Device 10 Notification - System Shutdown Automatically
Apr 9, 2008
New (3 months) Dell Vostro 1000 with Windows XP Professional. Last few days when trying to shut down I'm getting an error message "Device 10 Notification" with the option to cancel or end task. Either choice leads me to the same issue that the program is not responding. Sometimes the computer goes ahead and shuts down anyway, other times I have to shut down without ending the program.
my Mom's computer is a HP Pavilion, she's using Windows XP (the original version and she hasn't updated from Microsoft since. when exactly did dinosaurs roam the earth? ) About two weeks ago, every time that she reboots it locks up the computer and you can hear the motor running constantly. When you go to shut it down a window comes up and asks for you to wait or end task, and the error is "Device10 Notification". The ONLY thing that she has put in recently is the HP 4 in 1 Copy/Scan/Print, but that was, at least, two weeks before the problem started. There is YET another error message that appears every once in a while, it's for HP Imaging Device, and you have to end task to get it to shut down, but this isn't a constant problem like the device10 is.
I am running a computer on Windows XP originally designed for Windows 98. Once I put it on there everytime I go to shutdown the computer will say "It is safe to turn off your computer" and I have to shut it down manually by the power button. The older operating systems would shut down automatically when I went to shut down but for some reason XP won't on this computer. How can I make the computer shutdown automatically?
I deleted some files which I assumed would go to the Recycle Bin. When I later decided to remove them completely they were not there. Does the Recycle Bin empty automatically on Shutdown? I have not selected the "Delete Immediately" option. I have since checked the Recycle Bin whenever I have deleted files and they do appear in the Recycle Bin but are gone when I shutdown and reboot. I thought files were supposed to stay there until I emptied the Bin in case I want to restore them. Have I altered the settings in some way and can I change them back?
. When I choose to shutdown, it tells me it's shutting down but then restarts. It gave me the option to go back to the last settings that worked, which solved the problem for a little while. Then it started doing it again, and I have no idea why it keeps restarting.
I have a problem with my computer. When I start my computer, I get an error message that reads: "Cannot Create Shell Notification System Icon" I dont know what is it, I think that has something to do with the icons on the toolbar, in fact, when my computer starts with that message, quite icons in toolbar disappear. I tried to restore system and nothing happens, except that the all icons appear again, but when I restart the computer they disappear again. I have already pass all antivirus and all programs related to cleaning, everything.
I'm running window xp, and these folders are taking up a lot space on my hard disk, hence I would like to know is it ok to delete all these folders? I have attached the image with this post, please take a look. Also does it have any side effects after deleting them?
My computer has been quite slow this past few days and my friend said low disk space can reduce a computer's performance. I installed Windows XP in a 20GB partition and it has 3GB free space left.
start computer, I hear the System Notification Sound on my computer. I have watched the system tray area several times hoping to see what is causing the sound but haven't seen a screen message. I have googled and searched Microsoft, but can't find a list of items that would cause a System Notification sound to be heard. Can anyone point me in the direction or web page?
For the past few days my pc has been shutting down on me after every boot. It happens about 5 minutes after each reboot. I was searching through the forum and i found the exact same problem,http://forums.techguy.org/security/5...atus-code.html .but im not sure if i am to follow the same procedures as i have a different pc.
I use xp pro and have Microsoft PLUS installed wich gives me a few extra themes to choose from. Everything works great except when i log in or out of windows i dont get any sounds, no matter what theme i use. It used to work fine and i am not sure exactly when it stopped.
I checked my sounds configuration and i can play the start up and shutdown sounds by testing them but they wont work when actually starting or shutting down windows. Even if i just use the regular XP theme i still dont get any sound.
Pc keeps shutting down, and a blue screen appears which says windows has shutdown to prevent damage too my pc. its happeneing all the time i have not a clue whats wrong with it, and i have recently sent it in too be fixed but its come back in the same state.
I am having a problem with my computer shutingdown when I am on the internet. I will be searching and all of a sudden my computer will start a shutdown it says that the NT Authority system caused the shutdown. How do I fix this problem? I downloade Registry Repair Pro and ran a scan to fix all the problems on my computer but this is still happening.
I'm not too knowledgeable about the technical side of computing, so please bear with me.I'm running Windows XP Professional (SP2) on an AMD Athlon XP 3200+. My grandson showed me a game called Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, which I fell in love with and subsequently bought for my own computer. As I only had 'on board' graphics, the game obviously wouldn't run, so I bought an Nvidia 6200 graphics card.Following the instructions which came with it, I installed the card successfully. The only thing I couldn't do was disable the 'on board' graphics, but as my computer recognised the new card automatically, I went ahead and installed the driver. The new card didn't need an extra power source, as there was no connector on it. Incidentally, I did find the 'on board' graphics in the System > Properties list, but nothing happens when I click on it, so I assume I can't disable it.
Everything appeared to work well and I got the Roller Coaster game up and running beautifully. Some time later, after I had closed the game and gone on to other things, I needed to restart my computer, so I went through the usual restart sequence.Things went well at first but some way through the Windows XP loading screen, where the little blue bars scroll across, my computer simply switched off, totally! I tried again (obviously from a cold boot this time), but the same thing happened. To cut a long story short, I eventually removed the new card, and restored my system to a safe point, and it's now running perfectly again, although I can't play my game now.I'd be really grateful for any advice you can offer as to what the problem might be, as I want to build some more roller coasters!
When CPU usage gets to 100% it will shutdown without notice. I think it may be because I need to run disk clean up, not sure. This computer is old and I fixed it myself, that's why I think running disk cleanup will help, but when i run disk cleanup my usage goes right up to 100%.
