I have XP1 installed but having trouble getting XP2 on.I have a HP Pavilion 8905.XP Pro is installed as a clean install(not using the partitioned files) No other HP services are installed/loaded.I installed XP2 from the MS setup disk I got sent out but the trouble is when it does the restart, I get an error msg. (STOP failure the numbers & letters). I then have to do a recory disk roll-back.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just came back from vacation and turned on my other computer only to find that right after it flashed the "Dell" screen, it showed a blank screen with random letters/numbers flashing in green. It just freezes there.
It's possible that someone else was on it and may have messed it up but I'm not sure. I'm hoping its still salvageable.
What is one to do with error messages that come up on your computer. they all seem to have diff numbers but I have no clue what to do with them can anyone help I have been using this computer for about one year and still have alot to learn so bear with me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter suffering months of freezing PC and blue screens (primarily the dreaded kernel stack error. I have done tried all the recovery tricks from here and MS website, done chkdsk /f & /r repeatedly over four days without using the PC in between, and all the other stuff from here and Microsoft. Bought an expensive Reg cleaner and run it repeatedly. No luck. No recently installed soft or hardware. New Dell desktop. 1 year of trouble-free life until this. I now boot from the recovery XP CD (it includes SP2) to try to reformat the whole shebang and it gets as far as loading setup files OK, then as usual tries to start load windows installation and ... blue screen. STOP error 0x0000007B (OXF78D2524 OXC0000034, OX00000000, OX00000000).
Decided to buy a new HDD and install XP on that. (3 weeks from Dell!) and in machine. Old one disconnected. Tried installing XP from disk. It stalls at exactly the same moment as before (loads up preliminary files, gets to ""starting Windows" and then the dreaded blue screen with the same error message as before. 0X0000007B (OXF78D2524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). So presumably not HD (although always good to have one). Have downloaded Memtest and run it for 24 hours. No RAM errors reported.
When I started up my IBM, I got a message about "missing file" - then all went black!
I put in the installation disc, hoping to be able to push the "repair" button, but all I got was the following message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt <Windows root>/system32/hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of this file." OK, but how? Where would I get such a copy, is it on the Inst Disc, and PARTICULARLY - how can I install this file (when I can't get the system to open or can't even reinstall the OS from the Installation disc) IMPORTANT!! If you can help me, please remember that I am a relative newbie (ok, I've learnt a bit over the last few years, but even so) and I UNDERSTAND NOTHING ABOUT "BIOS" and things like that, so - if possible a sort of a "one step after the other"
For some reason, my boot drive is showing up as D while my secondary drive is showing up as C. This is messing up my program files and various other stuff. I can't change any profile settings and can't install anything. How do you change the letters in XP?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a computer that has a driver labeled removable drive but it's not connected to anything. It's like it remained after a thumb drive was plugged in and than removed. It's very strange. I can't figure out how to get rid of it. When you double click on it you get prompted to insert a disk, kind of like what happens when you double click the A: drive and it's empty.

The main one at the moment is that though it has downloaded and successfully installed 33 MS Critical Updates it is not able to install Service Pack 2. It gets about half way through installing SP2 and then brings up an "Access Denied" Error.

Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information" I couldnt find anything about why this is happening but i found a way how to solve it. to solve it it said: "Well problem finally solved. All you have to do is add a group called "Users" in the groups and users settings of the administrative settings and it will install..." I am using "Windows XP Home Edition" and "Service Pack 1" and i have not found anywere that allows me to do this.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my Installshield engine, and so I am unable to install/uninstall programs. I am running Windows XP home on a pentium IV, 2.4 GHZ with 512 ram. I think the problem started when I was installing a program called eBay Blackthorne from a download. Now, any install/uninstall is affected.
The error is "Internal error # 2738".
I rebooted computer and got an error about a missing or corrupt file so windows would not even start to load.I got the bright idea that I could do a repair install of Windows.After the repair install copied the files necessary, it restarted the computer and I got the same "file missing or corrupt" error. So I found the file that was corrupt online and copied it to the HDD.Now my problem is that the Windows repair install is giving me an error after it loads the install and comes up with the install screen.

I ran setup.exe to install Visual Studio 6.0 using DVD. It crashed. I thought DVD is bad or corrupted and used some other CD. Still Visual Studio6.0 installation wizard is crashing. What do I have to do to get rid of windows error code 0X80200010 ? My automatic updates worked fine. Windows update tries to give me 10 updates now, and thy download okay but do not install successfully. I'm using AVAST! antivirus which seems to work very well. I'm also using Mozilla Threatfire and PCTOOLS firewall. In a few more days, I will be 3 months behind on my security updates.

So im like. meh forget it ill just reformat. It starts the setup and what not and says. if you want to install windows xp press enter. or repair press r ok i press enter. Then it says that it cant find my hardrive. but all my files are there. i replaced the IDE cable and made sure my drive was set to master and was plugged in right. Nothing.i checked bios. so i get a new hard drive. my commputer gets a ndlr error on boot up.

The CD boots fine, but once I have done the initial setup I get a Disk Boot Error every time I restart, unless I manually intervene and again boot from the CD (in which case I can finish the installation and everything works fine, except that I can only boot from the CD).I have done some searching, but although lots of people have had similar problems, I'm not finding a solution that works for me.

I have a problem I have a new system installed Windows XP professional. Everything was ok till yesterday. I just have a few more things to install and I have the computer plugged into the 4 plug UPS so if the power goes down the computer has 5 minutes to shut down. Well the hydro went off yesterday for a few seconds and all of the other computers came back up but the new one. It was booting into Windows got to the Windows logo and the bar going across loading then after 10 minutes still sat there. I decided to re-boot to see what was wrong as I am a computer tech. Nothing so I went into safe mode that was fine got out of there same thing logo looks like it was starting nothing. I did put in the Windows XP disk thinking to just do a repair still the same thing. I get the Windows screen like it is loading nothing. Go back to safe mode and here is what it says and there is no disk at all in the drive. Can not run setup from Safe Mode rebooting computer.

The logs say Ox643 is the error code. Looking this up on the MS site was no help. Any ideas about how to get past this? I really don't need Net Framework ( I think), so would un-installing it be an option to remove the nuisance reminders about updating it?

I also have an identical WD 80gig slave on my system (which I do not want to reformat). Seems simple...however, My slave is the current c: drive. For some reason when i reformatted last time it automatically named my root drive g:...no idea. And to get my computer to recognize my ipod i needed a c: drive so i ended up changing my slave to that via a program in xp. Does anyone know if this will be a real problem when i go to format and partition the new drive? Will it show both HDs without assigned letters? Should I install, format, and setup xp on the new HD without a slave attached and then add the slave later?
