This just started randomly, I can't think of anything to cause it to happen. At random times my computer will just go to a black screen and not respond, at which point I must push restart button and reboot computer. It can happen within 3 minutes or 3 hours. I have tried virus scans, chekced ram connection. All is fine. I ran the windows memory test and everything passed. Anyone know what can cause this? It is very annoying as I can basically not use my computer. Oh yea one more thing, I tried reformatting and installed windows on the other hard drive. It worked fine for a few weeks but then started again. Also could a corrupt windows installation cause this? I mean could a few system files that are corrupt cause a complete crash like this?
my computer has been freezing at random times. when it freezes, i push the reset button to reboot it.after that,i get a black screen before windows starts. i forgot what the msg was, but it was something like "boot disk," might have been "insert boot disk"? i'm not too sure i am running windows xp.
I was playing Crossfire (a FPS game) and suddenly the screen froze and pressing alt + tab or alt+ctrl+delete did not change anything. As a last resort I pressed the restate button. It loaded as usual and before the log in screen arrived the whole screen went black and I couldn't do anything. I've tried restarting and waiting for a long time now. I try f8 to enter safe node but it takes me to a blue menu with nothing but 2 booting options. I don't have any CD for my xp and My computer has no cd slot but it does have a floppy disc spot.
Just installed windows XP Home Sp2 onto a PC. Whats happening: Runs fine, reboot computer (powered off or a reboot) and start back up results in a black screen with no windows logo. Reboot computer it gives me the bad windows start up last known good, safe mode etc screen. If I choose start normally goes into windows and everything seems fine. Tried: Re-Format Latest Drivers, Sp3, Bios reset all no good. Also tried a kernal32.dll delete from recovery console with no results.
when i start up my windows computer, it loads then goes to my user selection screen. no less than 3 seconds, and it just reboots. it keeps rebooting. no blue screen. no random black screen. it just reboots! whats wrong with it?
I got a notice that an itunes update was available. I agreed to download the updated software and a security update. Shortly thereafter, I got a message that nv4_dsp display driver has stopped working properly. Save and reboot. I had to reboot as the all programs had stopped working and the display was corrupted with large letters and weird colors. Thereafter, I rebooted in VGA mode and changed the display to a higher resolution. However, a few minutes later I head a pop and the screen had gone black with colons. I tried rebooting again in VGA mode and did the same adjustment and again I heard a pop and the screen went black, showing a blinking cursor on the top left corner and a grid of colons. I've taken the battery out and tried to reboot, but when the computer comes on it immediately shows the black screen with blinking cursor and field of colons.
When I reboot I get a black screen and it asks to to select which operating system etc, when I select windows xp and hit enter it loads ok, how can i get it to boot normally.

I always see this screen every time i turn my pc on or reboot any way to get rid of it

I tried install Windows XP on to this machine for a dual boot, but unfortunately that doesn't appear like it's working... I used nLite to put the RAID drivers onto the installation CD, and here is the problem I am having:The system says "Press any key to boot from CD doThe system then says "Please wait while checking system configuration" or something to that effect. The screen then turns black, my CD drive no longer shows the read LED, and nothing happens indefinitely.I have been able to install Ubuntu on to this computer, and all works well, but whenever I try to use XP, either the original disk or the one with the drivers put on it, it will not boot. I have looked at my BIOS and no settings are off, they all appear normal to me.
My computer screen freezes up after a while, then turns into a blank light blue screen and then into a black screen. I have used regcure, PCMedkit, and PC Doc Pro I have also tried some of the online help for a fee but nothing seem to work. Lately when trying to reboot I got a blank red screen. I'm using xp pro and a Nvida GeForce 9400GT GRAPHICS CARD.
I download, installed and restarted XP after installing SP2 fine. I then logged back onto windows update to install remaining updates.they were downloaded and installing when I left. I expected the computer to need to be rebooted and would be fine when updates have finished. Got a text message later this evening from sister saying that all the computer does now is having a black screen? What has gone wrong? How can I solve it? We are running xp home edition on a machines PC.
