My Toshiba notebook won't boot. I have tried starting in last known good configuration and safe mode but I keep getting the same error. The OEM toshiba recovery CD won't let me do a sytem repair. The computer had been working fine and when I restarted it, it came back with this error. Please help I don't want to have to do a complete reinstall and wipe out my data
Acer laptop (TravelMate 4020) that operates using Windows XP. When I started up my computer the other day, I received the following message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:WindowsSystem32ConfigSystem You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows setup and using the original setup CD-rom. Select 'r' at first screen to start repair."
When I start up my laptop, the screen immediatly says Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. The deal is I dont have the cd. IF someone could tell me how to get an xp cd (without buying) that'd be great.
I have a laptop, a Dell latitude d610 that says:Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem I attempted to try the fix listed here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 but when I went to copy using the command: copy c:windowssystem32configsystem c:window mpsystem.bak into the tmp directory I created it said: File could not be copied.
So i booted my t400 ibm laptop and this error message popped up as stated in the message title. My harddrive is in achi mode and i was wondering if i switch the harddrive mode and do a repair with an xp cd, will i lose any files?
It says windows can't be started up because windowssystem32configsystem is damaged or can't be found.I already tried bootcfg but doesn't make any differnce.
My computer, a dell dimension 8400 with windows xp home edition, keeps coming up with an error saying:Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32Configsystem.i ran boot utility and scanned the computer and the drives come up fine with the test(except the hard disk which popped up errors on a constant.)
i have windows xp pro installed on my pc along with linux mandrake 10.1 and one day while my dad was surfing the net the sreen turned blue and some type of error message came up and it said to do something if it happend again but i ignored it becuase i thought it wouldnt happen again so i restarted and when it came back on it went to a black sceen and i couldnt do anything but if i let it wait there it would come up with an error saying that windowssystem32config system was missing or corrupt

I was exiting a game and windows started getting really slow and i could not click on anything so i held my power button on my computer and shut it off. When I started it again it said "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem" then it says I can put my original CD in and go to the recovery console. When I did this I got to the first step in a tutorial online where I type "copy c:windowsystem.... etc"
I was on my computer today, programs started freezing up, eventually windows crashed. When rebooting I got the message I put in the subject title line "windows could not start because the following file windowssystem32configsystem is missing or corrupt".
Windows crashed on my PC, on reboot I get an error message,"WindowsSystem32ConfigSystem corrupt or missing"So I search around on my laptop and find handy registry repair walkthrough on the windows site. I pop in my windows xp cd and enter the repair console. Now, the instructions say I should be prompted to enter an admin password, but I am not promted, instead I just get to the command prompt."C:>"So I type in the first command on the list "md tmp" to make a temp file for the repair and then..."Access is Denied"
wen i start up my computer it comes up with this :windowssystem32configsystem....missing or corrupt you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM . Select "R" at the first screen to start repair i hav no idea what this means or how to fix it . i hav the oorginal windows CD .
When booting a computer comes up with a message saying that the following file is either missing or corrupt...C:WINDOWSsystem32configSystem It then sits there! Doin' nothing btw, the same happens in both normal and safe modes, last known good conficuration does not help, plus it also freezes when trying to log on to the recovery console.
I was asked to work on a laptop that was having issues staying on, I finally fixed the power switch and got the thing running. It started to boot and then I got the error "C:WINDOWSsystem32configsystem is corrupt or missing" And then it rambles on about the recovery console, thats fine and dandy and all but the problem is that this machine was from compaq -_- so the recovery console was built into a secondary partition.
my file windows/system32/config/system is corrupt. it says i can boot with the CD and use the "R"epair function. I do that and it takes me to DOS where I can roam around my harddrive and the windows CD. now how do I find this file to replace it? because on the windwos CD there is no "system" file in the directory I386/system32/config/. I've tried to copy it from my other computer, but since it's using the file I cant'!

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting the Windows Setup using the original Set up CD-ROM. Selcect 'r' at the fist screen to start repair.
my laptop stopped working. After dwld some Excel service pack the pc refused to restart. The message is quite ominous: Stop error c0000218 and the hive affected is system root/system32/config/default It's impossible to recover the last working config or start in safe mode or do anything. It keeps looping back to the blue screen with the stop error. The pc does not recognize the hard drive, it does not have a recovery cd.
I have tried FIXMBR, FIXBOOT and now trying to reinstall using the guide in another thread. I do not get the same R option when I get to the SETUP screen. It looks to me like it will fresh install XP and wipe everything. Originally I was getting missing SYSTEM file and boot stops. I found what I thought was the SYSTEM file and put it into the directory but it still will not boot. I just get another new error.
The system can be restored by using the Startup CD and pressing R for recover, but I do not have any cd. The only one I have it the recover cd, but it is my understanding that if I use the recovery cd that I will erase everything from my computer and I can not do this.I tried to read the other threads about the same problem, but to be honest I do not understand them and I just do not have the startup cd - maybe it is the same as the recovery cd?
I'm running a Dell XPS 600 with Windows XP Professional Media Center Edition. Well, OK, it's not really running.I used System Restore to return my PC to a point about six weeks ago when the system was more stable. The PC rebooted, and now it won't boot any more due to a missing/corrupt CONFIGSYSTEM file.It won't boot from either of my CD drives, either. I've used the boot Setup to alter the boot sequence but that doesn't help, the system just doesnt recognize those drives during boot. For this same reason, I've been unable to access the Recovery Console.
Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM This is the error message i have. I have a copy of windows xp pro. i have no backup disk.
Can someone please tell me if I can use a Windows XP Professional disk to repair a Windows XP Home Edition unmountable boot volume? My sister-in-law's Dell Dimension 8400 is getting that error when she starts the PC. She can't locate the disks that came with the PC and I only have an XP Pro disk. I repaired my laptop using recovery console about a year ago but that is XP Pro also.
I was on my computer when I was done I decided to actually turn it off which I never do I always leave it running. My computer was working completely fine I ran virus scans all that shizz, the next day I turn it on and it says:Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt windowssystem 32configsystem You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-Rom. Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.
All of a sudden I cannot boot up my Toshiba laptop (2.3mhz pent4, 512 RAM, Windows XP Home with SP2). I get the error message "Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:C:windowssystem32configsystem".By hitting the F8 key when starting I can get the start menu and I've tried booting into safe mode and I've tried "boot using last known good configuration" - but still get the same error message.
I have a friend who has a laptop. When purchased used operating system was windows 98,then upgraded to 2000. In the process something happened. when the laptop is powered up it goes directly to the system config.screen. then next line reads verifying DMI Pool Data. the next line reads NTLDR missing.
I get an error on boot up telling me that the config file is corrupted or missing. IT also states to please insert CD to try and repair this problem. Press "r" before the first screen. If I do that will it try and reinstall XP? Will I lose all my data?
