Can't Get At Add/remove Components - Can Find Are To Server 2003
May 18, 2006
Running WinXProSP2. When I go to add/remove programs and click on the Windows components button, I get the error message: "Setup library MSDTCSTP.dll could not be loaded, or function 0cEntry could not be found. Contact your system administrator. The specific error code is 0x7e." I've searched a lot and the only references I can find are to Server 2003.

I have Windows Server 2003 on my laptop and would like to 'downgrade' it with Windows XP Professional. The CD-ROM (XP OS nstallation) does not allow my to INSTALL XP (cannot select the on) maybe because downgrades are not allowed. I also tried to reformat my hard-disk and install XP from scratch. My laptop have just one drive (C: drive). When I force to boot from my CD-ROM (BIOS settings), nothing happens Boot error

I have a server running Windows 2003. Installing the new service pack crashed the c: drive!! I did a repair install, reinstalled missing programs, and all seemed fine. Now I can't remote in to the server, have no remote tab to enable, and get a missing .dll error attempting to check properties through My Computer. Looking at the event viewer, I have a bunch of stuff related to missing/corrupt .dll files. I know there's a quick fix in XP by installing from the INF folder.

I have a file server that is not set to active directory, so I am trying to simplify the sharing of drive space. I am testing that I can or cannot get into certain groups. When I access from another Windows client and I get into my own file and then go out to try and get into another persons folder, I am auto directed to mine. I have to logg off each time to check each persons user folders and log in as them.

Okay I have a IBM e-server running Server 2003 SP2 and I rebooted the system after an AVG Server edition update required a reboot. The system booted up fine, My remote offices can connect through terminal services just fine, I can ping websites, I can Ping my ip, dns, etc. But I cannot access the internet from the server through internet explorer. I rebooted the server again and the same problem still persist. I even disabled the web filters in my Linksys RV082 Router. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Could and AVG update caused this?

I was trying to remove windows messenger by going to control panel -> add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components I misread the directions for this windows XP setup box and made it so that only windows messenger had a checkmark because I thought this meant that only windows messenger would be modified removed unfortunately, this just meant windows messenger stayed the same and all the other components i had installed were removed. I know they are still on my computer since for accessories/games I can go to start -> run and type in something like "winmine" and minesweeper will open up, however if I go to the start menu and look in games it is empty

I have 3 computers. One running VistaRC1, One running Windows Server 2003 and one running Windows XP Pro.I'm trying to network the 3 of them and just attach a keyboard, mouse and monitor to the Vista machine. My question relates to the fact that Server 2003 machine will not startup completely without a keyboard and mouse attached to it (I'm not sure yet, but I think the same is true of the XP machine.)Is there a way to configure either the operating system or the BIOS to allow the Server 2003 and XP machines to completely startup without having either a keyboard, mouse (and monitor) attached to them?

I have a Dell Power Edge server with a C: drive that is too small. The RAID array is about 40GB but only 9 GB was given for the C: drive and it has run out of space so I cannot install service packs, extra software, etc. The remaining space is an F: drive with the "data" on it. What method should I use to extend the partition, I am thinking of just moving all of the F: drive to an external hard drive and then deleting the F: drive and trying to extend the partition in Windows Disk Manager, but I wonder if that will even work, or if there is a better tool out there to use to manage these partitions. I would like to preserve the Windows installation and everything on the C: drive if at all possible. I dont care if I have an F: drive, if I can just get a big enough C: drive, that will be fine.

I am trying to install the Print Management Console for Server 2003 R2 So far I have added the role of Print Server to the server. Discovered that the reason Print Management Console wasn't an option in the Admin Tools because you have to install it from Disk 2. Tried to install it and was told that the version of windows I was running wasnt the correct one for this update. Tried updating to R2 (how do you tell if the version your running is R2 or not?) but was told the version of Windows I was running is newer than the one on the disk. All I want is the PMC installed...
1) How do I tell whether I am already running R2 or not?
2) How do I get the PMC on this damn server?

WinExplorer displays the correct file in the correct folder, but install program cannot seem to locate same. Tried to install from HDD as well as O/S CD. I have installed XP on 100+ computers and never seen this Where in hell is NetMeeting Can't find it in XP, and don't get much of any answer from Help and Support

I tried to add the "peer-to-peer" networking option in the "Add/Remove Windows Components" option of the "add or remove programs" program in the control panel, but it won't let me; first of all, when I scroll down to the "Networking" option under the add/remove windows components, it is checked and yet greyed out.So I click on "details" where it lists the components available to install, and check "on" the peer-to-peer option, but when it goes to install it, it returns with an error of "an extended error has occurred". Gosh, so descriptive.

When I click on Add/Remove Windows Components, instead of the box coming up which lists all your Windows components, mine goes immediately to the install dialog as if I had already clicked through. It runs as if installing new components - finishes in a few sections and thats it. I searched online for a similar problem and fix but didnt find anything. I wondering if anyone had this or knows a way to fix it so the normal Windows Components Dialog Box pops up when It should

When trying to remove Windows Messenger, I made a mess of the Add/Remove Windows Components section of Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. Instructions are very confusing, as Windows tells you in order to add/remove the various components, either check or uncheck the box. Not knowing if I should check or uncheck, I tried both, and in the process removed numerous if not all the components.
I managed to get Internet Explorer and Outlook Express back. I honestly do not remember how I did this as I was in a panic state. Meanwhile, I lost MSPaint. And, I'm worried about the other components, like Indexing Service, Networking Services, etc. in order to reinstall components that may or may not be missing, do I simply CHECK the boxes, Accessories and Utilities is NOT checked. I'm assuming that's the reason for why MSPAINT disappeared.
