Compatibility Mode is most commonly used for applications that may have peformed better on another Operating System such as Windows 95, 98, ME, etc.Should you install Windows XP and experience a negative impact on a particular application you can try to run it in Compatibility Mode. To do so: 1. Right click the Executable file and choose Properties.2. Select the "Compatibility" tab.3. Place a check mark in "Run this program in Compatibility Mode for:"4. Select the Operating System you would like to run the application in from the drop down list.5.
Right, got a Toshiba A30-151, had XP Home OEM installed on it when it left the factory (so no install disk), finally got round to doing a reinstall (been messing about with OSX, needed clearing off and starting from scratch anyway). Some time ago a copy of XP Pro (fully legal) was posted through my door addressed to someone else, with no return address, so i kept it. anyway, thought i'd finallly use this and installed it, but now i have no option to hibernate the laptop? The hibernate tab is not there in power management. I know it's supported, as i could hibernate it before i reformatted and reinstalled. any way round this, other than using my mate's Home OEM disk and my serial to reinstall?
To enable or disable PIO/DMA modes simply follow these steps:Open Device Manager: Start - Run - DevMgmt.msc Expand the category "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"Right click the desired IDE controller (Primary/Secondary) and choose Properties.Choose the "Advanced Settings" tab.Change "Transfer Mode" as necessary. Note: This option will only be available on hardware that supports this feature.
I want to enable remote shutdown for the computers in my companies network. I was trying with just my computer and the one next to it, but I'm having some trouble with the permissions. My Google searches indicate that my computer needs admin access on the remote machine I'm trying to shutdown. However, I know very little about Windows permissions. How do I get my machine to have access to shutdown the remote machine?
I wanted to enable the USB ports in the machine. I have gone through a lot of sites which says how to enable the USB ports by making changes in the registry and all, but all for vain.

1. Click Start on the Windows taskbar, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, type:
control userpasswords2 then click OK.3. In the dialog box that appears, You'll see: "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box.Enabled will require users to logon, disabling will make XP automatically logon to the Administrator account.
When I go to websites, for example www.victoriassecret.com and try to click on an item and then click on "larger view, back view, side view, etc" tabs I get "javascript void" and my PC cannot bring the link up for me to get a good look at what I would be buying.I have Windows XP. I turned off any pop up blockers. My IE is 6.0 and my java is version 5.1.3810, both very updated. When I went to a website recommended on another thread with a similar problem I see my browser is not Javascript enabled but is Java Applet enabled. The link I tested it out on is...http://www.bodo.com/javame.htm
I have XP Pro installed on a spare computer. In the system configuration utility, under the services tab, I disabled all services - then restarted the computer. How can I undo these changes? If I go to the system configuration utility and click on the services tab, I show only 5 services. How can i restore all the other services, short of reinstalling the OS?
How do you enable image pictures to display on the left-hand side of Favorites links instead of the blue "e" image that represents Internet Explorer? When I go to Favorites sometimes I have little images display at the beginning of the link title name. Maybe they are bitmap images that obviously came from the various linked websites. Sometimes I have them and sometimes they don't display. I believe whenever I cleanup my PC (removing Temp files, Cookies, Defraq, etc.) they go away for a while. Then all of a sudden I find that many of the images are displayed. Some never have images...I assume because an image if not available from the linked website.Same thing happens with the Google Toolbar dropdown boxes (for CNN, Google News, FOX News, MSNBC, etc.). Right now my Google News dropdown box (on my Google Toolbar) displays images of the current news articles, however the other dropdown boxes for CNN, etc. are missing the images (no red "X", just no images where they are supposed to be).
I have an HP dv9380ca laptop, that curently has windows Vista Ultimate. I hate it lol, not to start an argument discussing pros and cons of Vista....i just want to ask, since the HP website does not have a category of drivers for Windows XP x64 Drivers, i am wondering of the 32bit will be able to work with x64 xp?.
I'm currently running WinXP Pro (Build 2600) -- upgraded from Win 2000, and am unable to select different compatibility modes for programmes. It used to be that I could set it by right-clicking on the .exe of the programme I wanted to run under a different Win OS (Win 9x, NT etc.) and just click on the 'Compatibility' tab. That tab is no longer there.I also tried running the Compatibility Wizard (Start>All Programs>Accessories), but when that loads the buttons that should say 'Back', 'Next' and 'Exit' have no text on them. If I click the button that should say 'Exit' then the Wizard closes. However, clicking on either of the other two buttons does nothing so I am unable to go through the wizard. It's been several months since this happened, but I never really thought about it until recently because it wasn't until now that I wanted to put an old game on my system; but make no mistake, it's not just the game that won't do it, I can't set the compatibility for any program I have installed, or would want to install. System Restore doesn't go back far enough to try that, so I'm not sure what else to do. Possibly unrelated: At one point, I somehow managed to disable Task Manager; even manually replacing the file for it in the Windows directory didn't bring it back, although it did eventually return seemingly of its own accord. That may have been around the same time that I lost the compatibility ability, but I can't say for certain.