Trying to help my daughter with her computer. Every once in a while (sometime twice in a day, sometime not for several days in a row) she hears her computer rebooting. Even when she has nothing open and not even using it - just a desktop open. Created a system restore point before started all this. The computer reboots and gives the following error message: "The System has recovered from a serious error", then she can click Send to Microsoft, or don't send. She clicks don't send and everything words just fine, her applications run fine, email and Internet work fine. This doesn't happen very often, but something is not right. Not much to gone on but that's all that happens. The computer is nice and fast, boots up fast, everything runs nice and fast. Internet and email work fine. This started a few months ago and she can't remember doing anything that would cause it to start. She has not installed any software or hardware in over a year or so. I did a complete backup right away so her files are backed up and safe.
Thought it sounded like a heat issue so I opened the case and she had it very, very clean. Fan and heatsink very clean and fan working fine as well as the other fan in the case. I checked the hard drive cables (SATA 250 gig HD) and they were nice and tight. Reseated the memory modules just in case one crept lose. check CD/DVD drive cable and it was tight. Cleaned out her temporary Internet (cache) files.Next, I clicked on My Computer then highlighted the C: drive and right clicked the C: drive and selected Properties. Then selected Tools and was going to select Defrag button but it was greyed out and said "No defragment tool is installed. I then opened the Control Panel and click the Add/Remove programs icon and once that opened I selected the Open Windows Components and it opened fine, but I couldn't find anywhere in there to install the Windows Defragment program. Am I looking in the right place for this?
Any idea why my PC running on Windows XP occassionally reboots while I am in the middle of something? It does not seem to be associated with any particular programme, and neither AVG nor Spybot pick up any viruses etc, although Spybot does pick up a change in the registery after rebooting (should I allow the change?).
Initially, it just seemed like totally random and spontaneous reboots. But after I reconfigured XP to not autorestart on crashes, now I'm getting BSODs. IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL *** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000188, 0x000000FF, 0x00000000, 0x804E35E9)Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. This seems to happen at 2 times. 1) Completely random, with no obvious ties to any activity. 2) When a USB device is disconnected. Windows acknowledges the removal with a bong, but then BSOD crashes seconds later.
Both are extremely intermittent and it may be a week or more in between crashes. I can sit there and insert and remove USB devices (a Creative USB MP3 Player) until I'm blue in the face and never see a crash. This is a home built PC with an ASUS motherboard running XP Home. The system has been reliable for many years but just started this in the last several months. I'm current on all service packs, updates, and whatever else I've been able to find.
Built my computer about 1 1/2 months ago, have been having various random reboots at times when I seem to be running a lot of stuff. Most notably crashes during memory intensive games. I sent for replacement ram, even though memtest gave me no errors after 7 passes. I had an Audigy 2 that was in one of the PCI slots, but I removed it and uninstalled all the drivers and apps. I also uninstalled my video drivers, deleted, and reinstalled to updated drivers. Some Errors picked from Event Viewer: (occured last night while playing World of Warcraft)

I had a BLANK icon on my computer, and used "move on reboot" and I lost everything ,even the ability to restore to earlier time. When I go to tools, it's EMPTY. I don't know what to do.
its my previously-formatted HP Pavilion dv5201tx! The problem is as the title above. I can go into safe mode. I've used system restore twice. And in Documents and Settings folder I noticed it has:
Administrator Administrator.computer description name Administrator.computer description name.000 username1 username2
Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help!
My laptop has started to freeze at times, then the screen would blackout then appear with a black screen with a blue box inthe middle giving BOOT DEVICE OPTIONS Hard Disk Drive, CD-ROM/DVD, Floppy Disk Drive, LAN Boot it froze blacked out and now keeps going to this option page ,where as before if you turn off then on it rectified itself.
when I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : windowssystem32configsystem."
