point. I tried 3 other points and it wouldn't reset to any of them
So I have a Sony Vaio PCG-VX88, and the hard drive has been clicking and the computer has just been acting weird. I can no longer start photoshop, when I ran Windows Spyware check and began deleteing the files it started clicking and after restarting I can't get it back to normal state like I could before. When I started it up it says "no opperating system found" (happend twice) then finally after the 3rd try goes and starts up, the last time I tried it did a check on the file system of the C: drive, will a reformat help Or is it a hardware thing
PC MightyMax after I was having problems with my cmd not starting up. My cmd would say some 16 bit message The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal operation or for that matter try and run anything dos related and I really don't know how that started. I downloaded PC MightyMax to try and fix some of those problems. After installing I ran the test it said and it said I had a good bit of problems wrong and it said I had to pay to fix them so I just said forget it. I restarted my computer and when it got back to the windows part a message comes up in a bunch of symbols I deffinately cannot read. To be blunt just about everything is in those symbol things. It has a button to click even though I can't read it. I click it and it does nothing. I can't get to my desktop or anything. I tried starting in safemode and got to my desktop after hitting the button on the message and all my desktop items and everything else is in those weird symbol things
if my windows is up for more than 2-5 days and i`m doing a lot of work on it like extracting files and playin games a lot w/ that uptime it reaches a point where my icons wont be displayed properly , and my computer wont open up properly as well some times the windows is total invisible ! its like windows is unable to create image display of windows and icons
Outlook Express 6.0 is acting weird. If I minimize it to surf the net, the buttons are bigger when I go back to it. Then, if I minimize it again and come back to it, they are even larger. It does this whether I have it set to large or small icons. The buttons grow so large that only a couple can even be displayed on the page. I have Windows XP Media Edition, all th latest updates
I installed windows xp on a new hard drive. Now when I turn the computer on I get an error.A DISK READ ERROR OCCURED press CLT+ALT+DEL to restart when i press CLT+ALT+DEL the computer will restart but I keep getting the same error and windows won't start.
The computer only came with Windows XP Home edition. Would installing x64 windows improve my performance? Would it cause compatibility issues with x86 apps?
