Have To Replace The OS If Get A New Mother Board?
Sep 4, 2009This may seem like a noob question but i was wondering if i will need to replace windows if i get i new motherboard. My computer is a HP workstation and it came with windows XP professional.
since i already have it on my hard drive will it just not boot with a different motherboard?
Mother Board Won't Power Off
Aug 17, 2010i just installed a new msi g31 board along with intel processor. after installation i tried powering off computer but the os shuts down leaving the board still powered up with cpu fan and other case fan still running. I hold down power for more than 5 secs, same result. I have to power off from psu switch from back of tower. Can u give me some in sight to resolve this issue?

Compaq Restore Cd's Work Mother Board Changing It's Self
May 2, 2006I have a compaq computer and have a problem with the restore cd from compaq. I needed to reformat the hard drive because of some crup files. When I put the restore cd in the computer is says the cd's are not for this compaq. I taked to compaq and gave them all the information they ask for and was told that I had the correct cd and it must be a bad cd set. They had me order a new set of cd's from there online store which I did with the part number they gave me after I double checked the number to see if they were correct and I got them in yesterday and still had the same problem. I talked to hp again last night and was told that the mother board most likely needed to be tatoo to match the cd's. I was told to take it to one of there repair stores to have this done. Never heard of a mother board changing it's self.

Jun 28, 2005I just had to replace the mother board on my computer Its a Asus P4PE motherboard After replacing the motherboard, I just hooked up the hard drive I was using and the computer did come back up. The new motherboard is another P4PE warranty replacement board from Asus.
The computer is working but I can't get sound or USB services The computer doesn't even seem to know that sound hardware exists on this new motherboard for some reason... The USB, I have no idea why its not working other then the fact I can't get my USB printer or camera to work... Do I have to "Reload" XP? I don't want to loose what's on my hard drive... What should I do to get this right??? In all the years I've had computers I've never had a motherboard die before so I'm not sure how to proceed!!!
Video Card / Mother Board Arenot Working
Sep 10, 2006So recently I got a new monitor assuming that something is wrong with my old one. But the same problem occurs, my monitor still goes blank! Well, ever since I switched my video card (same time I got my old monitor) I was experiencing that problem. People at the store are no help at all since they are so clueless!
So I came to this conclusion, its either my video card that's experiencing problems or my mother board is getting out dated or whatsoever. (I got it back in 2003 and its Pentium 4 hyper-threading) My current mother board doesn't have a monitor slot on the pentium, only has a slot where the video card is. May 9, 2005I recently was forced to do a re-install of XP to clean up a few bugs.The system has 3 hard drives, but since the reinstall, only the C: drive appears. The other two are nowhere to be found.I've tried mapping to them, but they just don't show up there as a mapping option.Anyone have any advice? When I added the extra hard drives I didn't have an available slot and did have to create a partition. I no longer have the software I had originally used though. Do I need it to make the 2 other drives visable?

In Disk 0, it shows the three partitions (I've no clue why there are 3, is that standard?)39 MB FAT, 69.81 GB NTFS, and 4.64 GB FAT32.This happened after a failed software install that dell refused to help with (there's a shocker)It's just an annoyance, nothing more, but I would like to get it back to being just the c drive without risking losing anything in the process. I had downloaded one version of linux and was able to see the files on the internal hard drive, but was unable to copy them to a memory stick or external hard drive. Now I've downloaded ubuntu and booted off a memory stick... this time, it's telling me that the internal hard drive has all kinds of bad sectors and won't let me access any of the files on there.

I can see the old hard drive in the E drive and it appears that all the contents are there by the size of the hard drive (same as when I had it in the old laptop) but I can only see, actually view, a very small percentage of the drive.
My goal: I want to transfer all old music, word documents and photos from old laptop into new laptop.

My wife has an old XP computer I want to buy her a new one but she doesn't like the vista and she wants to keep the old xp operating system. What I want to do is take the old hard drive and put it in the new computer as the master and take the new hard drive and put it in as the slave erasing the vista off it. Then using the master slave way can I transfer the xp operating system and all her files and data from the old hard drive to the new one.

I tried the repair command and it wouldn't work, so I decided to save the files and reformat the hard drive).I plugged the hard drive into a working computer and pulled all the documents off of it (VERY slowly) onto an external hard drive.
Every once in awhile I wouldn't be able to pull a picture or document off because of a cyclic redundancy check error. I just moved on and saved what I could. I assumed it was because the hard drive was already bad so I just moved what I could.
