I need a way to get my PC to turn on after 5 minutes if it's turned off accidentally. I have an FTP server running, and everything works once it's turned on ie it's configured to work upon startup, but the problem is, it's in my office, and people keep turning it off. How annoying. How can I get it to turn back on if anyone turns it off.
View 12 RepliesI've got a laptop with windows XP. About a half hour ago, it shut itself off. When I tried to restart it, I got the error window that explains something went wrong, and offers to start it in normal mode or safe mode. I select normal mode, it'll show the loading screen, then shut itself off. Rinse, repeat, same result. This laptop is about 3 1/2 years old.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOkay so I usually leave my computer on all the time. I went to bed and when I got up it was off and couldn't get it to turn on. So I assumed it might be the power supply so I went and bought a new one from stamples. He turned on for maybe 5 seconds then turned off. so I took it back thinking maybe I didn't have enough watts. The higher watts didn't doanything. I am lost without my computer can anyone help? I have Win XP..Could it be the fan? Even though the fan worked when i plugged in first PS...Second didnt do anything. Could it be something to do with motherboard?

I installed SP4 after that.and anti virus software
Then i tried to update my system..there were around 50 odd updates.
but during the updation...my system reboot automatically.
I downloaded some windows updates but not all of them installed. When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.

Hi there,I am having problems with a few PC issues.
I am running XP media edition,service pack 3 and since Friday have been unable to turn on the firewall. (I get an error message saying the ICS is not running)
Also my theme has changed to windows classic from windows XP (modified) and when I trid to reset it the windows modified theme has vanished from my machine.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am really without a clue, the only hardware modification I have done is install two more 512mb sticks of ram. I had two and installed 2 more all same type Kingston ValueRAM 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200). So now I am running 2 gigs of ram. It rebooted and I got the boots screen to choose type of boot.....last good config, ect....I chose normal and it gave me the xp windows screen with the horizontal progress graphic and then it kinda hangs on a black screen for a bit and finally it will give me the user/password window.

The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to microsoft After computer is on 15 minutes or so it everytihng appears to be in safe mode. It isn't but that is what it looks like, words are HUGE Computer is also shutting off every 15 mintues or so, it is a new Toshiba Laptop which is running Windows XP.

So i did a little researching and figured out that no virus remover will be able to remove it since windows wouldn't allow me to delete or remove it in the first place.Thus the alternate method being the turning off of the system restore function and thereby deleting all system restore points. Although i came across a roadblock in that even though i am the administrator on my computer i am unable to check or uncheck the turn of system restore option in the system restore tab in the properties of My Computer.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI Installed Windows XP profesional 64 SP1,fresh Install, all was going Ok , the partitions were done ok , I made the boot floopy disc cuz it is a new System and formated the hard drive I installed drivers for the system ,but i noticed I was no getting sound since the staRT I though i was goin to be able to fix it forward as I was going trough the drivers etc. I opened Device Manager and saw I ther was a device with trouble,was the "MicrosoftUAA drivers for High Definition Audio" ok so I update drivers and Instal drivers from Motherboard disc . E-mail returned for one day, then everything went South. Can't get on-line, start menu doesn't open, can't open Macafee, can't turn off system restore. Programs seem to run OK. Downloaded various virus removers on another computer. Stinger indicated clear as did Microsoft Malicious Sotware Removal Package (August version). Macafee's bremove and kremove both stalled out.
