Getting Error While Installing Fax Monitor: 'Fax Device Error'?
Aug 29, 2005
I haveWin XP Home SP2, and an ESS ES56H-PI Data Fax Modem.Unfortunately, over the week-end I completely screwed up my PC when trying to install a Linux O/S, and had to re-install Win XP - which I have successfully done. I am now re-installing my various applications, and have installed Win XP Fax using the same procedure as I used last November (Faxing in Windows XP by Sharon Crawford). Everything seemed to go OK, but when I try to send a fax I get an error message on the Fax Monitor: 'Fax device error'.

we installed the Microsoft Fax process on an XP Pro PC. It is setup only to send faxes and works great most of the time. However, every once in awhile, it will stop sending faxes even though there are faxes still showing in the Outbox of the Fax Console and Fax Monitor shows Ready to send. What we do see in the Fax Monitor's more>> window is that the last fax said that the fax did not answer, fax was cancelled after about 5 minutes of sitting there trying and it requeued the fax. It then shows a message of Fax Device Error. There is nothing in the Event Logs showing that there is a device problem. Looking at the Printers and Faxes in the Control Panel show the Fax is Ready.

okay I've been trying for the life of me to get my friends mp3 player to download songs onto the player.but for some reason after deleting the files (songs) that was already on there I get a memory error."mp3 explorer md-fd150, the disk media is not reconized, it may not be formatted, please format if you see this message again after connecting."I have no idea what this means because I'm using my Removable disk (H) with the USB cord to the mp3 player.

I tried to use our volunteer fire company Gateway computer with a flat screen monitor and "Wrong Frequency" came up on the screen. There was a count down of about 15 seconds before the screen went black. There was no "clue" as to what to do during the count down. I had used the computer the day before with no problems. The OS is "2000."

I'm running a Windows XP home SP1 on a Pentium 4 2.79 GHz Toshiba laptop with a CD/DVD burner.A little while ago, I tried opening an audio CD (one purchased from a retailer) and the disc wouldn't read--I double clicked it from My Computer and it notified me of an I/O device error.Recently, I tried burning an audio CD (using Nero), but now blank media isn't being read either, and again, there is an I/O device error.

Here is the situation, I have a Dell 700M Inspiron Laptop running windows XP. I have 2 usb ports and alternate between 3 devices - a usb mouse, my pocket pc cell phone, and a Western Digital Mybook External Hard drive. All of a sudden my USB ports stopped recognizing my devices. It still sends power though because I can still plug in my cell phone to charge it. The problem is that the computer fails to recognize any devices anymore, even my mouse. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and restarted my computer several times, I even tried system restore. It may have to do with the fact that I accidently unplugged my hard drive while it was still running without using safely remove my hardware. I have heard stories of western digital harddrives causing BIOS and motherboard failures.

I am trying to get my usb flash drive to work, and I get this error message. Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer (Code 47). To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again. The only problem is, is that i don't have the device plugged in. I tried uninstalling the device and restarting, but there it is again at the start up. When I plug the device in, the computer will not read it.

I get the following message when I go to device manager and look at my cd rom drive, which has an ! on it."A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"Recommended resolution The start type for this driver is set to disabled in the registry. Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. If the driver is required, and if reinstalling or upgrading does not work, change the start type in the registry using Registry Editor. For more information, see the Registry Reference in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit I have done extensive research on this and all the work arounds that have been suggested do not work for me. The only course of action I feel is possible for me is to edit the registry. I have not been able to find any directions on how to do this short of buying microsoft's "Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit" which is suggested in all my research. This book is Hugely expensive.

I hope somebody can help me, please excuse my lack of pc skills!I am getting BSODs every day, usually 2 or 3 when booting up pc then pc runs fine for rest of the day. BSODs have varied but typically (but not always) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with STOP: 0x0000008E or STOP: 0x0000000A. Also, in Device Manager, Ports, Communications Port (COM2) I have a yellow exclamation mark, Code 10 error.I am not sure if these issues are linked.I know it could be a Ram issue but I have run memtest86 with no errors reported.Besides I am reluctant to replace the Ram or motherboard as I wouldn't really know what I was doing.

Yeah, I know, I've read all the Google results about "open files" and "locking handles" too, but bear with me and keep reading. This is on a WinXP Pro SP3 desktop, current with all critical updates. I have a laptop HDD that I've installed in an external case for USB 2.0 connection to my PC. It connects to the PC as drive letter D:. It works fine backing up my data until it comes time to disconnect it. Then, when I try to Safely Remove Hardware, I get the error msg in the topic title, along with "The device 'Initio 0M9AT00 USB Device' cannot be stopped because a program is still accessing it." So I fire up Unlocker 1.9.0 and it says "No Locking handle found." Then I fire up Process Explorer v12.04 and Search for D: - I get the result "0 matching items." So WinXP thinks some program is still accessing it, but what? I need some other ideas or tools to figure out what is going on. Up to this point, I've just been shutting down all open application programs and pulling the USB cable and one more interesting tidbit - when I connect this same HDD to my Win7 x64 laptop and click on safely remove hardware, Win7 releases the device properly and I can safely remove it.

My friend just installed XP on his computer using the CD and now, ironically, XP doesn't detect the CD-Rom drive on the system. No CD-Rom drive in either Device Manager, Windows Explorer, or My Computer. The Add Hardware Wizard doesn't detect a CD-rom drive either. All the cables are intact as well. What could be wrong or do I need to provide more specific information on his system?

I am getting an error message when attempting to connect my USB cable to my scanner. The error message is Windows could not load the installer for Image. I believe the problem might be with a corrupt file setupapi.log or Windows Image Aquisition. I have two such files and I do not know whether I am supposed to have two or not. Also, I am not sure if I can delete these files and where to get one to replace the two I have deleted.

This type of error means the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from potential data corruption or loss. When I want to install certain programs, there is a set of error messages that makes the installation fail.If I push "ignore" then this message appears:
"c:Windowssystem32autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application." I have a feeling that this is caused by a Norton antivirus program I installed couple years ago that I had a heck of a time removing. Could there be a chance that some parts of the program is still lingering to cause this? I've been having this problem for the longest times and threw away a bunch of software.
