i have a very serious problem with my pc when i start my pc it satys on dos ,and messages shows like press F1 to continue or press del to enter the setup now when i presss f1 it start the windows fine but when i press DEL nothing show up just a black screen thats all now problem is i cannot get to Bois setup to work it out

Was on the phone with tech support and had to go into setup to check on something. after I got off the phone, I rebooted and tried to access setup and can not. I don't know if I accidentally checked off something that won't allow me to use the keyboard until the machine boots into windows because pressing F2 (Setup) or F12 (Boot Options) when the Dell splash screen appears won't work. It just goes into Windows.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter resolving an issue resulting from a printer installation, I was able to get my computer back to a state of normalcy, except that the CD drives were no longer found by the system.This is a Win 2K and there is a DVD-ROM and a CD-RW.So rather than do the smart thing and reinstall them via the OEM CDs, I went into the Bios and tried to tell the Bios that they were the Secondary Master and Slave drives (duh).So now, the system hangs, telling me that the primary slave auto detect wasn't finding anything. (Even though I didn't address that when I screwed with it.)I cannot even enter the BIOS setup, since the hangup occurs before the system even gets to that point.If I can get back to BIOS setup, I can at least reset to defaults, then figure out how to do the right thing, but for now, I'm STUCK.It's an MSI KT3 Ultra Mother board If more info is needed I can probably get it, but wanted to keep the initial post short.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen XP Pro was functional I had 4 partitions on my 30 gig laptop drive in the following order as the appeared physically on the disk:
1: C: - a 2 gig dos partition for ancient non xp emulation compatible software
2: A linux partition for a common distro
3: the swap partition for the linux distro
4: E: - a 14 gig xp pro ntfs partition with my xp pro system files on it..
Now I believe my CD-ROM was using D: at this time for some reason or another... I don't quite remember for sure, but I am 100% positive that my system part was on E:
So I grab paragon partition manager and wipe the linux partition and merge it with the E: partition.. I must have really messed something up in the merge because it ended up changing my e: system part to d:. So now the system goes all the way through the first windows xp splash screen and hangs on the second one, after it loads the gui and before it provides the login prompt. I've set up a BartPE disk so that I could load the hkey_local_user hive to rename the mounted drives, but I must be doing something wrong because it saves the changes i make to the mounted drive d: to e: but it does not actually change the name of the mounted drive... it's still showing up as D:.. I have not tried a repair install because I assume it will not work due to the fact that it will detect the windows OS on d: and will probably just correct the OS and not any of the applications installed. Instead of attempting this I would rather blow away the part and start over from scratch which I will when I get tired of fooling with this.
I have an old (but still very spry) AMD 850 Duron 20gHd, award Bios with XP Pro Sp1 updated to Sp2 via updates.Was reading about overclocking (which I know nothing about), and decided to change a setting in the bios to Enable," CPU temperature shut down" ?? not sure exactly what it was called but something very close to that. When I hit "Y Enter" the screen went black and that's how its been ever since. Ive tried tapping delete on start up and the XP CD but nothing .. just the black screen!Ps I've since read a number of reports referring to AMD chip temperatures being misread by bios's, sounds related maybe?

When booted in "safe mode" it reads several files (in DOS - I think) and stops on reading a path on the "C" drive ending with something like ...../AGP 440 or ..../AGP 44? (or something smilar).
Do you think it is looking for graphics drivers?I have gone into the BIOS set up to change from a PCI graphics card to the on-board, and there appears to be no PCI card.

I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.
I recently installed xp for the first time after replacing motherboard and CPU.I skipped setup because I didn't know what I was doing. Now I can't boot up (cold or warm) without using the original disk. Can I just go into setup and change boot settings without re-installing.Is there anything else I should know before I attempt to fix this problem? I am tired of using the disk every time I update something or install new program.
View 14 Replies View Relatedonce the on button was pushed, it came up with the BIOS screen asking for the password.I removed the CMOS battery, which allowed me to change the Password so I can get onto BIOS now. However, when I boot now it just comes up with the BIOS screen.I set HD to boot first, aswell as setting the clock and date. I then ask it to save and quit, after which it shut's down, and reboots, only, BIOS keeps coming up. And I need to get this sorted asap

I was away from home for about a week and left the machine plugged into the mains but powered down. When I returned home to boot up, it kept doing things like constantly hanging on parts of the bios POST screen, eventually booting up after thirty or so complete restarts. It finally booted into windows but after the last shutting down, it will now not boot up at all. I have replaced the bios battery and reset the bios several times.

The only way I can get itno my xp pro system, is to use "F8" during the bios check, the select my hd from there, then it seems only half of my programs work, and it also seems to be randomly changing the programs that do not work, when I do this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedGot a bit of a problem with my housemates pc.A friend gave him some extra RAM, i checked it out and it was crucial 512mb pc2100 CL2.5, and although it didn't match his exsisting RAM it seemed to me that his mobo would only run the FSB at 200mhz anyway so i went ahead and fitted it.It worked fine I then noticed his system temp was running a little high (60-65 degrees), so i took his heatsink off and cleaned the dust and refitted it with some new thermal compound.I added too much and the temp went up. To nearly 90 degrees.I shut it dwon as i didn't want the cpu to pop, cleaned it off, reapplied less compound and figured this would work fine.Now we have the problem. Most of the time: Power on and nothing happens. No bios, no beeps. Occasionally: Power on, i jump into the bios, the temp looks fine (30-40 degrees) and then it freezes right there in the bios after about 30 seconds to a minute.This sounds like a heat issue, but the last temp reading before freeze is 33 degrees.?I've double and triple checked that the heatsink is on properly and thats fine. I followed the official guide on how much compound to use (a blob the size of an uncooked short grain of rice).

I contacted the maker of my motherboard and they say an upgrade is available and sent it to me for { DON'T CRACKUP} $49.00. The bios utility setup is not getting opened through access ibm button . After the BIOS load, I get a "MBR error 2" message and it just stays there.
My board is an Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe. I used the Asus Update Utility to flash my BIOS.
I've setup Windows 2003 fax services on a W2K3 server and shared the device. I've tested faxing from Word on my PC and it works fine.However, when other users try to install the fax client, the setup hangs asking for the fx* setup files. I've tried different XPSP2 CDs, copying the files to a local directory, making sure that the users have local admin rights (and even domain admin rights) but to no avail. The files are already in the system32 directory so in theory the setup doesn't even need to copy them. Even if I delete them, it doesn't work.Our corporate SMS team reckons that there isn't any policy which could
cause the problem.
I started an upgrade for xp pro part way through the install I got a message "WatchDriverSigningPolicy.exe" no found I pressed enter then got another message "fake setup call himself instead original "setup.exe" ; setup abort!" now each time I reboot it starts to load xp then gives me the same message then press enter it then reboots.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI mistakenly launched XP Setup and want to know how to stop it from progressing further. I have another XP installed on another virtual disk. Rebooting from there allowed me delete the Setup files. Or so I thought ! The main XP installation however continues to try to launch Setup. Just about whatever I do, it ends in tears. My question is how do I stop XP on this disk from thinking it has to launch Setup? I dont want to reinstall XP, as that will involve a huge amount of work to recreate my environment.
