I woke up this morning and left the computer on from last night.The screen had red stripes going threw it and windows logo. So I push the power button to try and restart it and turn it off.So I turned it off the waited a few seconds and turn it back on.The lights came on and the fan came on but the computer never came on, it just kept beeping every five seconds.If some one could help I have no idea why its doing this.

I went to a few different sites that talk about beep codes and that code is 28 Autosize DRAM. What does that mean? Also how can I get into the bios?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI looked at past beeping problems on C-Net and also on Google but I can't find the situation I have. Once exactly at 3 minute intervals my computer gives a short (1 second) beep. Everything works fine so at first I ignored it but I know something is wrong and if possible I would like to fix it before I have a disaster. My Bios is Phoenix and when I checked beep codes there is nothing listed for 1 beep every 3 seconds. My HDD temp is 100 degrees F which is normal for my computer. I would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas which might explain and cure this beep. My profile lists computer info if needed.
View 8 Replies View RelatedFirst time user, and at my whit's end with my computer. Bear with me as my computer knowledge is very limited. I have a Gateway 2.8 GHZ celeron with 1GB of ram. I also have a Radeon Video Card (forgot the exact model). I went to activate my computer from standby mode and it would not come up. I did a hard reboot and when windows came back up it was real slow and the computer monitor did not "turn on" until it entered windows. It seemed to be in safe mode. No icons were available on the desktop and the background I had was reduced in size and surrounded by the basic green background color. The other colors are also screwed up, the seemed very basic. I was able to get McAfees to come up and am currently running a virus scan. The start button with it's options is available but with very limited use. I tried a system restore, but the window would not appear. Whatever I open seems to open the window on the far left side of the screen beyond the reach of the mouse. Bottom line is the computer is, for the most part, inoperable.

Okay so I usually leave my computer on all the time. I went to bed and when I got up it was off and couldn't get it to turn on. So I assumed it might be the power supply so I went and bought a new one from stamples. He turned on for maybe 5 seconds then turned off. so I took it back thinking maybe I didn't have enough watts. The higher watts didn't doanything. I am lost without my computer can anyone help? I have Win XP..Could it be the fan? Even though the fan worked when i plugged in first PS...Second didnt do anything. Could it be something to do with motherboard?

(How much it will hold, kind of memory, etc) what I need to know for sure (I guess for some support) All I have to do is turn her computer off take out the 128Mb put in the two sticks of 256 and reboot the computer should recognize the different and more memory. (right ?) Also does; anyone no what the name of that program is that you can use to see if your new memory is working?? I had it and don't no what happened to it. When booted in "safe mode" it reads several files (in DOS - I think) and stops on reading a path on the "C" drive ending with something like ...../AGP 440 or ..../AGP 44? (or something smilar).

When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.

I have an FTP server running, and everything works once it's turned on ie it's configured to work upon startup, but the problem is, it's in my office, and people keep turning it off. How annoying. I am now getting beeps at start-up and no screen etc. The beep pattern is two long beeps followed by two short beeps and then a pause and two more short beeps. So i did a little researching and figured out that no virus remover will be able to remove it since windows wouldn't allow me to delete or remove it in the first place.Thus the alternate method being the turning off of the system restore function and thereby deleting all system restore points. Although i came across a roadblock in that even though i am the administrator on my computer i am unable to check or uncheck the turn of system restore option in the system restore tab in the properties of My Computer.
