I have a problem with my Installshield engine, and so I am unable to install/uninstall programs. I am running Windows XP home on a pentium IV, 2.4 GHZ with 512 ram. I think the problem started when I was installing a program called eBay Blackthorne from a download. Now, any install/uninstall is affected.
The error is "Internal error # 2738".
I get this every time I try to install something. Tried all of the solutions, but none of them work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Win XP SP2 laptop and any software that uses installshield will not install. I get different errors depending on the particular program I'm trying to install. One example is "1607: Unable to install installshield scripting runtime". Everything else on the computer seems to be running fine. I've searched the web extensively for answers to this problem and I'm down to either reinstalling the Installshield program or reinstalling Win XP. Does anyone have info on how to solve this problem? Or does anyone know where to find the installshield program so I can reinstall it? Reinstalling Windows obviously has it's drawbacks.

Everytime we click on the icon change/remove it acts as if it's going to remove it but then it doesn't. This game has used 2,000 kb space on our computer and we are trying to free this space. Somehow the game has the icon for Wildtangent Games in the front of it and it is not part of that system. We have already removed the Wildtangent program and other Medal of Honor games successfully however, this one Medal of Honor game seems unable to be removed regardless of all our efforts. View 4 Replies View RelatedHad problem for last week, installing and uninstalling any software.... ended up resorting to fresh win 2000 installation on fresh, newly formatted hard drive and still have same problems..I have only service pack 1 on my win 2000, and on trying to download SP4, it downloads, then stops on 'extracting files' says extraction failed, the system cannot find the file specified, and i have the same problem with any program or updates i try to download, which doesnt help me solve my problem.
Basically, i cannot install/uninstall anything, plus, i use Norton internet security, and for some reason, the liveupdate isn't working.... i get message saying failed to launch liveupdate, its not the only thing that has suddenly stopped working... Like i said, this is all a fresh installation on new hard drive, only 2 days ago, and these were same problems i had before this new installation? i cant understand how they're still there!!

I am having a driver problem, which i find to be very weird. I cannot install, or uninstall a driver, nor can i disable on from device manager. When i try to do any of these I get either a "run DLL as an App has enountered a problem and needs to close" or if trying to do something from device manager, I get Microsoft Management Console has enountered a problem and needs to close. In the first case I believe the file was sysag.api in the second the file causing an error is mmc.exe.

Access to database has been denied. when trying to access security settings from Admin Tools. although my userid is on the Administrators group with full privileges. my %systemroot% is set to share, everyone with full access. I can send a HJT log if requested. what can I do? there are also many internet pages that are no longer loading (says cookies disabled) even tho they are on the trusted list, and even with BitDefender and ZoneAlarm shut down. I have been able to install a program in safe mode but the program then does not work correctly. I also tried to uninstall a program and that process hangs up also.

I've tried everything possible that google has to offer. I tried deleting the Engine file, but it won't delete. It would come right back. I tried looking for corrupt files in C:, nothing. I went to the Installshield consumers website. Nothing on there helped. I've tried all but downloading the latest version of ikernel, but the problem is I have to use the kernel program to install the latest kernel which isn't working. I hope that made sense. I saw I could use Windows Installer, but yeah I have no clue how to use that. I downloaded it, and I'm lost after that. It would be awesome if someone could give me walk through on using it or just tell me how to solve my original problem.

However everytime I do try it will begin installing and then installshield wizard will minimise itself and stay that way.I have tried everything i can think of like installing in safe mode, turning off anti virus and all that jazz. Just as the s/w begins to install I get a fatal error - (something like) "Unable to create a file that already exists ... C:Progam FilesCommon FilesInstallshieldengine6Intel 32iuser.dll" Since I was able to install the s/w on a friend's similar PC I think the problem is a compatability or bug with XP and/or the Installshield appln on my machine.
I followed some suggestions (from the Installshield support site) and cleaned up my temp file, deleted the 'Engine 6' folder and reinstalled the Installshield 'ikernal.exe' but this hasn't helped. Surprisingly when I tried to reinstall the 'ikernal' it also runs into exactly the same error! - so there is some issue with how the Installshield (Engine 6) is working on my PC.

I have done tried all the recovery tricks from here and MS website, done chkdsk /f & /r repeatedly over four days without using the PC in between, and all the other stuff from here and Microsoft. Bought an expensive Reg cleaner and run it repeatedly. No luck. No recently installed soft or hardware. New Dell desktop. 1 year of trouble-free life until this. I now boot from the recovery XP CD (it includes SP2) to try to reformat the whole shebang and it gets as far as loading setup files OK, then as usual tries to start load windows installation and ... blue screen. STOP error 0x0000007B (OXF78D2524 OXC0000034, OX00000000, OX00000000).
Decided to buy a new HDD and install XP on that. (3 weeks from Dell!) and in machine. Old one disconnected. Tried installing XP from disk. It stalls at exactly the same moment as before (loads up preliminary files, gets to ""starting Windows" and then the dreaded blue screen with the same error message as before. 0X0000007B (OXF78D2524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). So presumably not HD (although always good to have one). Have downloaded Memtest and run it for 24 hours. No RAM errors reported.
we had to remove Visual Studio 2005...when uninstalling VS it tells you to unistall portions in order...we did that and now nothing is listed in Add/Remove Programs relating to VS at all...however, in the start menu there is MS SQL Server 2005 configuration tools...when you reboot windows xp you get an error saying SQL Server could not start...well, we don't want SQL Server 2005 on there and are trying to remove it but it is not listed in Add/Remove at all...can't find anything relating to this at all.how do we remove SQL Server 2005 configuration tools?
