A friends HP Media Center PC m7077c crashed. Had no recover disk, etc. Installed XP Pro SP2 and I need drivers (according to Device Manager). No sound is obvious but video controller is not. Video seems okay. Where do I find drivers for this machine. XP Pro, Home and MCE are different OS's ... as far as my experience. The drivers are not the same.

It crashes. I will not list all the BSOD - but XP doesn't like something.I have no devices connected apart from basic graphics card (which XP loaded the drivers for okay). I am waiting for XP Pro to be delivered, so I am hoping that my unstable XP will become stable after I upgrade (or full installation) of a retail version.
Prior to installing my current XP (one time of at least 30 others - as kept crashing),I tried to load my motherboard drivers from the disk my manufacture supplied.is it possible that my XP Home is unstable BECAUSE I do not have my motherboard drivers loaded? That might seem a naive question - but I honestly do not know, and I've started to become a tad paranoid as these problems have been ongoing for 5 weeks.
I was running System Mechanic as a routine - (i.e. not a virus, or spyware problem), and Windows XP decided it wanted to do an install of some service pack automatically - which it did an auto reboot in the middle of SM running! Grrr...system froze when it came back up. I came back to just see the frozen screen and SM screen closed - and it ookedrebooted. Now when the computer is turned on in safe mode or regular, it just does a DOS listing of missing drivers - very extensive list. Got a CD hard copy of System Mechanic - but now am told if I use it to rescue the computer, it will delete my files! Yikes!My computer, Xplio, came with Windows installed. The rescue disk, if I can find it, (may be in storage) I believe also says it deletes files if used...one reason I didn't keep it out and easily found. 1. How do I save / rescue my files???? I have many years of nonprofit work on the computer I don't want to lose. 2. Can the computer be "saved"? 3. Is there a way to use someone else's Windows XP disks with their passwords (legitimate copy) on my computer to reinstall the missing drivers? OR - can all the drivers be downloaded from somewhere - ideally for free? I can prove I have/ had legitimate right to Windows XP - I noticed Microsoft charges for tech support - guess I am naive - was surprised it would charge for first call ever!

View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows XP. I'm on a laptop running XP, with a monitor designed for 1920x1200. I use a Geforce Go 6800 graphics card. Recently whilst playing a game (Football Manager 2007 if it matters?!) the game crashed, and it went to desktop. The icons/etc on the desktop were noticeably enlarged. I did an online test and found my resolution had swapped to 1536x960. checking display, properties, settings, or whatever it is, it still says i'm in 1920x1200. I've had this problem before, the last time I had it, I uninstalled my windows monitor driver and it automatically fixed it. I've done this several times, and uninstalled/reinstalled the nvidia geforce drivers (from my dell CD) once or twice as well and it hasnt fixed it at all.

When useing the Add Hardware Wizard the following message is returned :- "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" and "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software".

When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... AGAIN! I need help urgently as im going to a LAN gaming comp called "rezidue" and its on in 2 weeks, i need my pc fixed by then! All these problems started when i upgraded my CPU. Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me. My entire system is as follows (incase it can help someone help me) P4 3.0ghz HT CPU, Microstar P4 motherboard, 128mb Nvidia Geforce mx4000 AGP x8 graphics card, 256MB ddr ram (recently brought new 1GB ddr ram off ebay just for rezidue! should be here soon!) After installing all the drivers including the video card drivers from ATI's website the computer discovered an "unknown device on ATI Radeon X700"The motherboard is a gigabyte 8I865GME-775-RH and obviously a X700 Radeon Video Card. AGP drivers, chipset drivers and the like are all installed. The video card showed up as an unknown device when I first installed, I put in the catalyst drivers and it detected successfully, upon reboot this new unknown device came up and I can not seem to find any drivers for the thing. I tried reinstalling the catalyst drivers as well to no avail.

It originally came with vista (and indeed he gave me the recovery discs that would put it back if I wanted toBut I'm trying to install Windows XP instead. I seem to have managed to get all other drivers installed. From googling apparently it's the audio and video drivers that most people have problems with.
Is there anybody who can tell how I can add a driver so that windows Xp recognize this and does a unattended installation of the hardware device (a example is a USB mouse) But the Windows XP is alreay installed so, I am not really looking for a sysprep solution?

the Windows Installer screen opens telling me it is trying to install a program that is already installed,(usually driver for HP 4110 printer drivers). If I don't cancel it immediately, eventually an error screen appears telling me the file I'm seeking is not available and to insert the installation CD. I've tried re-installing the drivers by inserting the CD, but then an error message appears saying the drivers are already installed. This is getting frustrating?

It does same with safe mode.I'm not sure, but I think it is caused by display driver I tryied to install. I got a nVidia 8600GT-m card, and nVidia doesn't provide official driver for it, it must come from the vendor or I need to use modified driver. The driver that came from the vendor didn't support some of the openGL functions and gave error when I tried to run stuff on higher resolution

I also enabled it using my backup software but it is still not recognised. Any sudgestions?? I used to have both Nero and Instant CD/DVD installed. It's blank except for one folder - WINXP. It's easy to remove each time, but how can I get this page or whatever it is, to take a hike and get lost, so that just the desktop icons are visible? And now, my comp looks like it went back to the dark ages (ie: Win98). Programs wont start, i cant view pics, drivers are missing, i cant connect to the internet, no sound. I'm REALLY stumped and i've tried everything i can to correct the problem, but alas, no hope.I'm hoping someone here might know what to do. Oh, also, my comp is custom built, so i wasnt sure if i could call Dell, or whatever. Anyway, im hoping someone has insight into my problem.
