View 1 RepliesMy nieces were playing Hercules on their older genetic computer when the monitor screen flipped. Now everything is upside down. We tried rebooting and only the initial intel logo is displayed correctly for a couple of seconds and then the windows screen comes on upside down. Any ideas on how to fix this? As I mentioned, it's an older unit with Windows XP installed.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have successfully created a USB installation routine for Windows XP using Multiboot.cmd. The problem i am having is that the installation works perfectly on evry machine i have tried it on apart from Dell machines.
It gets as far as Setup is Starting Windows (after loading in all the background drivers) and then Blue Screens with error 0x0000007b. I have scoured the internet and found nothing of any use on this error code.
It does state that when installing from USB to ensure that no other USB devices are plugged in but the mouse and keyboard themselves are USB devices.
I've got three exactly the same computers (HP and also all the components are identical). They came with new, unformatted, HD's. When I got them I formatted the HD's and installed Windows XP Professional (no SP) and everything worked fine.I now wanted to make a fresh start, so I formatted the HD's once again and installed Windows XP Professional (SP3). After this install I noticed that a number of devices weren't working. I checked the device manager and saw the audio device, ethernet port and video controller in the list, but with a yellow exclamation mark. It saw the devices, but it didn't install the drivers.
View 36 Replies View RelatedI hate to be redundant---especially on my first post---but I have just started having the same problem, whether I'm trying to view a .wmv file using Windows Media Playe (9, 10, or 11) or trying to watch a DVD using Intervideo WinDVD. I have the Mobile Intel 945GM chipset video drivers, but of course their website offers no kind of support about this. I have PLENTY of these "minidumps" to offer for someone's perusal if anyone would care to help a guy out? I'm stuck in a hotel for the next three days with no way to watch DVDs, and the bare network TV for entertainment.
View 8 Replies View RelatedNeeded to repair XP from my XP Home CD which went well - however I now get
"Please insert Compact Disc labeled 'Intel Corp Installation Disc #1 into your CD ROM drive (D), and then click Okay" as the system came preloaded with only the XP Home disc and searching the Web has not identified a site explaining what the file is or where I can download it, if at all possible.
Just curious to know details on this question. We are getting a 2nd DELL. The first one is as follows:
Wind. XP Home Ed.
Vers. 2002 SP2
Pent. (R) 4CPU 3000 GHz
2.99 GHz 512 MB of RAM
OUR newest computer is of course different in other ways, but instead of Intel Pent. 4 it is Intel Celeron.
I have a new HP m1070y media center computer that came with the OS already installed on it (XP media center edition 2005). I was looking at the system event log and I see scores of errors with the event ID of 7011. I could not find information that was detailed and specific enough to help me. Out of curiosity, I ran SFC /scannow to see if any clues would arise from that. When it got near the end of running it discovered a half-dozen DLL's that were missing that "may cause windows to not function correctly". No details were given as to what DLL's were missinng it simply asked for disc 2 of the XP Pro set. I do not have a XP Pro disc set because the OS and recovery partition are pre installed. I did not see any way to browse for the files that are missing. Is there an alternate way of replacing those missing files without having to purchase XP pro? Perhaps the DLL's are missing by design since the removal of of domain capabilities in MCE2005? Are there other utilities that can pin-point exactly which files are missing so that I can replace them manually?
View 17 Replies View Relatedhello fellow CNET members, I am in a fix.I have a Dell Dimension E510 running on Media Center Edition 2005. I also have a certificate of authenticity with the XP key on it. This past thursday, I restarted my computer, and it gave me the good ole Windows did not start correctly and gave me an option to start in Last Known Good Config, Normal, or Safe Mode(s). I entered Last Known Good Config, and then it restarted, and then it came up again. It seems I cannot boot into the OS at all. I have been on my old WinME(!) system looking up solutions, and some, if not all of the suggestions have been to Repair it, etc. However cheap ole Dell has not provided me with a XP CD, and I am unable to access the i386 files in the systems. Boot Disks will work, however they only setup the system for a CD install. The BIOS is fine, i believe, as a Ubuntu CD will work fine. There are some vital files that are on that hard drive, and i can't access them. All the other computers I have are not as updated as the E510, so the SATA hard drive will not connect to the ATA motherboard (Dimension 4100)as a slave.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIn the past I used to just copy my stuff and then when Windows went up, you know slows down, get's corrupted somewhere, etc. I would reinstall windows and then my drives, apps, programs, files, etc. Upon my studies I learned that the default Windows backup could do these things as well as recover system state. Well I started doing backups every so often on my home PC and my server at work.
The other day I actually needed to use it as my PC had this weird issue of clicking on icon executables and not ever running them. It would refuse to start programs from the executable in the folder under program files, under start menu, or command line. It wouldn't give an error it would just click and go away. it would do it once the computer was on for a while and for a week or two I just would reboot, but I mean come on, that's a little annoying.
Just recently, I noticed my computer acting a little slow than normal so I went to check my task manager. I found out that my total physical memory was "halved". I have 1GB of RAM installed but the task manager only shows half of it, 512MB. I went to check msinfo and it showed that I had 1GB of RAM installed. This problem occurs on a somewhat random basis, sometimes it shows I have 1GB of RAM installed sometimes not. In some applications like CCleaner, it also reflects the same RAM info as my task manager.Any permanent workaround for this problem? Or is this a hardware fault? When this problem occurs, my pc is not making full use of my 1GB of ram, hence the sluggish performance I noticed as of late. Below are screenshots to illustrate what I mean.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm going to be building a new system in a few weeks and I am debating as to whether I should install XP-64 as the OS or (shudder) finally buy Vista. When I built my last computer a few years ago I bought a student copy of Windows XP Pro that came with both the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version (different CD's / keys). At the time there were no 64-bit drivers available for some of my hardware so I just used 32-bit XP and the 64-bit version has been sitting on my shelf unused ever since. Now it appears that the driver situation with regards to XP-64 is much better although I have heard that there are still some issues with certain hardware and programs.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a client whose computer has stopped reacting to "alt-tab" hot key (ie. switching between screens).Let's say you are in IE (any app does the same)Currently, if you hold down Alt (like you are getting ready to hit tab), it will highlight the File option from the menu screen. It acts just like it would if you clicked on "Alt" once. If you hit "Alt-Tab" it doesn't do anything different.Things we have done:
1. Tried using the other alt button - same thing
2. Tried installing MS Power Tool for Alt-Tab - same problem
3. Tried installing an app called Alt-Tab Thingy - this was interesting but I didn't catch the full message. It said something like Hot-Keys not enabled or cannot access Hot-Keys.
4. Reboot - same problem..Since then, we have uninstalled the Alt-Tab Thing application and are still stuck with this strange issue.
