View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to clen up an old computer to give away. It is a 2002-vintage desktop with 512MB ram. I tried several times to reformat and reinstall xp, but I have only succeeded in removing the operating system and reformating both the hard drives. I have the OEM xp disk that came with it but I have tried 15 times to install xp and I can't. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Pressed F6 and installed sata drivers for the mobo etc. Now i hasten to add that i have tried this 3 times now, set up runs smoothly windows installs however when i have finished windows will only boot up with the CD in the CDROM. Been into Bios and changed boot sequence but still if no CD it just gets to boot from cd in the boot up screen and> stops, put the disk in and windows boots straight up and away we go.

Battlefield 2 is where I notice the significant performance loss and where I benchmark my machine.Think I am missing a driver? Can I find out what driver I am missing? Device Manager doesn't show anything to the contrary. I've installed drivers from the MSI site(4in1 setup), ati/amd drivers for video card, netgear lan drivers.

We do not want the version as its old and we want to install sp3 which we bought yesterday. I lost my sound and when I look at my device manager i see a little yellow flag by my multi media controller. If I try to Upgrade the driver I get the blue screen of death. I tried to reistall my origanial operating system, from my 8 recovery disks it won't let me. I trie booting from it and it won't let me. It sez I'm missing (windowsroot) system32hal.dll.

I even have the original Windows XP license key number printed on a label on the side of my computer.the one thing that I do not have is the Windows XP installation disk.What is the best way to resolve this?I have seen XP disks for sale on ebay craigslist. Can I purchase one of those and install it on my old computer? If I do that should I get a new license key from them or do I use my old one.

Then after, I plugged them in and get no sound. In the device manager under the legacy audio cards and codecs, it says "This device is working properly", but through the control panel under sounds and audio devices, it says there are no audio devices detected.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a new desktop, 3 yrs ago, with Windows XP Pro installed from the factory, and of course it was an OEM version, as usual.The com has a MSI Intel 848P Neo Mother board which I have changed 2 times before on warranty. Now I had to change it again, due to one PCI slot was dead. So far everything was ok.But, to activate the OS was now a "plenty big" problem.
Somehow the technician managed to do it at his own place. Suddenly, I was going to download a plug-in program to my Microsoft Publisher 2002, of course validation was required. No problem - I had done that several times during the last 3 yeras and everything has been ok. But not this time. Validation failed, Microsoft announced. "The Office XP Pro has to be activated, start any Office program, go to Help activate product" - No problem, easy job.
With this activation process, you cannot have xp(RETAIL) on more than one machine. I would like to remove it from one machine and then install in another. MS tech support told me that this copy of xp cannot get a license for more than one machine. I wish I knew that before. I would then have put it on the machine that I want it on now. Can it be removed and then installed on another nachine? Still only one machine licensed.

It will be used in posture evaluation and I selected it for the wireless feature. After unsuccessfully trying to install it on my samsung laptop R710 AS04 I was informed by canon help that 'Windows XP (excluding the 64-bit version) with Service Pack 2 installed is required to use the wireless function.' while the samsung came with Vista pre-installed.
My question is this: I still have an old CD of XP Home Edition, it is version 2002 with a part number X08-26270.....how do I know if this is the 64 or 32 bit version? Will I have problems installing SP2 on such an old version or should I pop for a newer one? I'm determined to make the danged camera work wirelessly, any other suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

View 6 Replies View Relatedi have a dell dimension e310. 2.9 ghz. 4 gigs of ram. windows xp... umm so just recently we took it into the shop and they re-installed the operating system. because we thought it was infected with virus' or w/e.ever since, its been running slow. it boots up ok...and for the first few minutes its running...not fast. but not too slow. and then it kinda just freezes. i can move the mouse but if im running windows explorer(havent been able to re-install firefox) it kinda just sticks there. i installed norton 360 and it says the pc i running fine. i dont know what to do about it. i have to wait an hour just so windows explorer can close..very frustrating...

View 7 Replies View RelatedIm planning a spring clean and of my hard drive including a re-installation of XP by creating a Bart PE disk,slipstreaming it with SP3, critical updates and my current drivers.At the moment my My Documents folder and sub-folders are on a completely separate HD so I shouldnt really need to touch those.I carry out regular backs of both drives to an external drive using Acronis True Image.When I re-install XP it will obviously recreate a My Documentsfolder of its own. How do I go about pointing Windows to my existing My Docs folder on the separate drive? I moved it originally by clicking on MOVE in PROPERTIES on My Docs in the START MENU, but if I use this method this time I will just end up with 2 My Docs on the second drive.