I have an OfficeJet 710, when I load something to scan, fax or copy the Document Manager box does not come up. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the printer but that doesn't help. I think my problem may be that when my computer was upgraded to Windows XP, they didn't include my printer therefore, it isn't compatible with my system.I can still copy, fax and print, but, only from the printer itself. Not from the Document Manager.
I have a typical 19" LCD monitor and a nvidia GeForce4 MX4000 video card. I would like to upgrade to a 22" Wide Screen LCD. I noticed that the max pixels on my present card is 1280x1024. I think the new LCD is 1680x1950. I am using Windows 2000 pro and the motherboard is a 2.4 Ghz. Do I need to get a new video card to support the new monitor? I use the computer for general stuff, day to day, like word processing, excel, and net surfing, nothing exotic or fast.
I use a program called "Ding" which connects me to the Southwest Airlines site and special pricing. Since installing IE 7 from the MS update site the program no longer works. The dialog box comes up but nothing happens when you click on a button to go to the site. Normally IE opens up and takes you to the site. I'm running Zone Alarm Internet security Suite and haven't changed anything in that program.
I have a laptop on wich I recently updated to SP3. I have had no problem what so ever, nore do I see any difference. I even have a D-Link wireless card and contrary to some saying it caused major problems after SP3, everything is working fine for me. I updated from SP2 to SP3 with Windows Update when prompted. Perhaps this is the key to possible problems. I read about people installing from a CD or iso image or downloading from whatever questionable website. Please do it the standard way and it should work ok. There seems to be a possible issue with AMD processors so try to get more info if you have this type of processor.
I still didn't install SP3 on my main computer at home and I don't quite understand why I don't even get prompted for it. But I can see it in Windows Update. I'll first test it on my laptop but unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to really fully test it because I have very few programs on it to check compatibility issues, compared to my main computer.
An XP machine. She down loaded explorer 7.0 and now she is having compatibility issues. She wants to go back to 6.o. What is the best way of doing this.
I have two desktops and one wireless notebook running on win xp home OS on a home network using router. My main issue is that I have one printer which I use for all the pc's running on home they all print and are recognized on the network. Am seriously considering buying this:http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech [...] MBB-643451 but would like confirmation of 2 things.1. Will my existing programs still work on this, that the 64 bit program compatibility is with the OS and not the hardware.2. Can I install this and run the "Repair" option. Will existing programs etc. work after it or should I do a clean Format and re-install.Currently using XP Pro with SP2 and all recent critical updates.
I am buying a new business computer to use SAGE and Photoshop CS4. The man in PC World said he didn't think SAGE would work with Windows 7 so recommended i buy a HP with XP built in for 580 with 22" monitor. The alternative is Acer Aspire x1301 and get a graphics card for it... Which should i go for to avoid problems with my programs working??
I installed Windows XP Pro SP2, and I need to unistall Service Pack 2 due to software compatibility issue with software.Article ID 875350 will not work.Is it possible to uninstall SP2 or could I use a Windows XP PRO SP1 with a SP2 product ID?
Windows XPI was putting in AdAware and F-Secure popped in.It had detected "Adware.P2PNetworking" and recommended quarantineIs this the AdAware? Or something sneaky trying to look like it so I'll let it in? Just to be safe, I OK'd the recommended Quarantine. Is that right, or should I let it out of uarantine?

I am considering building my first computer and would like to use Windows Media Center Edition. I've read it can be a little finicky with some hardware compatibility which I think I could handle, but is it hard for a first-timer to put together a reliable WMCE computer from a software standpoint? I have some experience but would not consider myself advanced by any means.
Ok, so I have netbook with a crack LCD, can not see anything..How the hack do I enable remote desktop without using it's local LCD..I need two things done, enable remote desktop and second enable dual monitor mode, so I can connect external monitor to VGA port
this is the best way I know to explain all of this. I am running a 3 yr old Gateway with Windows xp and Sp 1 & 2. I have always stayed up to date with my Windows updates deleting cookies, defrags and so on. I am running Avast anti virus and Armor 2 Net firewall. I have noticed over a period of about a mth that my system has been getting pretty slow to boot up and load up web pages. Now I am having to manually start my PC and I have to do it in safe mode F8 and click on debugging mode. If I don't do it this way then everything loads up and then my PC just turns itself off. I have PC doctor and I have done a complete diagnostic test and I have gone to antivirus.com and did a virus scan there as well as with my Avast. I am thinking that I may have to totally take everything out and reinstall everything back in. The only thing is -is that I don't know what to type in to get the whole thing going. Also I have been getting a message but only sometimes that says RTL cannot locate HPOIPMO7.exe (HPOIMO7.exe) I haven't a clue what this is. Might it have anything to do with what is going on. I don't mean to write a book here but there is one other thing, the other day I had a window pop up that said that windows needed me to reinstall my xp software and when I tried it said that the version that I was already running was newer than the cd software I was trying to install and wouldn't accept it.
