I need to install Windows XP on a laptop (Dell Latitude CPx H500GT) but I don't have the CD modular drive for it.How do I install XP with no built-in CD-ROM drive? The only other options I have is a ethernet PC card, one USB port and I do have a USB enclosure (for use with 3.5 hard drives or 5.25 cd/dvd drives)

I tried several times to reformat and reinstall xp, but I have only succeeded in removing the operating system and reformating both the hard drives. I have the OEM xp disk that came with it but I have tried 15 times to install xp and I can't. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Pressed F6 and installed sata drivers for the mobo etc. Now i hasten to add that i have tried this 3 times now, set up runs smoothly windows installs however when i have finished windows will only boot up with the CD in the CDROM. Been into Bios and changed boot sequence but still if no CD it just gets to boot from cd in the boot up screen and> stops, put the disk in and windows boots straight up and away we go.

I lost my sound and when I look at my device manager i see a little yellow flag by my multi media controller. If I try to Upgrade the driver I get the blue screen of death. I even have the original Windows XP license key number printed on a label on the side of my computer.the one thing that I do not have is the Windows XP installation disk.What is the best way to resolve this?I have seen XP disks for sale on ebay craigslist. Can I purchase one of those and install it on my old computer? If I do that should I get a new license key from them or do I use my old one.

I get to the part where the screen is supposed to offer repair.My screen comes up showing partitions on the drive.It also says unknown disk but it lists the c: drive with 76246 MB and two other partitions.It just gives me the option to setup windows xp on the selected item or to select a different partition or delete a partition.I'm not getting the screen shown in the sticky.When i hit enter on the large partition it warned about installing two Operating System on the drive.Afraid to go farther,hoping I can save the files on the hard drive.

My hard drive recently crashed and I reinstalled windows xp, the copy i brought with the product key turns out to me fake or blacklisted by Microsoft, the problem is i scanned the disc used for installation and it contain more than a few adware programs and viruses. My PC is operating noticeably slower than before the crash, I scanned my RAM with MemTest. There is also a couple adware programs that comes up in processes, only bitdefender blocks it from popping up when using the internet. Also my Primary IDE channel is using PIO Mode instead of DMA, ive heard this can be because of viruses, should I reinstall windows?Could this mean the windows has been modified and what should i do?

Now I had to change it again, due to one PCI slot was dead. So far everything was ok.But, to activate the OS was now a "plenty big" problem.
Somehow the technician managed to do it at his own place. Suddenly, I was going to download a plug-in program to my Microsoft Publisher 2002, of course validation was required. No problem - I had done that several times during the last 3 yeras and everything has been ok. But not this time. Validation failed, Microsoft announced. "The Office XP Pro has to be activated, start any Office program, go to Help activate product" - No problem, easy job.
I bought my mom a used computer with Windows XP. If it ever gets messed up I won't be able to reinstall Windows since the computer didn't come with any disks. Is there any way to make a backup copy of Windows XP in the event that I ever need to reinstall it for her? Also, we don't have the administrator password for the computer that was set by the previous owner.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIm planning a spring clean and of my hard drive including a re-installation of XP by creating a Bart PE disk,slipstreaming it with SP3, critical updates and my current drivers.At the moment my My Documents folder and sub-folders are on a completely separate HD so I shouldnt really need to touch those.I carry out regular backs of both drives to an external drive using Acronis True Image.When I re-install XP it will obviously recreate a My Documentsfolder of its own. How do I go about pointing Windows to my existing My Docs folder on the separate drive? I moved it originally by clicking on MOVE in PROPERTIES on My Docs in the START MENU, but if I use this method this time I will just end up with 2 My Docs on the second drive.

i have 2 HDD one with the os and the other one for data.I reformatted my data drive by deleting and re-creating partition via windows xp boot cd. Afterwards it went through the whole windows instillation thing.How can i reformat this drive without installing windows xp afterwards?
