This happens when I watch videos, or do anything that has to do with videos such as windows movie maker or use media player, anyways, I keep getting this page http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response...&SID=10.My question is, how do I find out which device driver is causing the error so I will stop getting to many unexpected restarts/freezes?
View 14 Repliesplease people, bear with me. im sure you have seen a ton of these, but this one isn't like any one i have heard of. i cant figure it out and its driving me up a wall.An interesting thing is that when i run Team Fortress 2 in the background, it doesnt seem to freeze at all. i have 2 GB of RAM, TF2 takes up approx 450mb of RAM. i dont know why my computer would run so well with that much ram being taken up. I tried doing a harddisk error read through windows, but it froze 40% through the scan of the free space (part 5 of 5).i couldn't seem to get a RAM scan to run properly. i tried using the WINDIAG device put out by windows, but none of the commands worked. any other possible ways to scan my memory for errors? I am in a dorm at Ohio State, and i had these same problems last year living in a dorm. they eventually went away, and now that i am back here i am having issues again. except now, i have to restart my comp at least 20 times a day just to get things done. running itunes seems to make it freeze within 5 minutes.

There was an instance of Windows XP installed, and seller asked me to format it before I started using the computer, I agreed and headed home. To test it out I installed Prince of Persia and ran that, everything went smoothly and I was satisfied. I then went out and bought a nice $200 widescreen monitor (the 15" crt wasnt cutting it) and the wireless card as it only had ethernet. Hooked up the new monitor and wireless connected to the internet and started installing WoW. At disk 5 it frooze up and its all gone downhill from there

iam running windows xp....ive been having problems with my pc forever and i can never seem to work out if its bad ram or a memory issue. When I want to install certain programs, there is a set of error messages that makes the installation fail.If I push "ignore" then this message appears:
"c:Windowssystem32autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application." I have a feeling that this is caused by a Norton antivirus program I installed couple years ago that I had a heck of a time removing. Could there be a chance that some parts of the program is still lingering to cause this? I've been having this problem for the longest times and threw away a bunch of software.
I changed the above setting in my device manager hoping to fix an annoying stutter problem caused with media player when my wireless signal would go out of range. I remembered changing the irq settings in win2k to solve conflicts on that system, but found that the options is not available in xp. A quick web search lead to a site which reproduced a knowledge base article from microsoft. Only, the article was truncated in a way such that the dangers of said action were not published. The drive boots up to the XP OS screen, hangs, blue screens, the end.
With my problem drive set up as a slave, is there a way to change the settings back, or manually cut and paste Hkeys, or system folders or the like to restore the drive to it's previous state? Seems logical same computer with the same installation of xp pro sp2

I usually send the error report to Microsoft in hopes that they might offer a fix. I have listed the error report below. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Other than this the computer seems to be working fine.

My computer restarts, now every 10ish minutes. Sometimes before then sometimes not for a couple hours. But it's gotten so bad now. Once my computer has restarted error messages come up saying " a serious error has occured", "windows/explorer/ etc had recovered a serious error" I've ran virus checks through nortan, and adware...everything comes up fine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSometimes I can have the comp on for a couple of days, be playing WoW and HL2 games on it and all sorts of things and it'll suddenly freeze without warning. No hdd light, no error message, just complete freezure (not a real word, I know). Mouse won't move, keyboard is locked out. Sometimes when i restart the comp, it just hangs without even getting to the post screen. Other times i'll restart and everything will boot fine, but a minute or so after windows boots it'll freeze again. The freezing/restarting happen while playing games, right after closing the games, and/or when i'm surfing the web, or even when the comp is idle.

