my comp was giving me this prob, where it would suddenly reboot and froze randomly, at that time I've not made any hardware modifications. At first i ignored the problem and kept using the comp at my own leisure... however as time passed, the frequency of reboots become more often to a point where after 5 sec from a reboot, it would reboot again and occasionally after a reboot a blue screen will pop up mentioning that windows is experiencing a prob and dumping of physical memory begins... which im not sure what is that about. After many attempts at finding the source of the probn i gave up ...and decided to go ahead with reformatting the comp.

xp professional comes up before windows I'll try to make this short:On 2/15, I got a win32/heur virus. It took me 8 hours to resolve.Today I ran Malwarebytes during this, my Free AVG popped up and said that there are 13 infected file in my restore. I put them in the vault.I corrected my problem yesterday by finally restoring to a way earlier time because AVG told me there was a virus, but could not fix it. It said that I needed the SP3 disk. I didn't have that, I downloaded this from MS, so I didn't have a disk.Anyway,Now when I boot up, on the black screen it shows "xp professional" for a few seconds, then it goes into my windows xp splash screen. How can I by-pass this black screen to go right into the windows splash screen. Also,What is the best malware/trojan program I can use to make sure everything is out. It's been working fine now for 2 days, I hope it's not there. (AVG doesn't appear to be working good for me.

It only started happening recently...but then I've only had my system for around 10 days. I've done some searching around and its seems like there is no one solution for every computer. It could be the PSU, RAM or cooling. With a new system, which seems more likely, or could it possibly be a software/driver issue? Thanks.

This problem happened 3-4 months ago and then went away until yesterday. It is very random and sometimes when it is just on but idle, and others when it is running a program I.E. Ad-aware. When it comes back on it usually goes tru the motions slower, and stops at a screen that say (amongst others) boot from CD twice afterwhich it says DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. After doing that it will run again untilit again randomly repeats. Sometimes in minutes, sometime hours, many times days

This is a very serious situation for me. I have XP/sp2/608ram. 11 days prior to the problem I upgraded from 128 + 512 ram as well as upgraded to a LG 16x Super Multi DVD/CD rewriter. Everything ran fine. Just noting. Thursday I bought and installed a wireless router. When booting down there was a hissing/crackling noise from the subwoofer, and consequently the subwoofer died. Saturday afternoon, while listening to winamp media stream, the system suddenly informed me that windows was logging off. It then at random intervals continuously rebooted. Only by turning off my surge protector was I able to stop it from happening. While trying to troubleshoot the problem I have determined that it usually occurs within 45min-1 1/2 hours after turning on the system ( except for a couple of instances where it stayed on for 5 1/2 hours and a different instance in which it started to boot down after 7 min.) I also while attempting to post this the first time booted down my machine to off mode. Several minutes past and the machine booted up again to begin the cycle of hell. I have Freedom anti-virus, which detects nothing. In closing, I'm desperate for some feedback as I am new to Montreal and don't know any shops that I know and can trust and so I am therefore reduced to take it to futureshop.

About a week or so ago immediately after exiting a browser and world of warcraft (WoW) we couldnt open any program, application, anything and got the error message that the C://WINDOWS folder was corrupted. We eventually got the system back and running after. We still had all our files but all settings were reset (menus, wallpaper, icons etc.) Save for a couple games not working it works ok except for random reboot when I'm playing WoW or other things with some graphic strain. It has run WoW perfect before without any reboots.

I've recently assembled a new server for my wife with the following:
Asus A8S-X Socket 939 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Socket 939 CPU
Biostar GeForce 7300 LE supp. 256MB PCIe
I used the old hard drive which was loaded with windows XP pro and when the system was ready, I configured all the new drivers. I'm afraid I have some corrupt system files but really don't know how to proceed to take care of it.

