I was trying to remove windows messenger by going to control panel -> add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components I misread the directions for this windows XP setup box and made it so that only windows messenger had a checkmark because I thought this meant that only windows messenger would be modified removed unfortunately, this just meant windows messenger stayed the same and all the other components i had installed were removed. I know they are still on my computer since for accessories/games I can go to start -> run and type in something like "winmine" and minesweeper will open up, however if I go to the start menu and look in games it is empty

Ran across an interesting problem (NOTE: system description below) Went to add windows components in Win XP Pro... I tried to add the "peer-to-peer" networking option in the "Add/Remove Windows Components" option of the "add or remove programs" program in the control panel, but it won't let me; first of all, when I scroll down to the "Networking" option under the add/remove windows components, it is checked and yet greyed out.So I click on "details" where it lists the components available to install, and check "on" the peer-to-peer option, but when it goes to install it, it returns with an error of "an extended error has occurred". Gosh, so descriptive.
I went to "Control Panel", "Add or Remove Programs", "Add/Remove Windows Componets". Got a notice of "Windows XP Setup". Setup was unable to open information File 4. When I click on Add/Remove Windows Components, instead of the box coming up which lists all your Windows components, mine goes immediately to the install dialog as if I had already clicked through. It runs as if installing new components - finishes in a few sections and thats it. I searched online for a similar problem and fix but didnt find anything. I wondering if anyone had this or knows a way to fix it so the normal Windows Components Dialog Box pops up when It should
A while back I removed the calculator and paint programs from my computer and I've been trying to figure out how to restore them for some time now. I have found out that I need to go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components, but when I go to add them again, I get a prompt asking for my Windows XP disc. The problem is, when I purchased this computer, it didnt come with the install disc, Windows XP was already pre-installed. is there any way to Add the Windows components without the original install disc
When trying to remove Windows Messenger, I made a mess of the Add/Remove Windows Components section of Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. Instructions are very confusing, as Windows tells you in order to add/remove the various components, either check or uncheck the box. Not knowing if I should check or uncheck, I tried both, and in the process removed numerous if not all the components.
I managed to get Internet Explorer and Outlook Express back. I honestly do not remember how I did this as I was in a panic state. Meanwhile, I lost MSPaint. And, I'm worried about the other components, like Indexing Service, Networking Services, etc. in order to reinstall components that may or may not be missing, do I simply CHECK the boxes, Accessories and Utilities is NOT checked. I'm assuming that's the reason for why MSPAINT disappeared.
I am completely unable to generate ANY interest in this, and am baffled as to why, so maybe I can get some help here. how to actually get XP to recognize the checkboxes. As far as I can tell, this is display only(?). I'm trying to get it to work and suspect it may have something to do with the modes line in each INF

I uninstaled some windows components and it turns out that I need them and have not been able to reinstall them. I have been trying to reinstall the advanced features in my sounds and audio devices. Since I removed that feature when I play a DVD no my computer the sound will not get very loud. I am having no problem with other videos just DVD's. But I have also tried reinstalling games and other features and they will not install either. When trying to install I use the Windows Installation CD and the installation seems to go fine. I don't get any error message, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I also tried the Add/Remove Programs feature in the control panel and got the same results.
When I try to add Fax Services as an XP Home SP 2 windows component in the add/remove control panel, I get a prompt for file fxsapi.dll. I can see the file in :WindowsService Pack Filesi386 but this setup routine says it can't find it even when I point it to it. After I hit retry many times I try the other solution it asks for- which is to insert the windows xp home service pack 2 CD-ROM. I do that and it says it can't find the file on the CD either. I've also tried removing MSN and it says it can't find certain files to remove MSN either. What is corrupted? Service Pack 2? I have 3 other XP computers and never had this problem before
