My pc screen turn black after restart/reboot.the only thing i can see is the white cursor arrow.very bad for me.i try to repair with my windows xp cd without sucess.if i reformat i lost my work(pictures,music,etc.

After that I shutdown my laptop and when i try to restart,all lights are glowing in my laptop,but it is not restarting.The screen is still black and no error messages.I have to try again and again power off and power on the laptop,then after 5 or 6 times I try this,then it is restarting.

Backup and replace - Press F1 to Resume. After I press F1 the machine goes black and I can do nothing to take back. The only thing that I can do in order to make windows open is to restart again and after do all the process mention before and press F1 is press many times a message to choose windows XP and then enter and Windows starts. But is not open normal.
I accidently hit the reset button on my computer while cleaning off the screen. the computer will not restart, it tries too, but keeps on coming back to the same screen, which asks me to start windows normally. I click on that, it tries to restart , then it comes right back to that screen. It continues to do this even if I don't click on the start windows normally?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was playing Crossfire (a FPS game) and suddenly the screen froze and pressing alt + tab or alt+ctrl+delete did not change anything. As a last resort I pressed the restate button. It loaded as usual and before the log in screen arrived the whole screen went black and I couldn't do anything. I've tried restarting and waiting for a long time now. I try f8 to enter safe node but it takes me to a blue menu with nothing but 2 booting options. I don't have any CD for my xp and My computer has no cd slot but it does have a floppy disc spot.

Whats happening: Runs fine, reboot computer (powered off or a reboot) and start back up results in a black screen with no windows logo. Reboot computer it gives me the bad windows start up last known good, safe mode etc screen. If I choose start normally goes into windows and everything seems fine.
Tried: Re-Format Latest Drivers, Sp3, Bios reset all no good. Also tried a kernal32.dll delete from recovery console with no results.
I have a Compaq Presario 5320 US, XP Pro, 768 MB Ram 1.5 GHz CPU. It works fine until I shut it down. Then I get a Black Windows screen that says "It is now safe to turn off your computer" I have updated the bios. Anyway to fix this so I don't have to manually press the button to power it off at that point?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got a notice that an itunes update was available. I agreed to download the updated software and a security update. Shortly thereafter, I got a message that nv4_dsp display driver has stopped working properly. Save and reboot. I had to reboot as the all programs had stopped working and the display was corrupted with large letters and weird colors. Thereafter, I rebooted in VGA mode and changed the display to a higher resolution. However, a few minutes later I head a pop and the screen had gone black with colons. I tried rebooting again in VGA mode and did the same adjustment and again I heard a pop and the screen went black, showing a blinking cursor on the top left corner and a grid of colons. I've taken the battery out and tried to reboot, but when the computer comes on it immediately shows the black screen with blinking cursor and field of colons.

At random times my computer will just go to a black screen and not respond, at which point I must push restart button and reboot computer. It can happen within 3 minutes or 3 hours. I have tried virus scans, chekced ram connection. All is fine. I ran the windows memory test and everything passed. Anyone know what can cause this? It is very annoying as I can basically not use my computer. Oh yea one more thing, I tried reformatting and installed windows on the other hard drive. It worked fine for a few weeks but then started again. Also could a corrupt windows installation cause this? I mean could a few system files that are corrupt cause a complete crash like this?

When I try to turn on the computer I get a black screen that appears stating that Windows did not shut down properly and how would I like to restart the computer. There are then five options available to chose from (3 Safe Modes options, last known configuration, and normally). I have attempted all five with no good outcome.
I do get the following message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Set using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair"....
I tried install Windows XP on to this machine for a dual boot, but unfortunately that doesn't appear like it's working... I used nLite to put the RAID drivers onto the installation CD, and here is the problem I am having:The system says "Press any key to boot from CD doThe system then says "Please wait while checking system configuration" or something to that effect.The screen then turns black, my CD drive no longer shows the read LED, and nothing happens indefinitely.I have been able to install Ubuntu on to this computer, and all works well, but whenever I try to use XP, either the original disk or the one with the drivers put on it, it will not boot. I have looked at my BIOS and no settings are off, they all appear normal to me.

I then logged back onto windows update to install remaining updates.they were downloaded and installing when I left. I expected the computer to need to be rebooted and would be fine when updates have finished. Got a text message later this evening from sister saying that all the computer does now is having a black screen? What has gone wrong? How can I solve it? View 6 Replies View RelatedI was reinstalling windows xp home and it stayed in the same position for like an hour, so I had no choice but to either restart or turnoff. I did this and now I can even boot past the logo screen. I have tried inserting XP home disk but it does not have any previous version installed and only has the option to format the drive. GRR I tried safe mode, vga, last known config but all dont work . It seems that Windows/system32/config/system.log is the file (also get blue screen of death after trying recovery console, but hard drive is still in tact. Fortunately I have backed up most of my system. I would still like to get it back though. I havent got any servie packs so I cant turn of 'disable automatic restart..'

