I/O Device Error Of A Different Kind / Unable To Install Programs?
Sep 18, 2007
okay. just got the morrowind expansion packs. (bethesda softworks). installed tribunal without a fuss. tried to install bloodmoon...then it whips out this "I/O Device error crap" on me.
I have a problem with my Installshield engine, and so I am unable to install/uninstall programs. I am running Windows XP home on a pentium IV, 2.4 GHZ with 512 ram. I think the problem started when I was installing a program called eBay Blackthorne from a download. Now, any install/uninstall is affected. The error is "Internal error # 2738".
I downloaded regcleaner2 to clean my registry and somewhere down the line I screwed up. Now I cannot use any of the short cut icons and I need to access my Outlook Express.
I just did clean install of XP on my new Dell D630 notebook and have a problem.I've done plenty of clean installs before and never run into these problems.I checked the Device Manager after installing my drivers/windows updates. For some reason,I'm showing 2 ACPI Batteries,2 965 Chipsets,3 plug and play monitors, 2 Core Duo processors, and several system boards... all I can think of is that there may be newer drivers I need to download (I used the drivers/ utilities disk). I actually had 2 copies of Windows XP showing up when I booted, but one was not actually present, so I deleted it from the boot.ini file, which did nothing.
I have a Sony RS-220 desktop w/ XP home w/ SP2 & all updates since that's unable to auto install generic device drivers. I discovered this when I tried plugging in a couple different USB flash drives & it would just stop at the found new hardware wizard. Running the wizard w/ "install the software automatically" & also enabling "also search windows updates" returns unable to find device driver. The USB flash drive was the only bang in device manager. I uninstalled the usb controllers, rebooted and amazingly the controllers wouldn't auto reinstall. Suspecting the behavior extended to more then just USBs/the chipset I uninstalled some unneeded devices (56k modem & 1394) & they also wouldn't auto reinstall.
I went to the sony website & strangely Sony doesn't list the chipset available for download w/ the other drivers I downloaded the chipset direct from intel & installed it but that didn't work either. I've tried many other things to no avail. Malware scans (spybot, AVG AV, rootkitrevealer)...all came up clean. I've tried a new admin user profile, cCleaner registry cleanup, resetting registry permissions w/ subinACL, setting related windows services to automatic, checkdisk /r. Another thing I thought about doing was uninstalling the PCI controller, but I think I recall that can get ugly. Ultimately the only thing that allowed me to get my usb controllers, usb hubs, modem, 1394, & usb drive working was to "install from a list or specific location" & "include this location in the search" C:WINDOWSinf. Does anybody have any idea how I can restore the functionality of generic drivers auto installing & not having to point to an INF directory? Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Unable to install ANY programs or updates on my pc.There have been changes made to the permissions, network sharing and connections. I am getting Windows cannot open the local policy database. Access to database has been denied. when trying to access security settings from Admin Tools. although my userid is on the Administrators group with full privileges. my %systemroot% is set to share, everyone with full access. I can send a HJT log if requested. what can I do? there are also many internet pages that are no longer loading (says cookies disabled) even tho they are on the trusted list, and even with BitDefender and ZoneAlarm shut down. I have knocked up against this for 3 days, but do not seem to be making progress.
I'm getting a Message when trying to install new programs Trying msn Messenger 7.5 as example.I'm in an account with administrator rights (this is indicated on the control panel / user accounts)Message:"You do not have the permissions required to install.."I was getting a 1601 message - windows installer not available.(I went into services and the "windows INstaller" was set to manual, I set it to automatic.)
I am running a Dell 4600 with Windows xp Home addition. When i tried to install a new program, i get an error that my Windows Installer is not working properly.I don't know what could of caused this, but when i tried to do some of the Windows updates, they would not intall either.
I have the same problem with some programs that I want to install in my PC. I receive this problem error message:C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose Close to terminate the operation. There are several softwares that I would like to install on my PC but I cant because of this error One is a game, the other one is a program I need it to make programs and the last one is a typing software. Is there a way that I can install them on my PC? or do I need to kiss them goodbye?
