I wanted to enable the USB ports in the machine. I have gone through a lot of sites which says how to enable the USB ports by making changes in the registry and all, but all for vain.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRight, got a Toshiba A30-151, had XP Home OEM installed on it when it left the factory (so no install disk), finally got round to doing a reinstall (been messing about with OSX, needed clearing off and starting from scratch anyway). Some time ago a copy of XP Pro (fully legal) was posted through my door addressed to someone else, with no return address, so i kept it. anyway, thought i'd finallly use this and installed it, but now i have no option to hibernate the laptop? The hibernate tab is not there in power management. I know it's supported, as i could hibernate it before i reformatted and reinstalled. any way round this, other than using my mate's Home OEM disk and my serial to reinstall?

I tried changing the Power scheme and reinstall the graphics Driver but issue not resolved.

How can I undo these changes? If I go to the system configuration utility and click on the services tab, I show only 5 services. View 6 Replies View RelatedHow do you enable image pictures to display on the left-hand side of Favorites links instead of the blue "e" image that represents Internet Explorer? When I go to Favorites sometimes I have little images display at the beginning of the link title name. Maybe they are bitmap images that obviously came from the various linked websites. Sometimes I have them and sometimes they don't display. I believe whenever I cleanup my PC (removing Temp files, Cookies, Defraq, etc.) they go away for a while. Then all of a sudden I find that many of the images are displayed. Some never have images...I assume because an image if not available from the linked website.Same thing happens with the Google Toolbar dropdown boxes (for CNN, Google News, FOX News, MSNBC, etc.). Right now my Google News dropdown box (on my Google Toolbar) displays images of the current news articles, however the other dropdown boxes for CNN, etc. are missing the images (no red "X", just no images where they are supposed to be).

This app only uses the standard port 22.Is there anyway in XP for me to remap outbound port 22 to port 587? I found the firewall port settings but it will let you enter new ports and redirect them I believe but it won't let you edit any of the standard port settings.This is a tough one. I doubt there will be many, if any replies with a solution. But worth a shot.

Also the new device (I pluged in a flash memory drive) doesn't show up when I open "my computer". I think the ports are working cause when I pluged in my iPod and then went into the BIOS the iPOd was listed as an option on the Boot configuration.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a USB controller for some of my games, and I don't know how but after a while problems started to occur, and my controller would no long work properly so every time I booted up my PC I had to unplug it and plug it back into another port, and it would work. Now My controller doesn't work with any of the ports except 1, so now when I boot up the PC in order to use the controller I have to unplug and replug it into the usb port.

The unit has 3 built-in USB 1.1 ports and I added a USB 2.0 PCI Card for the external. I presently have an USB hub port hooked up to one of the USB 1.1 ports, which leaves the other 2 free. On the USB hub port I have an old HPScanjet 3300 scanner, an Intel Webcam and my Sony Cybershot camera. On the USB 2.0 PCI Card I have only my maxtor 200GB external. I am recently getting a balloon red x alert in my system tray that reads "Power surge on hub port" (A USB device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port)and what to do to solve the problem. When I click the message to solve the problem I see a question mark which I then highlight and hit reset.I follow the instructions to reset and it reappears.

So, several COM ports are assigned to the device and when I need to get at COM1 and COM9 to install a new device they are in use. Even un-installing the USB-serial adaptor does not free up the ports. What are the registry hacks that would allow these ports to be reused or shown to be free? Or is there some system mod software that would do it? I did find some registry entries but when I tried to delete the entries, Delete was not allowed.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I plug an ethernet wire from a router to the ethernet port on my computer, nothing seems to happen. There is no LAN option under my "network connections" either. My first guess is that I don't have the correct driver installed (or if I have one at all for the ethernet). Can anyone help me? I tried to open up the computer to see the brand of the Ethernet card but Some of the screws were stuck and I couldn't seem to open it. It is a Laptop running Windows XP by the way.
