Each time i start my computer up, and when i press Ctrl, Alt, Del. My Username Is Already There. Is There a Solution to Just make that Username: Blank box so i can type it myself, because my family use it aswell & it becomes annoying to backspace the name out all the time.I Got a picture from the web, for an example so you know what i mean, it might be helpful.

The field seems to be missing and, the login administrators names is in its place. It cannot be used for the walk in public because we do not want people to use that system for the simple reason of security. Is there a way to bring up the login field? The password field opens up.Why does xp show the color user login icons when it comes to this window after loging in? I would like the user not administrators name to pop up in the login name field every time. and can group pilicy template be moved from one xp desktop to another for replication purpouses? Tried of users adding software and making changes to desktop or OS.

I already have an existing workgroup and wanted to change the computer from my office domain to my home workgroup. I went into control panel and took it off the domain and put it on my workgroup. I went to start it this morning and I am unable to log in. XP asks me for a password and I try to enter my old office password and it doesn't log in. I tried logging in as Administrator w/ no password, as "kitchen" with no password, and without any username or password at all and none of them let me log in. How do I get back into my computer?!?!?!?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSince yesterday, my computer is not showing the user profiles and I am not able to log-in to my Win XP laptop. I tried loggin into the 'safe mode' or 'last saved configuration' but both of them also stop at the page where the user profiles show up. Probably, my user profiles got corrupted or something. Is there any easy way to log-in into the laptop and create new user profile? Otherwise, I will try repairing the O.S or installing a second O.S and backing up the data before re-formatting everything.
View 5 Replies View RelatedNormally when I turn on my computer, it loads and logs in automatically and doesn't need to show the login screen. But today when I turn it on, it goes to the login screen. So I click my name which is Compaq_Owner, and it logs me in. I see a quick flash of my background of my desktop with no icons, and then it goes back to the login screen and logs me out. It says "Saving Personal Settings" and "Logging Out" . Then I am back at the log in screen. I do not get any errors, just this. I have tried Safe Mode and making a different account I can log into, but it doesn't work. I did a system restore to Monday, 2 days before it started this. I then log in and it does the same thing all over again. I have also restarted and tried to log in, but that doesn't work either.

That's done, but when I reboot, I still get the XP Pro login box. No password is required, but I still have to press enter to move on. I'd like to get rid of this.Also, when I press control+alt+delete I am brought again to the goofy XP Pro menu where I can choose to bring up the task manager, lock my computer, change password, shutdown, etc. I'd like for this too, to be gone. But then i got GAIN from i think some codec i got online, and then my cpu usage used to jump up to 100% quite frequently. I attempted to look online as to how to remove GAIN from my computer,It has some changes to the registry which i did without making backup of it. So now my login screen will not appear i can not get into any mode, i.e. safe mode i cant restore my computer (even though i dont want to) because system restore is off

Nobody was in the room while the XP software was installing, and I didn't create a password for my account (I didn't even have the option), so absolutely nobody at my house knows what the password is. I already checked the documentation that came with the software and it doesn't mention any password.
I have been searching for cure for my sister's laptop. It is a Presario 2500, with 512 mb of ram. I recently restored the operating system (3-4 weeks ago) because of a virus she got. She said she shut down her computer yesterday using start>turn off computer>restart. When the computer went to restart, it freezes completely on the blue "windows is starting" screen immediately before the login screen. The computer was restarted again and froze at the same screen. I tried to have her start in safe-mode and last-known configuration to no avail.

When PC boots up, it gets as far as the Windows XP startup screen with the line top and bottom and thats it! no login names are displayed or anything. Mouse moves and KB is not locked. ctrl-alt-del does not display the login page either. I tried in safe mode with same results.

I can bring up its login page if I connect the office Windows 2000 PC directly to it via an ethernet cable and type the router IP address in the address line in Internet Explorer.However, at home, if I connect my Windows XP Home edition PC directly to the router with the same ethernet cable, and use the same router IP addreess to try and access the login page, it cannnot access it.The onboard etherent connection is working and I have the same network protocols installed on the XP PC, and have disabled the Windows Firewall but I still cannot bring up the login page.

With the fire walls on each machine switched off I can see each of the machines from each other.I can share files on the laptop with the desktop, but when I try to access the desktop from the laptop I get the following message : xxxxxxx is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource.