After suffering months of freezing PC and blue screens (primarily the dreaded kernel stack error. I have done tried all the recovery tricks from here and MS website, done chkdsk /f & /r repeatedly over four days without using the PC in between, and all the other stuff from here and Microsoft. Bought an expensive Reg cleaner and run it repeatedly. No luck. No recently installed soft or hardware. New Dell desktop. 1 year of trouble-free life until this. I now boot from the recovery XP CD (it includes SP2) to try to reformat the whole shebang and it gets as far as loading setup files OK, then as usual tries to start load windows installation and ... blue screen. STOP error 0x0000007B (OXF78D2524 OXC0000034, OX00000000, OX00000000). Decided to buy a new HDD and install XP on that. (3 weeks from Dell!) and in machine. Old one disconnected. Tried installing XP from disk. It stalls at exactly the same moment as before (loads up preliminary files, gets to ""starting Windows" and then the dreaded blue screen with the same error message as before. 0X0000007B (OXF78D2524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). So presumably not HD (although always good to have one). Have downloaded Memtest and run it for 24 hours. No RAM errors reported.
When I started up my IBM, I got a message about "missing file" - then all went black! I put in the installation disc, hoping to be able to push the "repair" button, but all I got was the following message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt <Windows root>/system32/hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of this file." OK, but how? Where would I get such a copy, is it on the Inst Disc, and PARTICULARLY - how can I install this file (when I can't get the system to open or can't even reinstall the OS from the Installation disc) IMPORTANT!! If you can help me, please remember that I am a relative newbie (ok, I've learnt a bit over the last few years, but even so) and I UNDERSTAND NOTHING ABOUT "BIOS" and things like that, so - if possible a sort of a "one step after the other"
I have managed to repair the OS (XP Home) but am still experiencing one or two problems. The main one at the moment is that though it has downloaded and successfully installed 33 MS Critical Updates it is not able to install Service Pack 2. It gets about half way through installing SP2 and then brings up an "Access Denied" Error.
Well when i go to install this i get this error http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/1951/untitledan4.jpg Any idea how to fix it? This is really important as i cant install java and i really need it for school
After formatting my computer im now in the stage of installing all the bits and bobs back on again. nothing will install and leaves me with the error message: "Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information" I couldnt find anything about why this is happening but i found a way how to solve it. to solve it it said: "Well problem finally solved. All you have to do is add a group called "Users" in the groups and users settings of the administrative settings and it will install..." I am using "Windows XP Home Edition" and "Service Pack 1" and i have not found anywere that allows me to do this.
I have XP1 installed but having trouble getting XP2 on.I have a HP Pavilion 8905.XP Pro is installed as a clean install(not using the partitioned files) No other HP services are installed/loaded.I installed XP2 from the MS setup disk I got sent out but the trouble is when it does the restart, I get an error msg. (STOP failure the numbers & letters). I then have to do a recory disk roll-back.
I rebooted computer and got an error about a missing or corrupt file so windows would not even start to load.I got the bright idea that I could do a repair install of Windows. After the repair install copied the files necessary, it restarted the computer and I got the same "file missing or corrupt" error. So I found the file that was corrupt online and copied it to the HDD.Now my problem is that the Windows repair install is giving me an error after it loads the install and comes up with the install screen.
I have a HP laptop that once ran on Vista. This summer before I left for college,I decided that it was finally time to downgrade to XP,seeing as I had backed up everything, and classes would be starting in a week.So I did the usual thing. Insert CD, restart computer,"A problem has been detected, and Windows has shut down...."Blue Screen of Death. The Stop Message: 0x0000007B (0xF78D254, 0x00000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)
When I try to install Java, I get the following error message:Error 1304.Error writing to file C:Program FilesCommon FilesJavaUpdateBase Imagesjre1.6.0.b105 patch-jre1.6.0_05.b13launcher.exe. Verify that you have access to that directory Well I go to that directory and double-click it, and I get the following messsage:Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to acces the item.
I got a new system Pentium 4 3GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 800MHz FSB with windows XP Professional, Office 2003 that replaces Pentium 3 300MHz 128MB RAM. I was sohappy because I do not need to use Virtual memory any more and windows xpboots up in a minute. I started installing all the development applicationsin the news system
I ran setup.exe to install Visual Studio 6.0 using DVD. It crashed. I thought DVD is bad or corrupted and used some other CD. Still Visual Studio6.0 installation wizard is crashing. When it crashed, a dialog box comes upand asks whether I can send report to Microsoft or debug. I sent report to Microsoft. Nothing happend more than that. I tried to debug using visualstudio .net. It gives the following error message.
