I dont know why, but ever since I've had XP, I've been unable to change the login sound. I saved a wav file in the same location as the default ones. I've applied the sound. But when I login, the default sound plays. I go back to the control panel it and says my sound should be set.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsed a program to change the SID. I then realized that it was not what I wanted to do so I saved my original SID in a text. Once the change completed I rebooted and it started loading a new login and applying new personal settings. I then opened the change SID program and reloaded my original SID and ran the program. Once that was finished I rebooted and now I cannot log in. It says to make sure that the domain is correct and to retype the password but nothing works.

The system could not log you on. make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again. letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case".If I then replace "administrator" with my name (no password), it logs me in.I don't know what I did to change the login protocol

To make a long story short his username and password are still in the computer. I have no way of getting in contact with him and he hasn't contacted his parents yet either. Is there a way I can change the login password or bypass it even? Remember I'm running XP Pro.

On the tree open GIFDATA>103>1033. You should see your current sign on graphic. I would suggest backing up this graphic in case you ever want to go change it back. Once you have another graphic edited to go in its place, open the Action menu and click on "Replace other Resourse..." Open your new graphic in the area given... Then copy in this info: Resourse Type: GIFDATAResoures Name: 103Resourse Language: 1033 Then click "Replace" and Save. Another cool thing you can do from ResHacker with aimres.dll is edit some of the dialog AIM uses. Open the dialog portion of the tree and costumize some of the messages and screens used in AIM.

View 7 Replies View RelatedOn the windows login screen, right below my login name, there is a little note that says how many new mail messages I have- This however was set up by my ex-boyfriend under his hotmail account. I'd like to change it to one of my accounts if possible, (I primarily use a university based webmail account), and if I can't change it to anything but hotmail or msn then I would like to remove it.
I haven't been able to figure out where to find this setting.
I seem to get an error message C:Windowsdsr.dll when windows is running and I attempt to change or login with a specific desktop user profile. Does anyone have any thoughts? I also noticed that the virus software, althought up-to-date with subscription and definitions, was disabled. This is an additional backup work station at the office of my employment and is used by many different people. One of those individuals must have disabled Norton about 45 days ago.

I want to set the sound scheme to 'no sounds'. I go to 'sounds and audio device properties' and the sounds tab and select no sounds, apply, ok. However, the sounds continue. When i go back to the properties box it is still on 'no sounds' setting, but when i scroll down the list of events, there is the speaker symbol by every event below netmeeting. I have tried to change these each to no sound, but they reset. I am running XPSP3. I just reinstalled XP and there are these problems. What's going on? Seeing as I don't want sounds at all, would deleting the sound files from the system be a solution? (Where are they located?)
View 11 Replies View RelatedI work from home and am stressing here! I was working on a file in Word and all of a sudden my cursor seemed to get "stuck" and was advancing rapidly. I unplugged the keyboard, the mouse, everything, and nothing would stop it. I thought it maybe needed to be rebooted, but when I did that, I got myself in a worse position because now it is STILL stuck and it won't let me enter my password in the sign-on area. (I had password protected it to keep my teenage daughter off the computer at times she wasn't allowed to be). So I can say it's not the keyboard or the mouse, because after unplugging them, it still types *something* all by itself into my signon box. And I can't get it to stop.

Playing music and it sounded fine then i went to listen to the same song about 2hrs later and it sounded like the vocals were quieter then the back ground then it got worse and worse until now it sounds like a bunch of computer scramble I'm running Windows Xp professional on AMD athlon with what I'm assuming is a legacy sound card.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had this server installed by a technician as a file server. I tried to upgrade it a few times but the settings were so tight it wouldnt even allow automatic updates. There is no antivirus program on the server but all the worstations do. My problem now is that I can't log on to the server. It accepts my user and pass, prepares network connections, then I see the desktop for a second or two and then loops back to the logon screen (ctrl+alt+del). Many other owners have this same problem but I havent found anyone with a fix. I am able to access the server thru a workstation and found the server to have a virus (win32 Parite) which apparently does not damage the files. I have scanned it many times with AVG and at the end of the scan it says must reboot to heal, but since I am using a workstation to scan, it is the workstation that reboots and the virus is not healed. I have rebooted the server also by killing the battery but no luck.