I work from home and am stressing here! I was working on a file in Word and all of a sudden my cursor seemed to get "stuck" and was advancing rapidly. I unplugged the keyboard, the mouse, everything, and nothing would stop it. I thought it maybe needed to be rebooted, but when I did that, I got myself in a worse position because now it is STILL stuck and it won't let me enter my password in the sign-on area. (I had password protected it to keep my teenage daughter off the computer at times she wasn't allowed to be). So I can say it's not the keyboard or the mouse, because after unplugging them, it still types *something* all by itself into my signon box. And I can't get it to stop.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had this server installed by a technician as a file server. I tried to upgrade it a few times but the settings were so tight it wouldnt even allow automatic updates. There is no antivirus program on the server but all the worstations do. My problem now is that I can't log on to the server. It accepts my user and pass, prepares network connections, then I see the desktop for a second or two and then loops back to the logon screen (ctrl+alt+del). Many other owners have this same problem but I havent found anyone with a fix. I am able to access the server thru a workstation and found the server to have a virus (win32 Parite) which apparently does not damage the files. I have scanned it many times with AVG and at the end of the scan it says must reboot to heal, but since I am using a workstation to scan, it is the workstation that reboots and the virus is not healed. I have rebooted the server also by killing the battery but no luck.

I am trying to connect a laptop to our network. When I first logged on a box came up asking for a Netware login (we don't use Novell). I went to the network adapters and unchecked Client Service for netware, NWLink NetBios and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBios and made sure the DHCP was checked for TCP/IP. I rebooted the laptop and went and tried to connect to the network, still came up with unable to connect, check domain name, etc. Is there anything else I can do or do I have to reload Windows XP?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is running XP SP2. There are two accounts created, one for myself and one for my partner. Both accounts have administrator privileges. Yesterday my partner was unable to login, as XP rejected every attempt with a "have you forgotten your password" balloon. I logged-in OK on my account, changed the password (but used the same value as before) on her account, then logged-out. This time she could log in OK. Same problem happened again this morning!! Once corrected as above, then she can login in/out without problem.
It is not the obvious things of finger-trouble, Caps Lock ON by mistake etc etc - checked all those. First time it occurred was shortly after a violent thunderstorm, so I wondered if electrical interference had caused a corruption somewhere, but everything else seems OK and there was not another storm this morning.
About 2 years ago my computer randomly shut down (I think because of a virus), and when I tried starting it back up, it would bootup fine, but I could never get past the XP Pro login screen. The passwords/accounts are fine. I only have one password-protected account, which is mine, and the password is still valid. I also have an additional account for my sister without a password. Whenever I try to login to either account, it displays the "Loading account settings." dialogue but doesn't do ANYTHING after that, it never logs in. I tried booting my computer into safemode, but then it gets to a login screen for Administrator, and apparently there's a password that I guess I set a long time ago, and I have no clue what it is and can't log in. I tried logging in WITHOUT putting an administrator password in since I know you can sometimes do that with XP Home, but I had no luck. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is there a way I can log in somehow? Is it a virus? Also, if I were to somehow get into the computer by setting up an additional XP partition, would I still have access to all of my files? THe reason I ask is because I saved a LOT of IMPORTANT work-related files into the "My Documents" folders for my account...is there a way I can access any of that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHere's what's going on one of my computers (windows xp home professional I believe) I downloaded a pretty nasty virus by mistake and ran it (for some reason avg didnt detect it as a virus) well this virus may just of totaled my hard drive beyond repair I've researched on the web for people who have had it happen to them but found no easy answer. What happens is this:
1. I boot up computer
2. Computer gets all the way to loading bar
3. Quick Blue screen appears
4. BAM computer reboots endless cycle
Now I've made myself a winxp recovery cd (never had one in the first place) and have tried various commands to bring my computer to a working state to no avail
chkdsk and chkdsk /r return with something like "the system has unrecoverable errors"
bootcfg /rebuild returns with something about a problem with the file system and says to run chkdsk. I also tried a command to rebuild the boot.ini but it failed to. I have been successful at getting windows PE to run by booting to cd drive I tried chkdsk from there and still no good. Safe mode returns the same results btw so thats out of the question. ONE TIME I was able to start up windows in something like directory services mode but im not quite sure how :/ It just decided to show up on the menu with boot options on a try........
I dont know why, but ever since I've had XP, I've been unable to change the login sound. I saved a wav file in the same location as the default ones. I've applied the sound. But when I login, the default sound plays. I go back to the control panel it and says my sound should be set.

1) WinXp splash screen is presented and a user login shown.
2) Click on user name.. and message "loading settings" then almost immediately.. a message "saving Settings" then back to login selection.
3) There is from time to time a brief flash at the desktop background .. then it appears to log out.
i am not able change the settings in My Folders options..Everytime i click on Show Hidden Files..nothing happens..and my radio buttons do not check any of the two options.i.e Show hidden files & do not show hidden files..also i have tried to change the value of CheckedValue in regedit to 1..but everytime its comes back to 2...i think there is some virus thats doing it.

Recently my computer got some worm, but i ignored it, because i didn't think it was really a thread, however it actually opened the backdoor and downloaded some trojan (low risk - i don't remember the name of the virus), i noticed it when i connected my computer yesterday morning and the virus has been deleted by symantec anti virus. However i need to edit some registry on my computer, so i did that, i changed some of them, by the end of the day there was no problem at all
