I just came back from vacation and turned on my other computer only to find that right after it flashed the "Dell" screen, it showed a blank screen with random letters/numbers flashing in green. It just freezes there.
It's possible that someone else was on it and may have messed it up but I'm not sure. I'm hoping its still salvageable.
when he turns it on, it shows the HP logo with the F1 for Setup and such, then it goes straight to a blank screen with a cursor flashing. it's a boot sector problem. I just need to get him booted up so I can do some scans.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to give a solution for an issue that I had on a Dell Optiplex GX270, where it was having problems hanging when a couple of peripheral USB items were plugged in. After I had installed an HP printer, I plugged in an 8Gb thumb drive. It would hang for a very long time until I finally had to reboot. When it went through the short Dell setup screen, it just went black with a flashing underline in the top left corner instead of going to the first Windows startup screen. The funny thing is that I would unplug the HP printer's USB cable while the computer was still powered, and it would immediately start Windows. Through several different test cycles I found that A) Leaving the printer USB cable plugged in during a restart brought up the blank screen w/flashing underscore. B) Not connecting the printer USB cable during a restart brought Windows up properly. That told me that there was a problem with BIOS. I went to the Dell website and flashed my BIOS with the latest update for my computer. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have XP1 installed but having trouble getting XP2 on.I have a HP Pavilion 8905.XP Pro is installed as a clean install(not using the partitioned files) No other HP services are installed/loaded.I installed XP2 from the MS setup disk I got sent out but the trouble is when it does the restart, I get an error msg. (STOP failure the numbers & letters). I then have to do a recory disk roll-back.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI awoke by the sound of my computer posting. I was confused, but concluded it was just a Windows Updated rebooting my computer. It happened again the same night, waking me up. I woke up, started looking around my Event Logs (which show no Warnings or Errors by the way), and it froze. I have tried reformatting, updating video card drivers, updating BIOS, running MEMTEST86, clearing CMOS, and none of these have cured it or helped me diagnose the problem.I was watching a movie the other day on my computer, and it froze. Weird thing was, I continued to hear the video for about 20 seconds, but the screen was frozen, and couldn't move my mouse or use my keyboard (couldn't SEE me using it anyways).My mouse has been acting up, so I thought maybe in some weird way, that's affecting the freezing. I unplugged it, using only my keyboard, but of course, it still froze. I can still hear the HDD activity, and the LEDs flashing, but nothing changes on the monitor. View 13 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install Windows XP as a second OS as I already have Windows 7 Ultimate installed. Unfortunately, after I select a partition, format it, and reboot the system stalls on the screen after the BIOS that has something to do with a list of devices and such. After 10 or so seconds a few characters and letters go blank randomly on the page. I rebooted and selected my cd drive as the boot device and accidentally didn't press a button in time to boot and a bunch of highlighted numbers were thrown all over the screen and a random smiley face on one of the lines.
View 12 Replies View RelatedYesterday I was on my computer,I downloaded a codec,and afterwards I got a flashing yellow triangle and blue/red flashing circle on my bottom taskbar.I have ad subtract which is suppose to stop popups.Now I keep getting a popup from the triangle that says(System Alert:Trojan-Spy.Win32@mx and by the circle I get(System Alert popup)And Ads-Virusburst.com,The Spyguard.com,Malware Wipe.com and a ISA Monitor.exe,What the heck is going on?I went to my control panel and uninstalled everything that was downloaded in the last couple of days.I click the x on popups to close,and 30 seconds they come right back.Tried a system restore,and will not work.Any suggestions?Never had any problems in the past.

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy comp was giving me this prob, where it would suddenly reboot and froze randomly, at that time I've not made any hardware modifications. At first i ignored the problem and kept using the comp at my own leisure... however as time passed, the frequency of reboots become more often to a point where after 5 sec from a reboot, it would reboot again and occasionally after a reboot a blue screen will pop up mentioning that windows is experiencing a prob and dumping of physical memory begins... which im not sure what is that about. After many attempts at finding the source of the probn i gave up ...and decided to go ahead with reformatting the comp.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden my laptop computer has gone absolutly barmey! In normal mode it won't load up Windows at all the screen just goes blank. I can manage to get Windows XP booted up using Safe Mode but the screen goes absolutly mad like a sort of snow storm: Screenshot. At first I thought that this was a faulty monitor but it can't be because the poor picture quality shows up in the screenshot. The picture is also blocky when the computer is loading up on the boot screens. I've got avast! Pro and Zone Alarm Pro running, both of which are up to date.

Sometimes the loading screen does come on but always freezes at XP loading screen and goes blank. Most of the time the screen stays blank when start button is pushed. Since I am an idiot I was on windows xp and I decided to delete the suse partition trough windows. After I deleted the suse partition, I restarted windows and like ususal it said Grub loading, but I got an error because obviously suse is no longer there, so I put in the win xp disc and tried to repair windows. I thought if I deleted the 956 mb swap partition it would correct the system from trying to load Grub, but it actually made things worse and now I cannot even load the windows xp disc. Now when I try to load the xp disc it says inspecting system configuration then the screen goes blank.

