Installing On RAID System - Recognizes One Drives
May 17, 2007
I have a RAID system setup as JBOD on both drive in my laptop and I formatted using DBAN... Now i boot with Windows XP Pro so i can install it and it only recognizes one of my drives. I loaded my RAID drivers. I go ahead and try to install XP on it anyway. I tried to format the drive again using FULL format, i tried a Quick Format, and I also tried leaving it as is. It will install the setup files and reboot my computer. So i take out the XP disc but then it doesnt recognize any disks. Does anyone know how i can reintsall xP back on this sysetm or how I can get XP to recognize both my drives even if i slipstreamed my RAID drivers in it already.

i am reinstalling windows on a new partition of a new drive and I have several harddrives. when I boot from the windows xp setup cd and it lists all the drives, the one i want to install windows on is currently listed as drive G, but I want it to become drive C. If I just select to install on drive G will it change it to drive C? or do i have to do the thing where I unplug all the drives except the one I want and do the install and then plug the other ones back in afterwards? (i'm reinstalling bc i tried it before and windows ended up on the current drive G, which used to be drive J bc I forgot to unplug some usb devices..)

my daughters computer needs to have windows xp pro reinstalled. the computer used to have a raid setup but when one of the hard drives started to fail she brought it to the computer shop and they disconnected the raid and told her the drives were separated but not to put anything important on the one drive as its not so good. so last night we tried to reinstall windows . It came to can not read drive F. Options were fail, abort or retry. Nothing worked. so she called the the computer shop and they said it was because of the raid thing when. So they told her to go to gateway sight and put a program called serial ata on a disk and install it to her computer...

I'm pretty computer savvy, but I've always struggled to confugure this RAID motherboard, but I've never encountered an error like this. I formatted a 60Gb Maxtor D740X-6L IDE drive with NTFS through an external harddrive connected to a laptop. THe drive is now blank. I connected this as a master on Channel 3 IDE on my Abit KG7 RAID mother board. I also connected my CD Writer to IDE channel 2 as a master, with a copy of WIndows XP in it. (I connected it like this because it doesn't recognise my harddrive on Channel 1 or 2 on the first page.)
When I try to boot I get the following error: BOOTMGR is missing. The strange thing is, as it boots it lists all four drive channels, and only shows Primary Master: 6L060J3 (presumably IDE channel 1). It does not show my CD writer, and infact the drive is connected to IDE channel 3. As you can see in attached photo1........

My computer came preinstalled with a whole bunch of HP garbage I didn't want.. So I bought a copy of WINxp pro and tried to install.. Upon doing this It couldn't read my hard drive, which I later determined was due to the fact it is a SATA hard drive and the XP install cd doesnt have the drivers for it. Solution was, I changed a setting in my computer's BIOS to change the raid mode to IDE instead of SATA, then the install proccess went fine. Problem is now I have to keep it at IDE, and if I turn it back to SATA the computer retstarts after the Starting Windows screen with the Windows icon, I assume this is due to the fact that Windows didn't bother installing any SATA drivers since I installed in IDE mode... Could somone please point me in the right direction as to what I need to install/configure to allow WIN to boot up with my BIOS using SATA mode?

For the past few weeks, windows has been only recognizing half (256mb) of my total 512mb of ram. Something that makes this problem even more peculiar is that third party tools such as cpu-z and speedfan see the full 512mb, but the system properties and dxdiag both say 256mb. The bios also says 512mb, dual channel mode. I can also make any information about this system that anyone needs to help me with this.

I tried install Windows XP on to this machine for a dual boot, but unfortunately that doesn't appear like it's working... I used nLite to put the RAID drivers onto the installation CD, and here is the problem I am having:The system says "Press any key to boot from CD doThe system then says "Please wait while checking system configuration" or something to that effect. The screen then turns black, my CD drive no longer shows the read LED, and nothing happens indefinitely.I have been able to install Ubuntu on to this computer, and all works well, but whenever I try to use XP, either the original disk or the one with the drivers put on it, it will not boot. I have looked at my BIOS and no settings are off, they all appear normal to me.

I've this habit of installing softwares on different drives. The OS goes into C drive. Any other softwares that are from trustworthy sources goes into C drive along with the OS. I then install all the games, other softwares from not so trustworthy sources or any new programs I'm trying(like a typing tutor) in D drive. I keep E drive for storage purpose. This is my arrangement for my computer and on all of my friends computers on which I installed the Windows.
I thought it would help keep the OS safe(!) and reinstalling or upgrading would be easy and I don't have to reinstall all the softwares I installed. Am I right in that? What are these dll files. For any software I installed whether in C drive or D drive there seems to be a dll file in the C drive. 1) Does it really matter where I install the softwares(apart from the OS) or does having a seperate drive (usually D drive) for installing 3rd party softwares makes any sense?
2) Do I really have to install all the softwares (installed on D drive) again if I format and reinstall OS in C drive?

I purchased a SIIG PCI firmware adapter. It has no drivers and says that it will use Win XP drivers. Well I installed the board and booted the pc, Win XP
recognized the hardware but could not find any drivers. I tried unplugging it manually, installing it in another card slot with no luck. I took it back to
my pc dealer and he plugged it in his system and had no problems. I decide to try another brand, an IO Gear GIC1394.

My initial installation went without a hitch, until I noticed that my 200G drive was registering at 137G. Through some investigation I found that this was because I installed XP, then later added the SP2. I was able to partition and use the "unallocated portion of the drive" but would like to consolidate the drive.
These leads me to the questions I have...
1) How can I install XP Pro on a system with a 200G system drive and get it to reckognize the full disk size, even though I need to download the SP2?
2) Is there a way to get Windows XP with SP2 included at a reduced price from MS if we return the copy we have?
3) If I decide to set up a RAID system, and am using three 200G drives, will XP only reckognize them as 137G each until I install SP2?