This just started randomly, I can't think of anything to cause it to happen. At random times my computer will just go to a black screen and not respond, at which point I must push restart button and reboot computer. It can happen within 3 minutes or 3 hours. I have tried virus scans, chekced ram connection. All is fine. I ran the windows memory test and everything passed. Anyone know what can cause this? It is very annoying as I can basically not use my computer. Oh yea one more thing, I tried reformatting and installed windows on the other hard drive. It worked fine for a few weeks but then started again. Also could a corrupt windows installation cause this? I mean could a few system files that are corrupt cause a complete crash like this?

My problem as it stands is: My computer randomly reboots when utilizing graphics intensive programs. For example: games such as EverQuest, Final Fantasy XI, Quake III and programs such as Adobe ImageReady CS. I can't seem to establish any patterns between the crashes aside from they all seem to happen in graphics intensive programs (although ImageReady CS doesn't seem to be too graphically intensive to me). For a while, after a random restart, I would get an error saying my system has recovered from a serious error. Now I don't even get that. I just hang up on the "Welcome" screen in XP and have to ctrl+alt+del. When I first had a problem, I also had a problem that seems to be pretty common on the internet - My HD kep crashing and getting write errors to $Mft. So, I took the HD back (before I read about the problem) and it happened on the new hard drive. So, I called my friend and asked to borrow his XP SP1 CD to see if it might have some better effect on the situation than mine (my other friend suggested that it might have some problems copying certain files). When I reformatted and reinstalled with my friends version of XP SP1, I seemed to have no problems at all. No $Mft. Nothing. I upraded my motherboard drivers (including IDE bus/onboard sound/AGP driver), video drivers, directx. Still no problems. Then about 2 weeks after this, I started crashing randomly. I've scanned my computer multiple times for adaware/virus' and nothing has come up, so it's not that.
I've tried reformatting a few times and the same thing ends up happening in the end.I somewhat think its a complication between my video card and my motherboard versus my version of windows XP, and this is why:The odd thing is, if I plug in my old Hard drive (which I used with my new SAPHIRE RADEON 9700 for a little while before replacing it with a new one), I have no problems whatsoever. My computer is completely stable asside from the fact that the hard drive is slow. I replaced my video card about 3 months ago when my old GeForce went out. I used it with that old hard drive for a while with no problem. Then I got a new hard drive to give my computer a new kick -- and now I have nothing but problems.

I bought new HP pavilion A6040N running Vista Home Premium. It randomly locked up or rebooted and I hated Vista so I installed a new copy of XP Pro. Everything has been running like a champ and all of the sudden it's doing it again. I have swapped ram, checked the CPU temps and had the PS tested and everything seems to be okay but It still happens from time to time and it can happen when you are just surfing the net or it can happen when burning a DVD or something

When connected to the internet, the computer randomly reboots itself. It appears to dislike some sites more than others. I have tried running anti virus and anti spyware but this semms to just alleviate but not cure the problem. If a message is sent to Microsoft it claims that te Webstar has the solution, but this does not appear to work either.or I am not applying it correctly.I have an HP 200GB Pavilion with pentium 4 processor, XP, using blueyonder broadband.

(World of Warcraft and Counter-Strike Source) as well as during startup and during desktop use, that my computer sometimes reboots itself automatically. Like pressing the restart button, or the screen freezes (occurs when playing Counter-Strike Source) and my audio emits a very high pitched stuttering sound and no commands work, and as such the computer must be manually restarted. I would greatly appreciate it if someone would be able to give me some clues as to what is wrong.I am currently using the latest free addtion of Zone Labs 'Zone Alarm' firewall and AVG free anti-virus + Ad-Aware SE Personal Spyware removal. These programs have not found any viruses on the computer, although sometimes during a virus scan with AVG the computer will automatically reboot half-way through the virus scan procedure.

