Well, I just recently installed XP clean on a friends computer, and While doing so I had no speakers connected to the computer. Then after, I plugged them in and get no sound. In the device manager under the legacy audio cards and codecs, it says "This device is working properly", but through the control panel under sounds and audio devices, it says there are no audio devices detected.
View 14 RepliesI wanted to do a fresh install of Xp pro on a hard drive i had laying around. I ran the disk. Deleted all the old stuff on hard drive. the disk seemed to run normally. Except when it stopped running during install. it did this about 5 times. View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed a clean win xp professional OS on a new rig (quad processor), no issues. Then I did a Acronis recovery from a uniprocessor pc, and installed the correct mobo drivers. Still no issues. The I did a restart and a repair install to load the mobo sata and AHCI drivers. The pc restarts, but everytime I open a program from windows, for example Windows Explorer, or Software from the configuration screen, or Network Connections, I get a window with "Windows Installer", waiting for something to load. The version of windows on my old pc is sp3, after the repair install (I used a win xp slipstreamed with sp2), I see sp2 on my info screen of computer properties.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a new desktop, 3 yrs ago, with Windows XP Pro installed from the factory, and of course it was an OEM version, as usual.The com has a MSI Intel 848P Neo Mother board which I have changed 2 times before on warranty. Now I had to change it again, due to one PCI slot was dead. So far everything was ok.But, to activate the OS was now a "plenty big" problem.
Somehow the technician managed to do it at his own place. Suddenly, I was going to download a plug-in program to my Microsoft Publisher 2002, of course validation was required. No problem - I had done that several times during the last 3 yeras and everything has been ok. But not this time. Validation failed, Microsoft announced. "The Office XP Pro has to be activated, start any Office program, go to Help activate product" - No problem, easy job.
I have been trying to clen up an old computer to give away. It is a 2002-vintage desktop with 512MB ram. I tried several times to reformat and reinstall xp, but I have only succeeded in removing the operating system and reformating both the hard drives. I have the OEM xp disk that came with it but I have tried 15 times to install xp and I can't. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

He took it home tonight because its being playing up over the past week and yesterday it refused to boot xp. He tried the recovery console himself and im not sure what he did but upon starting the computer up xp immediately jumps into "reinstalling windows" at the install stage. It gets down to 33 minutes and the computer restarts and repeats the whole process. I cant format the drive as theres important work on it and im not going to be able to take my computer home till next weekend. I was hoping someone could offer an alternative solution to a format?

Now, when I try installing a HP printer the installation CD does not work but when I try it on my laptop it does work. Could it be the norton blocking the CD installation? View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got this old mobo Abit VT7. I want to install XP on it. However, the XP disc doesn't recognize SATA hard drives. So I downloaded official SATA driver from the Abit website http://tinyurl.com/kua5qz and tries to slipstream my XP disc following the instructions set forth here http://tinyurl.com/37anvn . I am not too clear how to incorporate the drivers from the official drivers, but Nlite seems to be able to find the drivers once I pointed it to the top unzipped driver directory, and I selected the XP folder for it. However, the newly created XP disc still fails to recognize the SATA hard drives. Alternatively, I believe I could have a boot floppy which would load the drivers in, then I launch the setup in the XP installation CD via command line. But I don't know how to create a boot disc which has those SATA drivers in.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI got that HP pavilion 503x that needs a fresh install of windows. it was running on xp home edition and i want to go with xp pro.my problem is that when i put in my xp pro cd (that i have used several times on other pcs) it reads it but doesnt boot it and goes directly to HP reinsatallation system for PC. I have like 8 cds for HP xp home installation. when i put in the disc 1, it reads it and boots it normally but the cds appears to be corrupted and at somee point the installation will crash. i havee tried copying the cd on a clean one but it doesnt see whats on it, it doesnt read it and keep ejecting the cd out. im confused, its the first time its happen, and i dont get it.
my winxp cd works perfectly fine on my other computer.its like the computer wont read anything but the HP cds.

I lost my sound and when I look at my device manager i see a little yellow flag by my multi media controller. If I try to Upgrade the driver I get the blue screen of death. I tried to reistall my origanial operating system, from my 8 recovery disks it won't let me. I trie booting from it and it won't let me. It sez I'm missing (windowsroot) system32hal.dll.
