System's Bios To Read The CD First - RAID HDD
Oct 4, 2008I am trying to install winXP Pro I set the system's bios to read the CD first.
Now the system can not see any of the RAID HDD's? Help I have been pulling my hair out over this thing?

finished the install (34 minutes left) when the computer turned itself off.
This happened several times. I removed the hard drive and reformatted it -
cleaned it off, then reinstalled it. Now when the PC boots up it recognizes
the CD Rom drivs but it will not boot or install from the CD ROM drive. I
created the 6 diskettes to tell the PC to install from the CD Rom drive, and
it gives me an I/O error. The BIOS says to boot off the CD ROM drive but it
won't. What might cause this? A bad hard drive? A bad motherboard?

Jan 30, 2010i have 2 western digital 80gb on raid0. on this array i have installed windows 7 and now i want to install windows xp on another partition.the problem is that windows xp setup won't recognize my array even with the original raid driver floppy-disk. i created even an nLite customized xp with those drivers installed and it doesn't work.

Aug 10, 2006Got a bit of a problem with my housemates pc.A friend gave him some extra RAM, i checked it out and it was crucial 512mb pc2100 CL2.5, and although it didn't match his exsisting RAM it seemed to me that his mobo would only run the FSB at 200mhz anyway so i went ahead and fitted it.It worked fine I then noticed his system temp was running a little high (60-65 degrees), so i took his heatsink off and cleaned the dust and refitted it with some new thermal compound.I added too much and the temp went up. To nearly 90 degrees.I shut it dwon as i didn't want the cpu to pop, cleaned it off, reapplied less compound and figured this would work fine.Now we have the problem. Most of the time: Power on and nothing happens. No bios, no beeps. Occasionally: Power on, i jump into the bios, the temp looks fine (30-40 degrees) and then it freezes right there in the bios after about 30 seconds to a minute.This sounds like a heat issue, but the last temp reading before freeze is 33 degrees.?I've double and triple checked that the heatsink is on properly and thats fine. I followed the official guide on how much compound to use (a blob the size of an uncooked short grain of rice).

Aug 18, 2008I have ibm thinkpad R51 2887 nq2 series .My system has been crashed as it is not starting.The whole system gets hang after showing the first ibm screen. The bios utility setup is not getting opened through access ibm button . In safe mode it shows that system BIOS and video BIOS is not working and it has been shadowed.sometimes the system gets started ,but after one minute ,it stucks and the whole system paused and nothing happens.It may be the virus attack on BIOS and it also changes the time and date configuration of BIOS. so what should i do .And how i can install BIOS driver to the system.

May 17, 2007I have a RAID system setup as JBOD on both drive in my laptop and I formatted using DBAN... Now i boot with Windows XP Pro so i can install it and it only recognizes one of my drives. I loaded my RAID drivers. I go ahead and try to install XP on it anyway. I tried to format the drive again using FULL format, i tried a Quick Format, and I also tried leaving it as is. It will install the setup files and reboot my computer. So i take out the XP disc but then it doesnt recognize any disks. Does anyone know how i can reintsall xP back on this sysetm or how I can get XP to recognize both my drives even if i slipstreamed my RAID drivers in it already.

May 31, 2008I tried install Windows XP on to this machine for a dual boot, but unfortunately that doesn't appear like it's working... I used nLite to put the RAID drivers onto the installation CD, and here is the problem I am having:The system says "Press any key to boot from CD doThe system then says "Please wait while checking system configuration" or something to that effect.The screen then turns black, my CD drive no longer shows the read LED, and nothing happens indefinitely.I have been able to install Ubuntu on to this computer, and all works well, but whenever I try to use XP, either the original disk or the one with the drivers put on it, it will not boot. I have looked at my BIOS and no settings are off, they all appear normal to me.

