Instructions are very confusing, as Windows tells you in order to add/remove the various components, either check or uncheck the box. Not knowing if I should check or uncheck, I tried both, and in the process removed numerous if not all the components.
I managed to get Internet Explorer and Outlook Express back. I honestly do not remember how I did this as I was in a panic state. Meanwhile, I lost MSPaint. And, I'm worried about the other components, like Indexing Service, Networking Services, etc. in order to reinstall components that may or may not be missing, do I simply CHECK the boxes, Accessories and Utilities is NOT checked. I'm assuming that's the reason for why MSPAINT disappeared.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI uninstaled some windows components and it turns out that I need them and have not been able to reinstall them. I have been trying to reinstall the advanced features in my sounds and audio devices. Since I removed that feature when I play a DVD no my computer the sound will not get very loud. I am having no problem with other videos just DVD's. But I have also tried reinstalling games and other features and they will not install either.
When trying to install I use the Windows Installation CD and the installation seems to go fine. I don't get any error message, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I also tried the Add/Remove Programs feature in the control panel and got the same results.
When I try to add Fax Services as an XP Home SP 2 windows component in the add/remove control panel, I get a prompt for file fxsapi.dll. I can see the file in :WindowsService Pack Filesi386 but this setup routine says it can't find it even when I point it to it. After I hit retry many times I try the other solution it asks for- which is to insert the windows xp home service pack 2 CD-ROM. I do that and it says it can't find the file on the CD either. I've also tried removing MSN and it says it can't find certain files to remove MSN either. What is corrupted? Service Pack 2? I have 3 other XP computers and never had this problem before

When it loaded up I noticed that everything is taking 2x as long to load and it is taking long time to even get the start button list up. When I start up Windows XP SP2, I get an error message telling me that "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close." In addition iexplore.exe starts up in the task manager on every startup, without the browser launching and my baseline RAM usage is 80MB or so higher than normal. Now I have blocked iexplore.exe with my firewall, I have scanned my computer with Norton internet security 2007, Spybot S&D, Adaware SE and I have deleted the .exe file from which the infection originated. Unfortunately, though some minor infections were discovered, the problem at hand remains unresolved. MSConfig does not show anything about iexplore.exe opening up on startup., or any other program I do not want for that matter. I am at my wits end, and I hope someone here can figure out what I cannot....

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter uninstalling a number of suspect programs, I ran my anti stuff, AdAware SE, Ewido, Spybot, Ccleaner, AVG, Stinger, CWShredder and Housecall. Got rid of a lot of Trojans & spyware. There is still a suspect, something called DMVLite, cant seem to uninstall this one. Google search only led me to do an HJT log. Not to sure I want to do that.I also tried to uninstall a program called DVD Sentry, but it said the Windows Installer 3.1 was missing.
Maybe most important issue. Ran Belarc, said it is missing 40 critical updates ! There is a Windows Update Shield that says it has a download to install. KB888162,it detects if SP2 is properly installed, it is NOT.Wants me to uninstall SP2. When I go to uninstall, I get all these, cannot copy files.My question is, is it OK to click cancel on these cannot copy, since I cant seem to do anything else anyway.