I tried using the recovery disk, running chkdsk /r and fixboot but nothing happened, it's still the same thing
I've used programs like Style XP or Theme XP but non of them have the theme I want. I want windows to look the way it does when you chose Start Shut down. Basically a greyscale theme is what I'm looking for. I realize that sounds wierd but maybe someone out there already has it and they wouldn't mind pointing me to where it can be found.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect a laptop to our network. When I first logged on a box came up asking for a Netware login (we don't use Novell). I went to the network adapters and unchecked Client Service for netware, NWLink NetBios and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBios and made sure the DHCP was checked for TCP/IP. I rebooted the laptop and went and tried to connect to the network, still came up with unable to connect, check domain name, etc. Is there anything else I can do or do I have to reload Windows XP?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is running XP SP2. There are two accounts created, one for myself and one for my partner. Both accounts have administrator privileges. Yesterday my partner was unable to login, as XP rejected every attempt with a "have you forgotten your password" balloon. I logged-in OK on my account, changed the password (but used the same value as before) on her account, then logged-out. This time she could log in OK. Same problem happened again this morning!! Once corrected as above, then she can login in/out without problem.
It is not the obvious things of finger-trouble, Caps Lock ON by mistake etc etc - checked all those. First time it occurred was shortly after a violent thunderstorm, so I wondered if electrical interference had caused a corruption somewhere, but everything else seems OK and there was not another storm this morning.
About 2 years ago my computer randomly shut down (I think because of a virus), and when I tried starting it back up, it would bootup fine, but I could never get past the XP Pro login screen. The passwords/accounts are fine. I only have one password-protected account, which is mine, and the password is still valid. I also have an additional account for my sister without a password. Whenever I try to login to either account, it displays the "Loading account settings." dialogue but doesn't do ANYTHING after that, it never logs in. I tried booting my computer into safemode, but then it gets to a login screen for Administrator, and apparently there's a password that I guess I set a long time ago, and I have no clue what it is and can't log in. I tried logging in WITHOUT putting an administrator password in since I know you can sometimes do that with XP Home, but I had no luck. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is there a way I can log in somehow? Is it a virus? Also, if I were to somehow get into the computer by setting up an additional XP partition, would I still have access to all of my files? THe reason I ask is because I saved a LOT of IMPORTANT work-related files into the "My Documents" folders for my account...is there a way I can access any of that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHere's what's going on one of my computers (windows xp home professional I believe) I downloaded a pretty nasty virus by mistake and ran it (for some reason avg didnt detect it as a virus) well this virus may just of totaled my hard drive beyond repair I've researched on the web for people who have had it happen to them but found no easy answer. What happens is this:
1. I boot up computer
2. Computer gets all the way to loading bar
3. Quick Blue screen appears
4. BAM computer reboots endless cycle
Now I've made myself a winxp recovery cd (never had one in the first place) and have tried various commands to bring my computer to a working state to no avail
chkdsk and chkdsk /r return with something like "the system has unrecoverable errors"
bootcfg /rebuild returns with something about a problem with the file system and says to run chkdsk. I also tried a command to rebuild the boot.ini but it failed to. I have been successful at getting windows PE to run by booting to cd drive I tried chkdsk from there and still no good. Safe mode returns the same results btw so thats out of the question. ONE TIME I was able to start up windows in something like directory services mode but im not quite sure how :/ It just decided to show up on the menu with boot options on a try........
I'm unable to login to a computer.
1) WinXp splash screen is presented and a user login shown.
2) Click on user name.. and message "loading settings" then almost immediately.. a message "saving Settings" then back to login selection.
3) There is from time to time a brief flash at the desktop background .. then it appears to log out.
EX-office laptop, and everytime it boots up the Windows 2000 logon screen comes up. How do I get rid of this?

Recently my computer got some worm, but i ignored it, because i didn't think it was really a thread, however it actually opened the backdoor and downloaded some trojan (low risk - i don't remember the name of the virus), i noticed it when i connected my computer yesterday morning and the virus has been deleted by symantec anti virus. However i need to edit some registry on my computer, so i did that, i changed some of them, by the end of the day there was no problem at all
