I had this server installed by a technician as a file server. I tried to upgrade it a few times but the settings were so tight it wouldnt even allow automatic updates. There is no antivirus program on the server but all the worstations do. My problem now is that I can't log on to the server. It accepts my user and pass, prepares network connections, then I see the desktop for a second or two and then loops back to the logon screen (ctrl+alt+del). Many other owners have this same problem but I havent found anyone with a fix. I am able to access the server thru a workstation and found the server to have a virus (win32 Parite) which apparently does not damage the files. I have scanned it many times with AVG and at the end of the scan it says must reboot to heal, but since I am using a workstation to scan, it is the workstation that reboots and the virus is not healed. I have rebooted the server also by killing the battery but no luck.
i've installed my Win Xp Home using an nLite mastered image on which I selected my user to autologin on boot. Now I want to turn that off, and have the login screen at boot instead. Any hints on how I shall do it?
I have got windows server 2003 running on 1 of my pcs and i got other computers networked. and on my computers running windows 2000 i cant do remote desktop connection to those computers. Does anyone know how to do it?
Let assume that, in a disk we have 3-partition 1. in C: drive Windows 98 (FAT32), we install it first.2. in D: drive Windows 2003 Adv Server (NTFS), this was install 2nd.3. and, E: drive is FAT32, under Windows 98(FAT32)Now, all it works fine as dual boot, we will have menu at startup, there we can select the OS. Right. Now, if we install Windows 2000 Pro in C: Drive by means of format and install option. Windows 2000 is working fine. But we cant able to load Windows 2003 Adv server, when we select that in the boot select menu.
for some reason i am the only user on this computer but it just recently started not having it highlighted when booted... the first pic is what i am getting when booting now... and the 2nd one is what i used to get (which is what i want back) anybody know what the deal is?
I work from home and am stressing here! I was working on a file in Word and all of a sudden my cursor seemed to get "stuck" and was advancing rapidly. I unplugged the keyboard, the mouse, everything, and nothing would stop it. I thought it maybe needed to be rebooted, but when I did that, I got myself in a worse position because now it is STILL stuck and it won't let me enter my password in the sign-on area. (I had password protected it to keep my teenage daughter off the computer at times she wasn't allowed to be). So I can say it's not the keyboard or the mouse, because after unplugging them, it still types *something* all by itself into my signon box. And I can't get it to stop.
Get error message "The wizard could not connect to the Internet, or the Web service returned a wizard page that is not valid".What is causing this? How can it be fixed?
My hp pavilion laptop won't start up. It keeps getting stopped at the screen before I enter my username and password to log in. There's a sign that just keeps saying Please wait... (on top) Windows is starting up.... And it's stuck there, it won't get anywhere. I tried using the recovery disk, running chkdsk /r and fixboot but nothing happened, it's still the same thing
I am trying to connect a laptop to our network. When I first logged on a box came up asking for a Netware login (we don't use Novell). I went to the network adapters and unchecked Client Service for netware, NWLink NetBios and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBios and made sure the DHCP was checked for TCP/IP. I rebooted the laptop and went and tried to connect to the network, still came up with unable to connect, check domain name, etc. Is there anything else I can do or do I have to reload Windows XP?
My laptop is running XP SP2. There are two accounts created, one for myself and one for my partner. Both accounts have administrator privileges. Yesterday my partner was unable to login, as XP rejected every attempt with a "have you forgotten your password" balloon. I logged-in OK on my account, changed the password (but used the same value as before) on her account, then logged-out. This time she could log in OK. Same problem happened again this morning!! Once corrected as above, then she can login in/out without problem.
It is not the obvious things of finger-trouble, Caps Lock ON by mistake etc etc - checked all those. First time it occurred was shortly after a violent thunderstorm, so I wondered if electrical interference had caused a corruption somewhere, but everything else seems OK and there was not another storm this morning.
About 2 years ago my computer randomly shut down (I think because of a virus), and when I tried starting it back up, it would bootup fine, but I could never get past the XP Pro login screen. The passwords/accounts are fine. I only have one password-protected account, which is mine, and the password is still valid. I also have an additional account for my sister without a password. Whenever I try to login to either account, it displays the "Loading account settings." dialogue but doesn't do ANYTHING after that, it never logs in. I tried booting my computer into safemode, but then it gets to a login screen for Administrator, and apparently there's a password that I guess I set a long time ago, and I have no clue what it is and can't log in. I tried logging in WITHOUT putting an administrator password in since I know you can sometimes do that with XP Home, but I had no luck. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is there a way I can log in somehow? Is it a virus? Also, if I were to somehow get into the computer by setting up an additional XP partition, would I still have access to all of my files? THe reason I ask is because I saved a LOT of IMPORTANT work-related files into the "My Documents" folders for my account...is there a way I can access any of that?