Starting this week, (maybe-- maybe after I downloaded the new security updates) my printer does not print when I command it to. It just freezes, until I restart the computer. When I get the cntl-alt-delete prompt, then the printer kicks in and prints what I commanded. I don't even need to log on.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got xp without sp's. Went to run windows update. It started it's download, I believe installing sp2. About 3/4's of the way through it locked up. The computer was froze. I ctr-alt-del to get task manager but nothing happened. So I waited awhile longer and still nothing. So I rebooted the comp. Now everytime I go to windows update through help & support or through mc's site, even just clicking on the link windows update help at mc's site locks up the computer. I have to end task to get the comp running again. I've searched high and low over the internet for the answer, ran spybot, virus scan, and even reloaded xp. Which when i did that and it asked for registration info i filled it out and sent it and it too locked up the comp.
View 11 Replies View RelatedIt seems as if my new wireless adaptor is causing problems, or the fact that my old one is still showing up in the device manager but it says it cannot be uninstalled because it may be needed to boot the computer. The one I cannot uninstall is 3 isntances of Linksys Wireless-B USB Network Adapter v2.8 Deterministic Network Enhancer Miniport. It is listed 3 times as #2 and #3. I did not have any problems over the summer when I used my computer back home and hooked up to our wired internet rather than the wireless. My computer now keeps freezing and then when I push the reset button and the computer starts up, it goes to the blue screen of death. When that happens I flip the switch in the back of the computer and turn it off and on again and it starts right up, soon to freeze again. Does anyone know what could be going on here?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a USB device (Motorola V3 phone) and when connected it the driver did not install properly (something like there was an error installing the device) and the only option was to close the device wizard (no back option) I tried this on all my USB ports. The problem now is that when I plug the phone into a USB nothing happens at all - it doesn't try and load a new driver and since the driver it installed before didn't work it doesn't use that.How can I remove all trace of the phone from the PC so that it will have another go at installing the driver (I used the CD that came with the phone before, but I have since got it to work on another PC by letting it search the web for a driver).

View 10 Replies View RelatedMy computer has recently been freezing quite a bit. I have re-installed the op sys win2k prof. and it still does this. I have learned to live with the freezing not a big deal i just re-start often. Anyway today it really started acting up. I get to the login screen type in my password and it loads the desktop but before i can click on anything it gives me an error message saying that explorer has caused an error and will be closed and must be re-started, then it says generating error log. At this point i click ok and there is nothing on the desktop and there is no start bar. The only button combo that works is ctrl alt del. I have tried to boot into safe mode and it does the same thing. Today i had just finished installing new updates from microsoft and it froze right after doing this so i just had to do a hard re-start could this have screwed up the op sys??
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was reading a string from 2007 on this site about a similar problem I'm having. My XP computer keeps resetting and after the computer restarts and an error report is sent I get a rather vague web page from Microsoft that a device driver might be at fault.
The string I mentioned reading involved a member here that seemed very knowledgeable and quite helpful, I think it was "The Hound" at any rate in reading the string The Hound recommended setting up the error process, for lack of a better term, to not automatically reboot so the message on the bluescreen could be read. I've done that but the system is stable for now.
Windows XP. I have bought two keyboards, one USB, the other ps/2, but neither has changed a thing as far as eliminating the code 39 message I am getting when I go to device driver. There's also the exclamation point in yellow, that hasn't changed either. Things I have done include uninstalling and reinstalling, but since I can't do anything more than copy and paste, there isn't much I have been able to do as far as msconfig or safe mode. (I've tried to go to diagnostic mode via misconfig but it asks for an administrator password and I have learned passwords can't be copied and pasted).

A few days ago I had to do a system restore, but couldn't go back any farther than the month of July.. At any rate, both drives show up in Device Manager as well as my computer. They both light up, but nothing plays. I have unistalled both of them, windows finds new hardware, but the same error message is still there "windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware, the driver may be corrupted or missing code 39" I have read about going into the registry and I usualy get into alot of trouble with that. What I would like to do is a complete recovery using the hp recovery disks that I made when I got the HP. Windows came pre- installed with no disks other than the ones I created. My question if I do this will I be able to use the disks since nothing is playing in either of these drives? My computer is a Desktop , HP Pavillion model is 220N.
