I want to change the sound of my new mail notification. I checked the 'help' info on the control panel and got this---To assign sounds to program events
1.. Open Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel.
2.. On the Sounds tab, in the Program events list, click the program event
to which you want to assign a sound
I can't get any sound to play when new Outlook Express email arrives. I use XP Media Center 2005. There is a sound icon in front of, New Mail Notification, & the Chimes sound (which I chose) does play when I press the test button to the left of Browse. BUT, it does NOT play when new mail arrives and Outlook Express is open or minimized. All other program default sounds do play. Also, with Outlook Express open, I clicked on Tools, Options, General, and there IS a check mark in front of, Play Sound When New Message Arrives. Is there something else that I should do to make the Chimes sound play when new email arrives?
I want to replace my standard mail notification with a wav file I've downloaded.
I went to; control panel/sounds and audio devices/sounds,and replaced it. It plays fine when I get mail, but the old notification plays after it.I removed the old notification before adding the new wav file and it still is happening.
start computer, I hear the System Notification Sound on my computer. I have watched the system tray area several times hoping to see what is causing the sound but haven't seen a screen message. I have googled and searched Microsoft, but can't find a list of items that would cause a System Notification sound to be heard. Can anyone point me in the direction or web page?
When you send a link through your browser, it defaults to Outlook. Is there a way to change the default to say Yahoo Mail. If not, how do I fix Outlook to make my Optimum Online connection the way Outlook connects, not my old dialup?
I store *.EML files in various folders around my computer, and I use Outlook Exress File/Save As feature, to do this. Each time I open these files from within these folders, Windows Live Mail takes control. I have been trying to change the File Association, but I cannot find Outlook Express, listed anywhere.
I upgraded to Windows Live Mail and now am unable to view my previous e-mails in my hot mail account that i have had for years. How do i retrieve these e-mails that i believe are still on the server?
I don't know what happened, but my default e-mail program in MS Word changed by itself and now when I try to send to and mail recipient it uses Outlook instead of Outlook Express like I originally had setup.
I want to set the sound scheme to 'no sounds'. I go to 'sounds and audio device properties' and the sounds tab and select no sounds, apply, ok. However, the sounds continue. When i go back to the properties box it is still on 'no sounds' setting, but when i scroll down the list of events, there is the speaker symbol by every event below netmeeting. I have tried to change these each to no sound, but they reset. I am running XPSP3. I just reinstalled XP and there are these problems. What's going on? Seeing as I don't want sounds at all, would deleting the sound files from the system be a solution? (Where are they located?)
Playing music and it sounded fine then i went to listen to the same song about 2hrs later and it sounded like the vocals were quieter then the back ground then it got worse and worse until now it sounds like a bunch of computer scramble I'm running Windows Xp professional on AMD athlon with what I'm assuming is a legacy sound card.
I dont know why, but ever since I've had XP, I've been unable to change the login sound. I saved a wav file in the same location as the default ones. I've applied the sound. But when I login, the default sound plays. I go back to the control panel it and says my sound should be set.
I've used programs like Style XP or Theme XP but non of them have the theme I want. I want windows to look the way it does when you chose Start Shut down. Basically a greyscale theme is what I'm looking for. I realize that sounds wierd but maybe someone out there already has it and they wouldn't mind pointing me to where it can be found.
my Mom's computer is a HP Pavilion, she's using Windows XP (the original version and she hasn't updated from Microsoft since. when exactly did dinosaurs roam the earth? ) About two weeks ago, every time that she reboots it locks up the computer and you can hear the motor running constantly. When you go to shut it down a window comes up and asks for you to wait or end task, and the error is "Device10 Notification". The ONLY thing that she has put in recently is the HP 4 in 1 Copy/Scan/Print, but that was, at least, two weeks before the problem started. There is YET another error message that appears every once in a while, it's for HP Imaging Device, and you have to end task to get it to shut down, but this isn't a constant problem like the device10 is.
Like alot of people that build their own systems or constantly upgrade and switch out parts, I use a cracked copy of Windows XP on some of my builds. These are my own builds and if someone wants a new PC, the price of a genuine Windows OS is included in the price and they are given the disk. It is because of Microsofts asinine activation feature and the fact that I have 4 desktops and 2 laptops that I use the cracked copy. Anyways, my girlfriends dad's (a cop )laptop recently had a hard drive failure, and because he bought it with Windows preinstalled(no disk) he needed an OS. He didn't know any better and when I went over there last night to check on his laptop, up pops the MS genuine notification that has recently gone around.
for a while when we first turn on our laptop it won't work, it is not responding. However, the windows task manager does not show anything not responding. My only way to fix this problem is to tell the computer to restart & I will then get a "not responding" message saying that "socket notification sink" is not responding. I tell it to end the program & restart & I sometimes have to go through this over & over & over again until the computer is responding. The biggest part of the problem is that I do not know what the heck "socket notification sink" is! And if I do a search for it nothing comes up & I don't see it in the programs in the control panel & I never see it on the "processes" tab of the windows task manager. Can anyone help? What is it, do I need it, how do I deal with this? I just need the frickin' computer to work when I turn it on, I don't have time for this some days!
I would like to remove items from the notification bar near to the clock on the taskbar. I have several items that come on every time I boot up that don't need to be there, when I want them I know where to find them.

Whenever I turn on my computer, I get this error message saying "Microsoft Advanced Notification Error" This just started a few says ago. I went into the event viewer
I hope someone can help me with an error I keep on getting. I regularly get socket notification errors when Im using Mozilla, Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. When they happen, I am unable to access the internet until I reboot.
I upgraded from SP1 to SP2.Then I went to Microsoft's update site. All installed fine except the genuine advantage notification tool. I have been on the phone with Micro$oft for almost an hour, speaking with people in Phillipines and India.
This is third time that Windows genuine advantage notification (KB905474) is installed on my PC in the last six weeks or so. Is this happening to others as well? Also, when I check in "Add/Delete" I only see the last one being installed... the entry for the two previous ones are deleted.
I have already installed Windows "Genuine Advantage" Notification on my XP Pro machine. The last three days Windows Update has been asking me to install this "advantage" again. How can I get the gold shield off my taskbar?
I have read the previous posts of the blue wallpaper coming up where you are infected with spyware. I have been cursed with this happenening to me. I have your directions but I must know what to do about my hijacthis log file. I need to know what to fix. Here is my log file. I will really appreciate if you can help me as soon as you have time. My computer is where I run my business and I am freaking out.
I have been looking for a good notification program forever. I've tried just about the first 10 pages of hits on google. It's either they don't have multiple account support or they don't work with gmail and thats what i need. I'm using outlook and i really like it. I've heard people say that there is a notification tool built into outlook but i can't figure out how to work it.
The default behavior for XP (SP3) is to run chkdsk at reboot as necessary. At this time it may find and automatically repair errors. In my case the "repair" was to delete an important folder (which I fortunately had a backup of.) After Windows comes up, there is NO NOTIFICATION that this has occurred. So if your drive is slowly going bad and you don't babysit your reboots (and make sure you can read fast), Windows may be deleting your data and you will never know about it. Over time your backups may become corrupted, unless you are diligent with archival backups.
New (3 months) Dell Vostro 1000 with Windows XP Professional. Last few days when trying to shut down I'm getting an error message "Device 10 Notification" with the option to cancel or end task. Either choice leads me to the same issue that the program is not responding. Sometimes the computer goes ahead and shuts down anyway, other times I have to shut down without ending the program.