Sep 9, 2007I have burned data on DVD ,but for some reason when I try to use it ,the system(Windows XP Professional SP2 ) gives me "please insert disc" message.It started happening after I reinstalled windows ,but the data was burned onto disc on previous installation .It was the same system,I just had to reinstall it to fix a lot of accumulated problems .This happens with DVDs from various manufacturers and with different types of data,so I believe it's a system problem.It registers the disc being put in the DVD/CD drive(the icon is shown in my computer menu,although sometimes it is not) but it still gives me the insert disc message.98 % of the time it works O.K. ,but it should work all the time ,right?

Apologies for the long post, but I wanted to make sure to include all the relevant steps of how I reached the point I'm at now.Yesterday, running Windows XP Home Edition SP2, I tried out Google's new "Lively" program (3D interactive chat; mostly integrated into a web browser--Firefox in my case) for the first time. Later on in the day, just before bed, I decided I should defragment the C hard drive, as I had not done so in quite some time.I started the defragmenter while I was still tinkering with Lively, which was probably a bad choice, and perhaps very silly of me. A few moments after starting the defragmentation process, I clicked an option in Lively (to alter my avatar I think) and the system hung; both the mouse and keyboard no longer got any response from the computer.I waited for a little while, then I was able to move the mouse pointer again. I clicked in my browser window a couple of times to test responsiveness, but the system froze once more. After several minutes I gave up on waiting and went to bed, leaving the system to hopefully sort itself out.

Dec 12, 2007My spare hard drive I believe has been acting up. Now suddenly the drive is there but I can't view anything on it. Did diagnostics and it checks out, spins up, but somehow the file directory got corrupt? it's a WD 120. Would using the Recovery console be the best option to repair that file system? I am unable to do a scandisk/Chkdsk from DOS or within XP. I have some video files I'd hate to loose to reformating that drive to repair it.

Apr 4, 2007Running a Dell XPS710. Was on the phone with tech support and had to go into setup to check on something. after I got off the phone, I rebooted and tried to access setup and can not. I don't know if I accidentally checked off something that won't allow me to use the keyboard until the machine boots into windows because pressing F2 (Setup) or F12 (Boot Options) when the Dell splash screen appears won't work. Aug 13, 2005While in XP I deleted a partiain that had Fedora on it. I was using GRUB to do multi-boot. When I rebooted XP it booted to the GRUB command line. I rebooted and hit F12 to try to get to system settings and after I chose system settings it went right back to the GRUB command line. I rebooted again and hit F2 to get to system settings and it went straight to the GRUB command line again.I'm pretty sure I need to fix my MBR but, I can't change my settings to boot from my CD and I don't have a floppy drive.

Nov 6, 2005I have four computers, three on windows XP and one on Linux. All are connected to the internet via a D Link DI-704. I had to reformat and reload one of my computers yesterday with windows XP and then proceeded to set up the networking. I will call the windows computers A, B and C. I reformatted A. Having run the networking wizard I can now from A read C but not B. B will not let A or C in. I need permission from the administrater. There is no administrater on any computer. C can read A but not B. B can read A and C. Does anybody know what is going on?

Sep 14, 2005This all started when my computer was shutting down at random times when I was in windows...at first I thought it was my CPU because it was just shutting down when I was playing games... but I no longer think this because it started shutting down when I was just in windows.Anyway so my friend and I started working on it...we thought it was the mild overclock we put on a few weeks earlier. However, my temps were normal and it passed the stress tests we did on it through the BIOS...So we changed the settings back to stock. No luck.Problem not solved. In fact, now we can't stay in windows for more than a couple seconds before it re-boots.

Nov 28, 2005Ive been getting alot of help with this RAID stuff and RAID 0 is looking to be my best choice. Heres the thing: I got a new Hard drive thats the same size as the first 2 I got. I have the option on my motherboard to RAID but I have hit a wall on what the RAID will do. If I were to put this HD on a RAID would it be its own drive still with the RAID structure or if I were to put it on there with another HD would both be made into 1 HD? I just have the other 2 on a simple SATA connection with no raid and its working good. I just would like to speed it up a little more mainly as I do most of my backups on DVDs. Would it be wiser to just skip the RAID since im doin backups on DVDs or would the RAID be a good option?
