No Config/system - No Drives Found

The folk at this forum have helped me out massively before, so I again humbly seek you expertise. My XP machine tells me that a file in the config/system directory is missing or corrupt. So I put the XP disk in and it loaded up some things, only to tell me that it cant find any drives. I checked - the physical drives are there (a pair of Seagate 160Gb set up as mirrors in RAID - the RAID screen appears before the "config/system" error message) and I pulled the connectors apart and and put them together again.

It says windows can't be started up because windowssystem32configsystem is damaged or can't be found.I already tried bootcfg but doesn't make any differnce.

Computer has password, cant get in. I was going to just format the thing by booting up in 98 Boot from CD Rom Start Windows 98 Setup from Cd-rom Then starts checks PROBLEM When 98 starts its checks, the very first one says "No drives found, aborting installation." It throws me to a dos prompt A:> The only drive it sees is A. Now what I would normally do, is abort the installation of 98, it throws me to a dos. I put in my pcmagic cd in and execute. It sees only A: and B: but when I try to go to B: I get the "Not ready reading drive B" Abort, Retry, Fail. Basically I need to get to a dos prompt so I can execute pcmagic to format the drive

My operating system is Windows XP Pro. As of yesterday all was fine, I even burned a DVD. Today "My Computer" isn't even showing my DVD/CD recorder, only showing Drive A: 3.5 Floppy. It started when I downloaded (I think) WindowsBlinds, just wanted to do some color changes. Well when I installed it, Norton came up with a Trojan. Norton Quarantined or deleted it and said no more further actions required. The install finished (windowblinds) and I tried a couple different skins and decided to uninstall it. My computer, a dell dimension 8400 with windows xp home edition, keeps coming up with an error saying:Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32Configsystem.i ran boot utility and scanned the computer and the drives come up fine with the test(except the hard disk which popped up errors on a constant.)

i have windows xp pro installed on my pc along with linux mandrake 10.1 and one day while my dad was surfing the net the sreen turned blue and some type of error message came up and it said to do something if it happend again but i ignored it becuase i thought it wouldnt happen again so i restarted and when it came back on it went to a black sceen and i couldnt do anything but if i let it wait there it would come up with an error saying that windowssystem32config system was missing or corrupt

The system can be restored by using the Startup CD and pressing R for recover, but I do not have any cd. The only one I have it the recover cd, but it is my understanding that if I use the recovery cd that I will erase everything from my computer and I can not do this.I tried to read the other threads about the same problem, but to be honest I do not understand them and I just do not have the startup cd - maybe it is the same as the recovery cd?

I'm running a Dell XPS 600 with Windows XP Professional Media Center Edition. Well, OK, it's not really running.I used System Restore to return my PC to a point about six weeks ago when the system was more stable. The PC rebooted, and now it won't boot any more due to a missing/corrupt CONFIGSYSTEM file.It won't boot from either of my CD drives, either. I've used the boot Setup to alter the boot sequence but that doesn't help, the system just doesnt recognize those drives during boot. For this same reason, I've been unable to access the Recovery Console.

I have a laptop, a Dell latitude d610 that says:Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem I attempted to try the fix listed here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 but when I went to copy using the command: copy c:windowssystem32configsystem c:window mpsystem.bak into the tmp directory I created it said: File could not be copied.

My Toshiba notebook won't boot. I have tried starting in last known good configuration and safe mode but I keep getting the same error. The OEM toshiba recovery CD won't let me do a sytem repair. I was on my computer when I was done I decided to actually turn it off which I never do I always leave it running. My computer was working completely fine I ran virus scans all that shizz, the next day I turn it on and it says:Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt windowssystem 32configsystem You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-Rom. In the process something happened. when the laptop is powered up it goes directly to the system config.screen. then next line reads verifying DMI Pool Data. the next line reads NTLDR missing.

When booting up, the Sys Config Util comes up with the usual canned statement. He has not made any changes. Clicks Don't show this again then clicks OK. Reboots and again it comes up. He is the only user and administrator.

I want to reformat my computer, so i put one of my cd rom drives as top priority, inserted cd and restarted. Everything was fine until then, until when i press 'enter', and it says : 'no hard drives were found on this computer, setup cannot complete' or something along those lines.
I then looked for help on the internet, found that for SATA drives, you need to have the drivers on a floppy disk....
However, i do not have a floppy disk reader

My boss told me to press F8 and take it where it says Use last known good configuration....I did that but Im still getting a message windows could not start ref missing or corrupt file It said for me to start windows set up by using the original CD-Rom.... The only CD roms I can find for my desktop is this one.

I have encountered another problem!
Ok, so, my computer wouldn't boot up right? I had to repair the installation etc and activate Windows, which I did today. The just recently, I was in safe mode trying to fix the PC, and then it restarted, and now everytime I try to start it up, it says,
The file Windows...../config/SYSTEM is missing or corrupt and it says I have to repair Windows, using the disk.

Basically I have windows xp sp2 professional installed and I recently partitioned my hardrive(primary partition- drive E:), Nothing went wrong with the partitioning. I then installed windows 7 beta into my partition but it suddenly stopped midway through the installation. So I reboot it and it gives an errror message and it tells me to insert the cd. So I was working with adobe photoshop and it absolutely refused to exit. I tried ctrl+alt+delete and after about twenty minutes it was still frozen on my screen. So I tried shutting the computer down normally, and it froze on the "Windows is shutting down" screen for like, the fiftieth time. So I had to force it off by holding down the power button. When I turned it back on to continue working, I got a message saying windows/system32/config (or something like that) was missing or corrupt. I pressed "r" since I don't know where my startup disk is and it restarted.
I have Norton GoBack, so I hit the space-bar to allow it to restore to about an hour earlier before I opened photoshop. This wasn't the first time this had happened. I've been getting the same message at every other start up for a couple weeks and this method worked fine every time. It seemed to be okay this time too but then it just RESTARTED for no apparent reason. When it got to the Norton GoBack screen I got a message saying the system had become unstable and needed to start over, and it suggested it was possibly because of a bug in an application or a hardware problem which is also possible.
