I just installed XP on my Toshiba A60 Laptop and I am getting no sound or battery meter. When I look at my device manager under 'Other Devices' there is Multimedia Audio Controller, PCI Modem and SM Bus Controller which all need drivers.
View 14 RepliesI recently bought an xp home edition disc and did a fresh install on my computer because my old installation that came with my Packard Bell iMedia got completely messed up over time Anyway, I have now no drivers for anything. I downloaded the correct nvidia driver, which was easy to locate and which fixed numerous problems. However, windows doesnt ever know the logitech speakers are there.

No sound is obvious but video controller is not. Video seems okay. Where do I find drivers for this machine. XP Pro, Home and MCE are different OS's ... as far as my experience. The drivers are not the same.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have successfully created a USB installation routine for Windows XP using Multiboot.cmd. The problem i am having is that the installation works perfectly on evry machine i have tried it on apart from Dell machines.
It gets as far as Setup is Starting Windows (after loading in all the background drivers) and then Blue Screens with error 0x0000007b. I have scoured the internet and found nothing of any use on this error code.
It does state that when installing from USB to ensure that no other USB devices are plugged in but the mouse and keyboard themselves are USB devices.
I've got three exactly the same computers (HP and also all the components are identical). They came with new, unformatted, HD's. When I got them I formatted the HD's and installed Windows XP Professional (no SP) and everything worked fine.I now wanted to make a fresh start, so I formatted the HD's once again and installed Windows XP Professional (SP3). After this install I noticed that a number of devices weren't working. I checked the device manager and saw the audio device, ethernet port and video controller in the list, but with a yellow exclamation mark. It saw the devices, but it didn't install the drivers.

I was reading through this networking textbook about operating systems and I just found out that a computer can have more than one operating system. I have Windows XP installed through the Data Drivers Recovery CD and that's all I got related to my computer OS WINXP. If I wanted to install Windows XP to another computer that had Windows Vista, with that CD, is it possible, even though it says Data Drivers Recovery CD? Or do I need the actual Installation of WINDOWS XP (and other OS'S?).

He tried the recovery console himself and im not sure what he did but upon starting the computer up xp immediately jumps into "reinstalling windows" at the install stage. It gets down to 33 minutes and the computer restarts and repeats the whole process. I cant format the drive as theres important work on it and im not going to be able to take my computer home till next weekend. I was hoping someone could offer an alternative solution to a format?

Now, when I try installing a HP printer the installation CD does not work but when I try it on my laptop it does work. Could it be the norton blocking the CD installation? Except when it stopped running during install. it did this about 5 times. Then after, I plugged them in and get no sound. In the device manager under the legacy audio cards and codecs, it says "This device is working properly", but through the control panel under sounds and audio devices, it says there are no audio devices detected.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was running System Mechanic as a routine - (i.e. not a virus, or spyware problem), and Windows XP decided it wanted to do an install of some service pack automatically - which it did an auto reboot in the middle of SM running! Grrr...system froze when it came back up. I came back to just see the frozen screen and SM screen closed - and it ookedrebooted. Now when the computer is turned on in safe mode or regular, it just does a DOS listing of missing drivers - very extensive list. Got a CD hard copy of System Mechanic - but now am told if I use it to rescue the computer, it will delete my files! Yikes!My computer, Xplio, came with Windows installed. The rescue disk, if I can find it, (may be in storage) I believe also says it deletes files if used...one reason I didn't keep it out and easily found. 1. How do I save / rescue my files???? I have many years of nonprofit work on the computer I don't want to lose. 2. Can the computer be "saved"? 3. Is there a way to use someone else's Windows XP disks with their passwords (legitimate copy) on my computer to reinstall the missing drivers? OR - can all the drivers be downloaded from somewhere - ideally for free? View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got this old mobo Abit VT7. I want to install XP on it. However, the XP disc doesn't recognize SATA hard drives. So I downloaded official SATA driver from the Abit website http://tinyurl.com/kua5qz and tries to slipstream my XP disc following the instructions set forth here http://tinyurl.com/37anvn . I am not too clear how to incorporate the drivers from the official drivers, but Nlite seems to be able to find the drivers once I pointed it to the top unzipped driver directory, and I selected the XP folder for it. However, the newly created XP disc still fails to recognize the SATA hard drives. Alternatively, I believe I could have a boot floppy which would load the drivers in, then I launch the setup in the XP installation CD via command line. But I don't know how to create a boot disc which has those SATA drivers in.