When shutting down my laptop (Toshiba Satellite, Windows XP), I get the "end program" box that says MCCWSA will not shut down. This box stays on screen until I click end now. This is something that started recently and I can shut down by clicking the "end now" button. If I don't click the end now button the computer does not shut down. This is very annoying. It seems to have started when I cannot get online and a verizon box pops up and asks if I wish for them to check my computer. When I say yes they do and tell me everything is ok. This is a waste.
Getting an error message that goes STOP: 0x0000008E. Everytime i try to shut down or restart. I was also getting alot of Buffer Overflow Blocked warnings from mcafee before i uninstalled and used SpyBot Search And Destroy which has cleaned a couple trojans off of my comp that mcafee did not find.? Also everytime i open a program or even I.E. A seperate window opens up thats all text, And if i close that window the whole program closes.
Whenever I try to use internet explorer, it will close on its own after a little while, stated that and unexpected error has occured. I have internet explorer 7. When I try to open up various things in my documents or on my external hard drive, the same thing happens. I have deleted things that I no longer use, I have run a malware program twice, and I got a new antivirus program (Symantec) and ran it three times. This has not fixed the problem. I have downloaded Mozilla Firefox, and that works well for the Internet, but I still cant open other windows without them giving me an error and closing shortly after. It is driving me crazy
I just bought toshiba M70 1.7 512 40 GB with XP SP2 Home. It is just after few days that OS is not working well. Main problemis taht many times when I shut down after using some applications or internet, it does not respond. System hangs and it takes sometimes 5 to 10 minutes to shutdown after repeated commands for that. Many programmes are shows as NOT RESPONDING and some times even ccApp is shown not responding. Even once I had to remove battery to make it shut down by cutting off power supply. The main problem is on shutdown although system does hang up some times during use. I put following software in it.
MS antispyware, Spybot, bazooka, Clipboard Recorder, Free online meter, DU Traffic. MSN and Yahoo messenger, Google Talk, EUALyzer, 7-Zip, WinRAR trial, Opera, Spyware blaster, Google desktop sarch,Firefox with many extensions( flat style, popup master, popup sound, yes popup, tabbed browsing prefrences, colored tabs, no script, down them all, flashgot, dictionary tool tip, answers, google toolbar, yahoo toolbar, google preview, google safe browsing, netcraft toolbar, site advisor, IE tab, IE view, Tab mix plus, Text size toolbar, Google preview,A Timetracker, page zoom, and some themes) IE has sitehound toolbar, google and yahoo toolbar, site advisor, and clodmark toolbar. Don,t think this lot of stuff is the cause as i put almost same stuff on my friends desktop that ic celeron and it,s fine, no such problem. Also i downloaded some Icons from internet and used them to change Icons of some folders and desktop shortcut items via Properties Tab...............
My computer will not shut down. When I hit the "start" button and then select "shutdown" it goes through all of the motions, but then it reboots. It is almost as though it thinks that I am hitting the "restart" button instead of the "shutdown" button. When I followed the checklist in Windows, it suggested a restore point. I tried that but it said that I had made no changes to the computer since that restore point and therefore I could not use the restore point technique.
I am really without a clue, the only hardware modification I have done is install two more 512mb sticks of ram. I had two and installed 2 more all same type Kingston ValueRAM 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200). So now I am running 2 gigs of ram. It rebooted and I got the boots screen to choose type of boot.....last good config, ect....I chose normal and it gave me the xp windows screen with the horizontal progress graphic and then it kinda hangs on a black screen for a bit and finally it will give me the user/password window.
The ati2dvag display has stopped working normally. Save your work & reboot the system to restore full display functionality. The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to microsoft After computer is on 15 minutes or so it everytihng appears to be in safe mode. It isn't but that is what it looks like, words are HUGE Computer is also shutting off every 15 mintues or so, it is a new Toshiba Laptop which is running Windows XP.
Every time I either log off of an account or switch user, as soon as I enter the password on another account, they computer immediately restarts without warning. I'm running XP Pro?
I need a way to get my PC to turn on after 5 minutes if it's turned off accidentally. I have an FTP server running, and everything works once it's turned on ie it's configured to work upon startup, but the problem is, it's in my office, and people keep turning it off. How annoying. How can I get it to turn back on if anyone turns it off.
i remote into my XP box everything is fine except when i shut down using a shutdown shortcut and other shutdown utilities no matter what after i get booted off the remote session the computer looks like its shutting down then stays on for a few seconds then a BSOD appear. I have been trying to figure out why for the past week and no solution so im hoping someone can chime in..The problem is only on remote if i shut down locally never a single BSOD and no hardware has changed. No driver issues. ive read and tried all the usual solutions. Need someone here to chime in on specifics.Ive also tried to remote in with bare minimum and no go. same thing.
My dell 9100 got a virus (Trojan horse XP antivirus) I got it off but avg anti virus would not update could not change the screen saver it posted and began getting the dreaded blue death screen problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage. the stop message is 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0xf84ca245,oxf808d7b4,0x00000000). So i reformatted the hard drive and when I go to reload xp it does not recognize the dell xp/media edition dvd. I have an XP home edition so I tried it and it allows me to get to the point where you partition the drive and then i get the same error message
I have recently built and deployed an SBS 2003 server. Today I joined one of my machines to that newly created domain. In this process (adding to domain, redirecting My Docs, etc.) I lost the ability to logoff. Not exactly clear when that happened, but the current state is no good.I cannot log off using the start menu items. When the logoff or shutdown dialogs come up I can click the OK or Log Off and the dialog goes away, but nothing happens. I have looked at the task manager and really nothing happens. CPU doesn't budge. I can continue working as long as I'd like.