On Start Up Windows XP Reboots.I run Windows XP SP2 Fully up to date. AMD 1900. No viruses Registry fully cleaned. When I start up, after the welcome screen the system shuts down and reboots. Sometimes it will go through to loading up desktop then reboot. It is not consistent as it will either start with no problem or reboot up to 6 times before it completely loads up.I contacted Symantec who inform me that their program
installs a Kernal driver a and this may happen when there is a limited amount of kernal space. This could also be a IRPStackSize registry value problem, and how to change this. This was done and rebooted manually 7 times, no problems! The next day when I started machine-it started its rebooting again. All these numbers are gobbly-**** to me. If anyone can work out what the problem is and offer A solution in plain simple info,

I would get occasional freezes and random reboots, moreso than with my previously computer. It would usually take me three reboots to get the computer going well, but then it would be fine. I had done two clean installs of xp so I know the OS is fine. As mentioned, i had occasional xp shutdowns due to "device driver problems," but i could always get it going again. All drivers were up to date. Now i have it so that i can not even get into windows. After it gerts through bios, the windows loading logo comes up, then blue screen, and reboot. Everytime. Tried switching hard drive with another that has xp pro and same thing. Blue screen says usual suggest disabling anti-virus but can't even get into windows now.

I'm new here, just signed up to ask this question, but I need a good tech forum.
If you guys can give me aclue of what to do next, other than a reinstall, I'd be very grateful.Okay, heres the thing.About a month ago, I was doing some updates, both from HP, and from Windows UpdateI made the mistake of just starting it up and leaving on an errand.Well, there was an error in installlation somehow, a brownout, something.Afterwards, It wouldn't even boot past the login screen except in safe mode.In safe mode, I checked the event monitor for what was failing in system errors, and determined it was the new update for the AMD processor driver, as well as some other programs that wanted to load.I rolled back the driver, uninstalled the program, an antivirus suite, and rebooted.

I have been having a problem with my system. Suddenly, the entire system shuts off and reboots. I have the automatic restarts disabled, and if all things are equal,I should at least be getting a "blue screen of death". So, I think it is NOT a Stop error. Then when I check my Event log, I see it is always caused by Security Center. This Windows XP SP2 feature, for some reason, seems to be shutting me down at its leisure. Is there a setting to prevent this

friend whose computer has crashed the screen had frozen. He could do nothing except reboot it using the power button but on rebooting, there was a 'no signal' message on a black screen. We have checked the monitor connections (the monitor works when connected to his second computer) and even replaced the video card but of course this made no difference (no signal) We've taken out the HD and installed it on his second system. Does this mean that the most likely cause now is the motherboard/bios or is there something wrong in our approach/deductions

I just came back from vacation and turned on my other computer only to find that right after it flashed the "Dell" screen, it showed a blank screen with random letters/numbers flashing in green. It just freezes there.
It's possible that someone else was on it and may have messed it up but I'm not sure. I'm hoping its still salvageable.

Encountered a Blue Screen of Death error. The error stated that I should run Chkdsk and then proceeds to restart and bring me to the Windows boot selection screen (safe mode, last known good configuration, normally). No matter which choice I pick, it always leads to the BSOD then restarts. Since this is getting me nowhere fast, I want to just format and reinstall windows. I do not have my recovery CDs, and when I enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence I cannot change it so the CD drive is above the hard drive in priority. The reason it gives me in the bios is that "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor. Any ideas on how I can boot off the cd and reinstall windows from scratch?

I tried install Windows XP on to this machine for a dual boot, but unfortunately that doesn't appear like it's working... I used nLite to put the RAID drivers onto the installation CD, and here is the problem I am having:The system says "Press any key to boot from CD doThe system then says "Please wait while checking system configuration" or something to that effect. The screen then turns black, my CD drive no longer shows the read LED, and nothing happens indefinitely.I have been able to install Ubuntu on to this computer, and all works well, but whenever I try to use XP, either the original disk or the one with the drivers put on it, it will not boot. I have looked at my BIOS and no settings are off, they all appear normal to me.