Here's what's going on one of my computers (windows xp home professional I believe) I downloaded a pretty nasty virus by mistake and ran it (for some reason avg didnt detect it as a virus) well this virus may just of totaled my hard drive beyond repair I've researched on the web for people who have had it happen to them but found no easy answer. What happens is this:
1. I boot up computer 2. Computer gets all the way to loading bar 3. Quick Blue screen appears 4. BAM computer reboots endless cycle Now I've made myself a winxp recovery cd (never had one in the first place) and have tried various commands to bring my computer to a working state to no avail
chkdsk and chkdsk /r return with something like "the system has unrecoverable errors" bootcfg /rebuild returns with something about a problem with the file system and says to run chkdsk. I also tried a command to rebuild the boot.ini but it failed to. I have been successful at getting windows PE to run by booting to cd drive I tried chkdsk from there and still no good. Safe mode returns the same results btw so thats out of the question. ONE TIME I was able to start up windows in something like directory services mode but im not quite sure how :/ It just decided to show up on the menu with boot options on a try........
I dont know why, but ever since I've had XP, I've been unable to change the login sound. I saved a wav file in the same location as the default ones. I've applied the sound. But when I login, the default sound plays. I go back to the control panel it and says my sound should be set.

I really need your help to fix my computer. I have my company laptop with me, it's Dell Latitude D820 with Windows XP Pro installed on it. Recently my computer got some worm, but i ignored it, because i didn't think it was really a thread, however it actually opened the backdoor and downloaded some trojan (low risk - i don't remember the name of the virus), i noticed it when i connected my computer yesterday morning and the virus has been deleted by symantec anti virus. However i need to edit some registry on my computer, so i did that, i changed some of them, by the end of the day there was no problem at all

I tried to boot in safe mode and it still requires I click a user. I hit CNTRL+DEL+ALT twice to log on but it wouldnt take my password so I have no way to get into my system. On my laptop I have forgotten the password. And I can not log in into windows. I have tried all passwords that I could think of but I can't log in. Is there any possible way to access my computer again?
My Dell Inspiron 510m laptop comes up with that message every time i startup the computer. I can't even log in so can't do anything about viruses. I really have no idead about what to do.
I have windows XP Professional edition with Service pack 2 I am not able to login to windows..on login screen when I enter my password it shows Loading Presonal Settings..after that Logging off and again Login screen.
I bought a new system with XP OS. First time it is directly login into admin account.I created 2 more users on this system and created password for admin user. But when I switch on computer, It directly login into Admin user.Once I log off it is coming welcome screen and asking selecting user and Password.
What happened is I just installed a new Hard Drive and a fresh windows install (XP Pro with Service pack 3). After all was installed it logged into my account (Me) which was my account with Administrator privileges. I did a series of windows updates now when I turn my computer on it goes straight to the Administrator account and not my account (me). So I have to log off or switch accounts from Admin to Me. I just want it to login to Me all the time. So I am not smart enough to figure it out.
Please help urgently as I am not able to login. After inputting my password it says loading user configuration and after that it again jumps back to login screen.
I'm using Win XP sp2 and I usually leave my computer on 24/7. This morning I tried to open a file but it never opened. I went into the task manager to see if its even processing and it was there but the ccapp was taking all the cpu. So i tried to shutdown and restart. After that windows boots up to the login screen just fine but when i click on my account it take a long time to show my wallpaper. I can pull up task manager and the cpu isnt being used. the hdd is only accessed in little bursts. After a while the start menu pops up. any keyboard commands like to bring up win explorer takes a long time and all the commands pop up in a big burp of of command executions. I'm trying to reach system restore but cant. I'm not sure how to get into safemode with this system because just after post when f8 is usually used to bring up the menu the system opens a boot drive selection screen. During the RAM tests during post theres text stating press del to enter bios and f8 to enter boot drive selection so im not sure how to get to safemode now.
I have Windows Server 2003 on my laptop and would like to 'downgrade' it with Windows XP Professional. The CD-ROM (XP OS nstallation) does not allow my to INSTALL XP (cannot select the on) maybe because downgrades are not allowed. I also tried to reformat my hard-disk and install XP from scratch. My laptop have just one drive (C: drive). When I force to boot from my CD-ROM (BIOS settings), nothing happens Boot error
A few of our DNS servers are reporting Event ID 3000 periodically. Full logging is on. There are no failure entries prior to the event. I can not find much on TechNet either. I see that this is a problem for others in other forums, but I could not find a resolution on any site. Anyone have a cause and resolution? Details of the error entry:
The DNS server has encountered numerous run-time events. To determine the initial cause of these run-time events, examine the DNS server event log entries that precede this event. To prevent the DNS server from filling the event log too quickly, subsequent events with Event IDs higher than 3000 will be suppressed until events are no longer being generated at a high rate.