To turn off my pc,i usually click on start in the taskbar,then the options to stand-by,turn off or restart appear,I then click on turn off,and the pc does the rest,it turns the pc off and the monitor. Now when i go through the process of turning it off, i do everything as described above,but instead of shutting off,it just acts as if i did nothing,i am left staring at the desktop and can just continue to use it as normal.So i have come to the conclusion that some sort of virus or something (i am doing a virus sweep as i am writting) has turned off the auto shutdown function,What i'd really love to know is can anyone tell me how i can turn this feature back on,i also forgot to add,that u cannot log off either,the same thing happens.
View 6 Replies View RelatedFirst time user, and at my whit's end with my computer. Bear with me as my computer knowledge is very limited. I have a Gateway 2.8 GHZ celeron with 1GB of ram. I also have a Radeon Video Card (forgot the exact model). I went to activate my computer from standby mode and it would not come up. I did a hard reboot and when windows came back up it was real slow and the computer monitor did not "turn on" until it entered windows. It seemed to be in safe mode. No icons were available on the desktop and the background I had was reduced in size and surrounded by the basic green background color. The other colors are also screwed up, the seemed very basic. I was able to get McAfees to come up and am currently running a virus scan. The start button with it's options is available but with very limited use. I tried a system restore, but the window would not appear. Whatever I open seems to open the window on the far left side of the screen beyond the reach of the mouse. Bottom line is the computer is, for the most part, inoperable.

I have a desktop computer that I got about a year ago, it's running XP Pro on Pentium 4 3.2GHz system, has 512 ram and I think a 200Gb HDD. Lately it has been restarting, usually when I try to, eg: listen to music and surf the web, which is nothing strenuous, especially for a computer which I thought was pretty good. All of a sudden though, it has just restarted itself and, and as soon as it gets to the Windows XP loading screen, it restarts again and again. I can never get past the XP loading screen. I have a lot of valuable information on the computer and so I was hoping that someone would be able to help me fix this issue without formatting if possible.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI Installed Windows XP profesional 64 SP1,fresh Install, all was going Ok , the partitions were done ok , I made the boot floopy disc cuz it is a new System and formated the hard drive I installed drivers for the system ,but i noticed I was no getting sound since the staRT I though i was goin to be able to fix it forward as I was going trough the drivers etc. I opened Device Manager and saw I ther was a device with trouble,was the "MicrosoftUAA drivers for High Definition Audio" ok so I update drivers and Instal drivers from Motherboard disc . XP profesional was working OK Installed with no troubles , so when i read the "REBOOT for Changes so drivers came in efect ,OK so turn off the computerthen I decide install the new video card Ati Radeon PCi -E in that instance

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm not too knowledgeable about the technical side of computing, so please bear with me.I'm running Windows XP Professional (SP2) on an AMD Athlon XP 3200+. My grandson showed me a game called Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, which I fell in love with and subsequently bought for my own computer. As I only had 'on board' graphics, the game obviously wouldn't run, so I bought an Nvidia 6200 graphics card.Following the instructions which came with it, I installed the card successfully. The only thing I couldn't do was disable the 'on board' graphics, but as my computer recognised the new card automatically, I went ahead and installed the driver.The new card didn't need an extra power source, as there was no connector on it. Incidentally, I did find the 'on board' graphics in the System > Properties list, but nothing happens when I click on it, so I assume I can't disable it.
Everything appeared to work well and I got the Roller Coaster game up and running beautifully.Some time later, after I had closed the game and gone on to other things, I needed to restart my computer, so I went through the usual restart sequence.Things went well at first but some way through the Windows XP loading screen, where the little blue bars scroll across, my computer simply switched off, totally! I tried again (obviously from a cold boot this time), but the same thing happened.To cut a long story short, I eventually removed the new card, and restored my system to a safe point, and it's now running perfectly again, although I can't play my game now.I'd be really grateful for any advice you can offer as to what the problem might be, as I want to build some more roller coasters!
When I run applications such as new games (swat 4, Dawn of war, AOE3, Silkroad, or play DVDs, my computer stars... "Blinking, that is, it turns black and then turns on again. For example, I click my pc, then monotor becomes black, and then turns on again, with the my pc window open. When I restart, an error message appear. This seems to happen at 2 times.
1) Completely random, with no obvious ties to any activity.
2) When a USB device is disconnected. Windows acknowledges the removal with a bong, but then BSOD crashes seconds later.
Both are extremely intermittent and it may be a week or more in between crashes. I can sit there and insert and remove USB devices (a Creative USB MP3 Player) until I'm blue in the face and never see a crash. This is a home built PC with an ASUS motherboard running XP Home. The system has been reliable for many years but just started this in the last several months. I'm current on all service packs, updates, and whatever else I've been able to find.
I had a BLANK icon on my computer, and used "move on reboot" and I lost everything ,even the ability to restore to earlier time. When I go to tools, it's EMPTY. I don't know what to do.
