i have 2 HDD one with the os and the other one for data.I reformatted my data drive by deleting and re-creating partition via windows xp boot cd. Afterwards it went through the whole windows instillation thing.How can i reformat this drive without installing windows xp afterwards?
View 2 RepliesI've got this old mobo Abit VT7. I want to install XP on it. However, the XP disc doesn't recognize SATA hard drives. So I downloaded official SATA driver from the Abit website http://tinyurl.com/kua5qz and tries to slipstream my XP disc following the instructions set forth here http://tinyurl.com/37anvn . I am not too clear how to incorporate the drivers from the official drivers, but Nlite seems to be able to find the drivers once I pointed it to the top unzipped driver directory, and I selected the XP folder for it. However, the newly created XP disc still fails to recognize the SATA hard drives. Alternatively, I believe I could have a boot floppy which would load the drivers in, then I launch the setup in the XP installation CD via command line. But I don't know how to create a boot disc which has those SATA drivers in.

I have 9 folders and a few tiny files on C: and very few programs installed.If I add the sizes of 9 folders (Windows-3.09 GB Program files-1GB) I only get about 5GB.What or where might the other 4 GB be?

View 9 Replies View Relatedi am reinstalling windows on a new partition of a new drive and I have several harddrives. when I boot from the windows xp setup cd and it lists all the drives, the one i want to install windows on is currently listed as drive G, but I want it to become drive C. If I just select to install on drive G will it change it to drive C? or do i have to do the thing where I unplug all the drives except the one I want and do the install and then plug the other ones back in afterwards? (i'm reinstalling bc i tried it before and windows ended up on the current drive G, which used to be drive J bc I forgot to unplug some usb devices..)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a RAID system setup as JBOD on both drive in my laptop and I formatted using DBAN... Now i boot with Windows XP Pro so i can install it and it only recognizes one of my drives. I loaded my RAID drivers. I go ahead and try to install XP on it anyway. I tried to format the drive again using FULL format, i tried a Quick Format, and I also tried leaving it as is. It will install the setup files and reboot my computer. So i take out the XP disc but then it doesnt recognize any disks. Does anyone know how i can reintsall xP back on this sysetm or how I can get XP to recognize both my drives even if i slipstreamed my RAID drivers in it already.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty computer savvy, but I've always struggled to confugure this RAID motherboard, but I've never encountered an error like this. I formatted a 60Gb Maxtor D740X-6L IDE drive with NTFS through an external harddrive connected to a laptop. THe drive is now blank. I connected this as a master on Channel 3 IDE on my Abit KG7 RAID mother board. I also connected my CD Writer to IDE channel 2 as a master, with a copy of WIndows XP in it. (I connected it like this because it doesn't recognise my harddrive on Channel 1 or 2 on the first page.)
When I try to boot I get the following error: BOOTMGR is missing. The strange thing is, as it boots it lists all four drive channels, and only shows Primary Master: 6L060J3 (presumably IDE channel 1). It does not show my CD writer, and infact the drive is connected to IDE channel 3. As you can see in attached photo1........
Read that i might have update the bios on my emchine 533id2 if i wanted to install windows xp.

My computer was running smoothly that time with 2 hard disk's.I formatted my PC and installed windows xp.While installing windows xp i didn't connect my 80Gb hard disk.But after installation, when i tried to connect it , my computer started hanging.160Gb is my primary hdd and 80gb is secondary hard disk.I never had any OS on 80Gb. My computer hangs at windows xp boot screen.I tried at my friend's place also... tried all jumper settings also but no use. What could be the problem?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIm planning a spring clean and of my hard drive including a re-installation of XP by creating a Bart PE disk,slipstreaming it with SP3, critical updates and my current drivers.At the moment my My Documents folder and sub-folders are on a completely separate HD so I shouldnt really need to touch those.I carry out regular backs of both drives to an external drive using Acronis True Image.When I re-install XP it will obviously recreate a My Documentsfolder of its own. How do I go about pointing Windows to my existing My Docs folder on the separate drive? I moved it originally by clicking on MOVE in PROPERTIES on My Docs in the START MENU, but if I use this method this time I will just end up with 2 My Docs on the second drive.

I get to the part where the screen is supposed to offer repair.My screen comes up showing partitions on the drive.It also says unknown disk but it lists the c: drive with 76246 MB and two other partitions.It just gives me the option to setup windows xp on the selected item or to select a different partition or delete a partition.I'm not getting the screen shown in the sticky.When i hit enter on the large partition it warned about installing two Operating System on the drive.Afraid to go farther,hoping I can save the files on the hard drive.

According to Microsoft.com, I have to install the driver for my monitor. I can easilly re-download the driver from the Dell website, but for some reason my computer won't let me go to Monitor settings. In order to install the monitor's driver I need to access this. I have a Compaq Armada E500 laptop, 4GB, 2.81 GB of used space, 1.18 GB of free space, running on "Windows 2000 Professional" ("Built on NT technology"). I'm having problems downloading certain softwares, it seems "Windows 2000 Professional" just doesn't let me do it. Plus, I've found there's other things I just can't do with it. I've been told Windows 98 is the best way to go for me + it'll free up some more space (you can see my laptop has very little space) + it'll let me download the softwares I need with no problem.