What do I have to do to get rid of windows error code 0X80200010 ? My automatic updates worked fine. Windows update tries to give me 10 updates now, and thy download okay but do not install successfully. I'm using AVAST! antivirus which seems to work very well. I'm also using Mozilla Threatfire and PCTOOLS firewall. In a few more days, I will be 3 months behind on my security updates.
I'm sure I am overlooking something obvious, but numerous recent problems with my system seem to be (hopefully) tied to the same source.I just don't know what it is.I am running windows XP home, service pack one (I have recently reverted back from SP2 thinking it may be the cause of the problems) 1) Any and all telnet type programs refusing to connect to any host (telnet, zmud, gmud, etc) In the case of zmud I can observe that my computer is in no way interfacing with another machine. telnet error is 'unable to contact host machine' 2) Windows media player (version 10) is unable to retrieve album info. Instead I immediately get a standard IE 'page cannot be displayed' screen. 3) Unable to register for many programs such as Gracenote. In the case of gracenote I recieve a 'socket open failed' error message.I am not currently running any firewall. I only hae a 56k internet connection, so the instantaneous negative connection responses many of my programs display make it fairly obvious that this is a problem with my machine. I hope it is some silly xp setting I need to change.
While trying to boot up, my PC keeps on going in a circle..between WINDOWS XP, DELL, DEATH BLUE SCREEN and goes around with the same screens. I can't reboot into any other type of mode (safe, etc.), nor can I even get to the DOS mode to run some tests. I am able to get to F12 and do a boot to utility partition and ran tests on the hard drive, etc. and everything passes, that's why I don't think it's my HD, but a virus....Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help, PC is totally not usable!!!! Thanks!
I decide to print something on Microsoft Word, and a message popped up, saying "no printers could be found". I checked "Printers and Faxes" under the control panel, and I noticed that my printer had not appeared. My printer is an HP Photosmart C4580. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, please let me know. Another thing, I noticed on other threads that people had the same problem as me, however they said that they had a message pop up regarding the printer spooler.
Just earlier today I had installed Sp3 for XP. I know it is still in beta testing to I installed at my own risk. I have seen a few connection problems but the one problem I've seen kind of blows me away. After visiting my 'C:Documents and Settings' folder, I discover that there is a new user named 'Tiger'. Should I be alarmed?
My father was the last person to use the computer, i currently running Windows XP. He said that when he shut down the computer he walked away and it was on the screen "Windows now shutting down".He came back 30 mins later and the same screen was still on, so he decided to pull the plug out to turn the computer off.He turned the computer back on the next day and it started up, then stopped, the computer then started back up but with an alarm kind of sound like the computer was locked. You press the restart button and the alarm still keeps going. The only way to turn the PC off is to pull the plug out.
okay I've been trying for the life of me to get my friends mp3 player to download songs onto the player.but for some reason after deleting the files (songs) that was already on there I get a memory error."mp3 explorer md-fd150, the disk media is not reconized, it may not be formatted, please format if you see this message again after connecting."I have no idea what this means because I'm using my Removable disk (H) with the USB cord to the mp3 player.
I haveWin XP Home SP2, and an ESS ES56H-PI Data Fax Modem.Unfortunately, over the week-end I completely screwed up my PC when trying to install a Linux O/S, and had to re-install Win XP - which I have successfully done. I am now re-installing my various applications, and have installed Win XP Fax using the same procedure as I used last November (Faxing in Windows XP by Sharon Crawford). Everything seemed to go OK, but when I try to send a fax I get an error message on the Fax Monitor: 'Fax device error'.
I can't install JAVA on my computer. I get error 1722 from java. I have followed everything on the page regarding how to get around this problem but with no success. The log says (in Swedish):tgrd: patchjre, plats: C:ProgramDelade filerJavaUpdateBase Imagesjre1.6.0.b105patch-jre1.6.0_03.b05patchjre.exe, kommando: -s "C:ProgramJavajre1.6.0_03" (tgrd=action, plats=place, Delade filer=shared files) I really need java! I have tried so many things now and I really hope someone out there can help me.
I have a dell inspiron e1505 running vista that is about one year old. The sound skips every 30 secs or so whenever playing any kind of media. It appears the solution was found on a different forum however I have a problem with their answer and was hoping someone here could clear it up for me as I have had lots of luck here before Here is the thread from the other forum