My operating system is Windows XP Pro. As of yesterday all was fine, I even burned a DVD. Today "My Computer" isn't even showing my DVD/CD recorder, only showing Drive A: 3.5 Floppy. It started when I downloaded (I think) WindowsBlinds, just wanted to do some color changes. Well when I installed it, Norton came up with a Trojan. Norton Quarantined or deleted it and said no more further actions required. The install finished (windowblinds) and I tried a couple different skins and decided to uninstall it. Uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller

It's looking like I have to re-install C+XP Pro SP2. I have never installed XP Pro SP2 before myself on SATA drives - I know that you used to have to get the hard disc drivers from somewhere first so you could use them in the set up process. I've never done this either! Is this still an issue with XP SP2 (I have a full install Windows XP Pro SP2 CD). If so, could someone outline the details for me or point me in the right direction web wise.

I re-installed XP after having a mal-ware/spy-ware issue. The problem is my machine no longer recognizes my DVD players properly.
Both work working fine prior to the re-install. Now neither will recognize a CD-ROM (I have enabled CD-recording) and neither will burn a DVD. Further, one of them is listed under Explorer as a CD-ROM rather than a DVD-ROM.
I have tried delete both from device manager and having XP reinstall them on start up but no luck.

I have tried replacing the power supply-no change.I've tried unhooking cd-rom, floppy, replace ram & everything remains unchanged.Bios never recognizes a hard drive. I've tried several known good hard drives and the original hard drive works in another machine. It starts POST & I get HP splash then back to NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND, It doesn't find the CD rom drive either. What might this be related to? I've replace hard drive cable, floppy cable. The only cable I haven't replaced it the cd-rom drive.
The hard drive works as a slave in another computer. I am running virus scan and spyware on. But, why won't it work in the other computer? I'm thinking its somehow related to the bios and the fact that it cannot see the drive in the bios. I don't find anywhere in this particular bios where I can try to auto recognize the drives

I'm new to Linux and have been using SUse 9.2 and XP systems. Hard drive set up was as follows: Swap (502MB);C drive;Linux (4 Gig);E drive (contained XP OS). Using 37 Gig Drive, Athlon 800 mhz CPU. I used PartionMagic in Windows to set up the partitions and had BootMagic disabled and all worked well. System would boot to Grub and then from there I could go to Windows XP boot. Linux partion was my active partition. Everything ran just fine...but I wasnt using Linux often and decided to try to boot directly to XP.
I decided to make my Windows OS drive E active so that I could boot directly to Windows boot instead of Grub. But, obviously, Grub still booted first. I made the mistake, then, by enabling BootMagic in the hopes I could get to Windows directly without going through Grub. Well BootMagic hid my C:Drive which was viewable simultaneously with E:drive (which contained XP OS, another setup mistake I made when partitioning...but still worked). As a result Grub is gone and I also cannot boot to XP or Linus, even after trying to activate C:drive or activating E:drive containing my XP OS. I'm pretty sure that XP recognizes C:drive as home, even though OS is on E. I have not yet used 'fixmbr' for fear of loosing data contained in C and E partitions. I've considered using spare hard drive as a new boot drive and access files from original hard drive, save them, and then start from scratch with XP....

My laptop doesn't detect the external hard drive. It is strange that sometime the laptop can detect the external hard drive, but most of the time it doesn't.
I have tested 2 different external hard drive and both of them are not detected by the laptop too. When I tried it on other computer, both external cases work perfectly. I am not sure is it because of the usb driver is corrupted or what, but any helps is much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm running a pc with a 975xbx board and an e6600 that has worked fine for 2 years plus. A couple months ago i replaced my computer case, power supply, and got some new storage hard drives, but my RAM, mobo, cpu, and optical drives stayed the same.I was running windows xp fine for this whole time....and then a couple days ago as I was surfing the web, the computer just shut off spontaneously. no warning, no nothing, just black screen and the computer was off. Now, when I start up, I'll get to the windows startup logo before I get a 0x00000007e blue screen crash. In BIOS, my hard drives, RAM, etc are picked up fine. Just for kicks i moved some ram around, dropped to one stick, unhooked the optical drives, yet the problem persists. Now, if i throw in my windows xp install CD and try to repair or just reinstall, it doesn't find the drive at all. but the bios does.
If i take a new formatted hard drive and insert it, the xp install again doesnt find it.I have 2 raid controllers on my intel board, and the floppy disks for both, but when I boot the raid controller screens pop up fine and recognize drives prior to the windows logo. If i throw my install CD in, however, and hit F6 to go to the raid controller install, the xp cd can't seem to read my floppy disks, as if they aren't even there. but the floppy drive light is on, powered, and the cables are plugged in.This is just really confusing, as if my computer just doesn't read anything but the CD drive.I'm at a loss. I'm willing to just do a clean install of windows on a formatted hard drive, but the windows CD install program won't detect the new drive (it is low-level formatted).I'm using XP professional and it's a full install CD, not just recovery.

The folk at this forum have helped me out massively before, so I again humbly seek you expertise. My XP machine tells me that a file in the config/system directory is missing or corrupt. So I put the XP disk in and it loaded up some things, only to tell me that it cant find any drives. I checked - the physical drives are there (a pair of Seagate 160Gb set up as mirrors in RAID - the RAID screen appears before the "config/system" error message) and I pulled the connectors apart and and put them together again.