You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.
i get this error when i tried to open up my computer, first the windows xp loading screen works fine, then after that the screen just goes black and stays like that forever. this happened when i tried to uninstall a USB Bluetooth driver and it was requested to restart my pc so i did, and after that restart i cant get in no more, the screen just goes black after the windows xp load screen. im wondering how can i fix this problem? please help me guys... thank you.. and o yeah one more thing.. when i tried it on safe mode it went to the welcome screen but after that when i try to move my cursor i didnt move at all then i restart my pc again and the whole thing happens once more
friend whose computer has crashed the screen had frozen. He could do nothing except reboot it using the power button but on rebooting, there was a 'no signal' message on a black screen. We have checked the monitor connections (the monitor works when connected to his second computer) and even replaced the video card but of course this made no difference (no signal) We've taken out the HD and installed it on his second system. Does this mean that the most likely cause now is the motherboard/bios or is there something wrong in our approach/deductions
I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal. It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
The start of my problem is that I was receiving an error 'cannot initialize lsass.exe service'.After repairing XP SP2, the following is displayed every time that I boot:SAFE Mode - black screen with 'safe mode' in bottom corners of screen Windows Mode - blue screen. The mouse is responding. There are no icons. There is no text (except for 'safe mode' as above)CTRL/ALT/DEL does not display task manager.CTRL/ESCAPE does not display anything.Clicking on various parts of thescreen has no effect.I have replaced Explorer.exe from c:i386
my computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart.
Next time, generally it would work perfect. So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.
Over the last couple of weeks I've been getting a blue screen crash every day or so. It usually happens while I'm not using it.I have a one year old Dell Precison 390 with 2 gigs of RAM running Windows XP Professional. My most recent change was installing a Maxtor One-touch external hard drive. I uninstalled the Maxtor software, but still get the blue screen.I've also tried using System Restore to go back a couple of weeks, but it told me it couldn't restore since no changes had been made.
it all started when I ran Nod32 antivirus. I ran it because I had some viruses on my computer that I wanted to get rid of. After the scan there were 180 some detected objects that were quarantined or deleted. So then I restart my computer and after the windows xp logo there is just a black screen with no cursor. And after awhile the computer will just restart and try booting up again. I tried going into safe mode and safe mode with command prompt but I still get a black screen with no cursor. The last known good configuration doesn't work either. I'm pretty frustrated because I did nothing wrong. I am also having a feeling that nod32 might have quarantined some infected files that are essential for Windows Xp to boot. I also do not have any windows xp disks with me how to fix this?
whenever i start my dell laptop inspiron 6000 after the dell load a black screen appears with a white loading bar appears which loads for about 10 minutes and then the windows xp proffesional sp2 loads i had recently reinstalled windows from a cd can you please tell me how to get rid of this black loading screen
Was working fine this morning but this afternoon - Upon startup everything runs fine until after the windows splash screen everything goes black and the only thing visable is a cursor, but nothing to click, cannot ctrl=alt=del, cannot right click. Cannot enter safe mode at all, last good configuration doesn't work either. Computer is still running, fan whirring, lights flashing. Fan has been cleaned and power supply checked, no change. Cannot get into anything to run explorer or virus check. She is running Windows XP SP3. I'm unsure of when sp3 was installed. I understand this may be an issue, along with video and graphics drivers, display settings, corrupt registry, flat CMOS battery or loose internal connections.
I start up my laptop with the screen closed. When I open the screen I see the XP login screen for a second and then the computer goes black. I can't do anything else.I have Windows XP Home with the service pack 2 (I regret installing it).I never had any problems before. If you know how to fix this let me know.
when I first start the computer, windows hangs between the black windows logo screen and the first blue screen that says "windows is starting". I have to hit the reset button, it goes to the dos screen with the safe mode, etc. choices. I choose "start using last known good configuration" and I'm good to go. If I turn the computer off during the day and turn it back on, It works fine. It only hangs on the first start of the day.
