Have To Replace The OS If Get A New Mother Board?
Sep 4, 2009This may seem like a noob question but i was wondering if i will need to replace windows if i get i new motherboard. My computer is a HP workstation and it came with windows XP professional.
since i already have it on my hard drive will it just not boot with a different motherboard?
Mother Board Won't Power Off
Aug 17, 2010i just installed a new msi g31 board along with intel processor. after installation i tried powering off computer but the os shuts down leaving the board still powered up with cpu fan and other case fan still running. I hold down power for more than 5 secs, same result. I have to power off from psu switch from back of tower. Can u give me some in sight to resolve this issue?

Compaq Restore Cd's Work Mother Board Changing It's Self
May 2, 2006I have a compaq computer and have a problem with the restore cd from compaq. I needed to reformat the hard drive because of some crup files. When I put the restore cd in the computer is says the cd's are not for this compaq. I taked to compaq and gave them all the information they ask for and was told that I had the correct cd and it must be a bad cd set. They had me order a new set of cd's from there online store which I did with the part number they gave me after I double checked the number to see if they were correct and I got them in yesterday and still had the same problem. I talked to hp again last night and was told that the mother board most likely needed to be tatoo to match the cd's. I was told to take it to one of there repair stores to have this done. Never heard of a mother board changing it's self.

Jun 28, 2005I just had to replace the mother board on my computer Its a Asus P4PE motherboard After replacing the motherboard, I just hooked up the hard drive I was using and the computer did come back up. The new motherboard is another P4PE warranty replacement board from Asus.
The computer is working but I can't get sound or USB services The computer doesn't even seem to know that sound hardware exists on this new motherboard for some reason... The USB, I have no idea why its not working other then the fact I can't get my USB printer or camera to work... Do I have to "Reload" XP? I don't want to loose what's on my hard drive... What should I do to get this right??? In all the years I've had computers I've never had a motherboard die before so I'm not sure how to proceed!!!
Video Card / Mother Board Arenot Working
Sep 10, 2006So recently I got a new monitor assuming that something is wrong with my old one. But the same problem occurs, my monitor still goes blank! Well, ever since I switched my video card (same time I got my old monitor) I was experiencing that problem. People at the store are no help at all since they are so clueless!
So I came to this conclusion, its either my video card that's experiencing problems or my mother board is getting out dated or whatsoever. (I got it back in 2003 and its Pentium 4 hyper-threading) My current mother board doesn't have a monitor slot on the pentium, only has a slot where the video card is. Aug 25, 2007When first booting the system it gets to a windows screen and reboots - ad infinitum. When booted in "safe mode" it reads several files (in DOS - I think) and stops on reading a path on the "C" drive ending with something like ...../AGP 440 or ..../AGP 44? (or something smilar).
Do you think it is looking for graphics drivers?I have gone into the BIOS set up to change from a PCI graphics card to the on-board, and there appears to be no PCI card.
Where To Find Setting For Documents And Setting
Oct 5, 2008I just finished a complete reinstall of Windows XP. Before the re-installation, I partitioned the hard drive. I want the basic Windows XP system files and drivers on my "C" drive and then I want to accumulate data files (word processing, spreadsheets, photos, music files, etc.) on the new partition which in this case has been labeled the "G" drive. The difficulty I am having is getting getting the "Documents and Settings" to move over to the "G" drive. So that when I want to load photographs from my camera to the computer it goes for C:Documents and SettingsMy NameMy DocumentsMy Pictures. Instead I would like it to go to G:Documents and SettingsMy NameMy DocumentsMy Pictures. Using Windows Explorer I changed the file name of "My Documents" to 'Windows XP old path My Documents" and then I was going to set up a new path to the "G" drive through Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Managment>Disk Management.
However I noticed that when I clicked on Start in the bottom left hand corner and it puts up that little window that "My Documents" which was listed now had the new title 'Windows XP old path My Documents' which I believe means I haven't gotten to the proper place to change the main configuration for Documents and Settings. Long way of saying how do I change the basic configuration for where Document and Settings are stored to a new location.
Changed BIOS Password: PC Shut Downs & Reboot BIOS Keep Coming?
Aug 14, 2008once the on button was pushed, it came up with the BIOS screen asking for the password.I removed the CMOS battery, which allowed me to change the Password so I can get onto BIOS now. However, when I boot now it just comes up with the BIOS screen.I set HD to boot first, aswell as setting the clock and date. I then ask it to save and quit, after which it shut's down, and reboots, only, BIOS keeps coming up. And I need to get this sorted asap