It removed all traces of McAfee and this and also seems to have taken system restore point with it!When I open system restore I just a blank screen.

View 11 Replies View RelatedMachines were running fine until someone took out a power pole down the road.When power resumed, powered my machines back up. 2 out of 3 did OK. The third goes immediately to a black screen with a flashing cursor in the upper corner.Have already:
1 removed and reseated the power and data cables from the hard drive
2 removed and reseated the RAM modules
3 tried pressing every F key on the keyboard
4 Cntl-Alt-Delete doesn't work either
5 tried on another monitor.
Don't even get to Windows splash screen or able to get to Safe Mode.
please people, bear with me. im sure you have seen a ton of these, but this one isn't like any one i have heard of. i cant figure it out and its driving me up a wall.An interesting thing is that when i run Team Fortress 2 in the background, it doesnt seem to freeze at all. i have 2 GB of RAM, TF2 takes up approx 450mb of RAM. i dont know why my computer would run so well with that much ram being taken up. I tried doing a harddisk error read through windows, but it froze 40% through the scan of the free space (part 5 of 5).i couldn't seem to get a RAM scan to run properly. i tried using the WINDIAG device put out by windows, but none of the commands worked. any other possible ways to scan my memory for errors? I am in a dorm at Ohio State, and i had these same problems last year living in a dorm. they eventually went away, and now that i am back here i am having issues again. except now, i have to restart my comp at least 20 times a day just to get things done. running itunes seems to make it freeze within 5 minutes.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy computer has become more and more prone to failure lately. I turned it on last night and left for a while only to come back to a blue screen. Sometimes shortly after booting up, it will freeze momentarily, the red HDD light stays lit, and then will come back after about a minute or 2. Not to mention every time I boot up, I get to my desktop no problem, but then I have to sit and wait for several minutes while something loads. I dont know what it is. If i put my cursor in the task bar, it becomes the hour glass and I cannot click anything. After a few minutes, my icons start showing up in the lower right corner and I can go about my business.
I have checked to see if anything is running and taking up a lot of resources on start up. I have made sure nothing unnecessary starts up. I have AVG and checked to see if that was causing problems and after an uninstall showed that it was not the problem, I system restored back. I have run virus scans, adware, spyware, disk defrags, registry derags, registry checks, mem test, pretty much everything under the sun. I have even posted on here several times. So I guess this is a challenge to see who can solve this problem, preferably without reinstalling because honestly, if I am going to reinstall, I am just going windows 7.
when I went to log onto my pc, after turning on the screen, it remained blank in a stand-by sort of screen. I had left it on the previous evening while running basic Windows Disk-cleaner. So, I couldn't get the PC to respond, and rebooted it. Upon rebooting, I recieved an error message saying that the file "system32c_1252" was missing or corrupt. I tried booting off of the original system setup cd, and repairing the installation, but it didn't work and I recieved another error message stating that "system322052" was missing or corrupt. After that, I managed to get access Dos console and ran "CHKDSK" and "FIXBOOT." Fixboot completed successfully, while chkdsk first hung at 50% and then, when I tried again, completed with unfixable errors. I exited and got back to the original bootup screen, where upon I got the same message as before, only this time it informed me that my windowssystem32configsystem file was missing or corrupt. Now it seems as if there are new small changes each time I try to start up. I'm at a total loss regarding this. I have virus protection, firewall, and I hadn't been downloading or surfing any unfamiliar sites.

All I get is a large, blank, white screen. Not sure what I have done. And, on another note, I have lost the bar at the bottom of the computer that shows you, with green bars in a small rectangle, when a site is loading. It would usually take me three reboots to get the computer going well, but then it would be fine. I had done two clean installs of xp so I know the OS is fine. As mentioned, i had occasional xp shutdowns due to "device driver problems," but i could always get it going again. All drivers were up to date. Now i have it so that i can not even get into windows. After it gerts through bios, the windows loading logo comes up, then blue screen, and reboot. Everytime. Tried switching hard drive with another that has xp pro and same thing. Blue screen says usual suggest disabling anti-virus but can't even get into windows now.

I installed a software last night on my computer to allow me to transfer images and stuff to my cell phone (motorolla product). When I was installing it a box or something appeared saying it was suddenly missing files and it wanted me to put in the Service pack 2 disk - which I didn't have. My only guess is that is what caused this problem. I have not saved anything yet (was going to do that tomarrow on my only day off)

After some use the computer freezes and goes blank, this is normally an hour or so after I have been using it. I then have to manually restart the computer and it freezes just after the BIOS information comes up but just before the XP loading screens comes up. In BIOS I change some of the settings and it works again but then the same thing happens again. Now I cant even load from the hard drive because some of the windows files are corrupted.
