Buying New System & Checking SAGE Compatibility ?

Mar 31, 2010

I am buying a new business computer to use SAGE and Photoshop CS4. The man in PC World said he didn't think SAGE would work with Windows 7 so recommended i buy a HP with XP built in for 580 with 22" monitor. The alternative is Acer Aspire x1301 and get a graphics card for it... Which should i go for to avoid problems with my programs working??

Checking System Configuration Message Appears At The Top

Jul 7, 2008

In the last couple of weeksI have been getting the following message:
"Please wait while checking system configuration" - in a pale blue box at startup. It sits on the top of all programs and will not turn off, even after a couple of hours, The rest of the operations work ok.

I have read an old thread on this in the forum, but it was never answered to my satisfaction, so I am asking again.

Install Home OEM: Buying A Cheaper Copy OEM?

Oct 18, 2007

I had to install new hard drive. The only way out now, is to install a brand new copy of XP Home or Professional.I do not need the box/manual etc so I thought I could buy a cheaper copy OEM. But when I went to Amazon it said the OEM was not for a consumer, only system builders. Can anyone explain what problems I might encounter if I installed a OEM version (as funds are very tight - OEM would help out a lot).Or does anyone know of a version of XP that you can buy without the box etc (just the CD), that is for a home user. One other question - will my motherboard except a new version of XP(does it know that I am changing the "Product Key" etc).

Virtual PC 2004 DOS Win3.1 The Sage Continues

Dec 6, 2008

I have hit another wall. Using W2K-Pro I installed VirtualPC 2004-SP1. I then installed DOS 6.22.I began the win3.1 install and at the end of the second disk when it launches win3.1-Setup and asks for a Name and Company the Virtual Machine hangs. No mouse, no blinking cursor.I can right-Alt to shut down the VM. OK, so I though it might be the USB mouse and keyboard so I shut it all down and plugged in a M$oft PS/2 mouse and keyboard. Same problem with the win3.1 install. Not to be beaten, I went to another PC also running W2K-Pro. Exact same issue with win3.1. Not be be beaten again, again I installed VPC-2004 on an XP-Pro, damn me, same again at the end of the win3.1 second diskette. I have tried installing DOS and win3.1 onto a 486 machine and it installs fine so I doubt it is a faulty diskette.

Unable To Set Compatibility

Mar 28, 2006

I'm currently running WinXP Pro (Build 2600) -- upgraded from Win 2000, and am unable to select different compatibility modes for programmes. It used to be that I could set it by right-clicking on the .exe of the programme I wanted to run under a different Win OS (Win 9x, NT etc.) and just click on the 'Compatibility' tab. That tab is no longer there.I also tried running the Compatibility Wizard (Start>All Programs>Accessories), but when that loads the buttons that should say 'Back', 'Next' and 'Exit' have no text on them. If I click the button that should say 'Exit' then the Wizard closes. However, clicking on either of the other two buttons does nothing so I am unable to go through the wizard. It's been several months since this happened, but I never really thought about it until recently because it wasn't until now that I wanted to put an old game on my system; but make no mistake, it's not just the game that won't do it, I can't set the compatibility for any program I have installed, or would want to install. System Restore doesn't go back far enough to try that, so I'm not sure what else to do. Possibly unrelated: At one point, I somehow managed to disable Task Manager; even manually replacing the file for it in the Windows directory didn't bring it back, although it did eventually return seemingly of its own accord. That may have been around the same time that I lost the compatibility ability, but I can't say for certain.

Printer Compatibility With XP

Jul 2, 2005

I have an OfficeJet 710, when I load something to scan, fax or copy the Document Manager box does not come up. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the printer but that doesn't help. I think my problem may be that when my computer was upgraded to Windows XP, they didn't include my printer therefore, it isn't compatible with my system.I can still copy, fax and print, but, only from the printer itself. Not from the Document Manager.

I use the computer for general stuff, day to day, like word processing, excel, and net surfing, nothing exotic or fast.

Don't Get Prompted For Sp3 - Compatibility Issues?

May 12, 2008

I have a laptop on wich I recently updated to SP3. I have had no problem what so ever, nore do I see any difference. I even have a D-Link wireless card and contrary to some saying it caused major problems after SP3, everything is working fine for me. I updated from SP2 to SP3 with Windows Update when prompted. Perhaps this is the key to possible problems. I read about people installing from a CD or iso image or downloading from whatever questionable website. Please do it the standard way and it should work ok. There seems to be a possible issue with AMD processors so try to get more info if you have this type of processor.

I still didn't install SP3 on my main computer at home and I don't quite understand why I don't even get prompted for it. But I can see it in Windows Update. I'll first test it on my laptop but unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to really fully test it because I have very few programs on it to check compatibility issues, compared to my main computer.
